Right. And by the looks of it, much easier to use than current Qi chargers because you won’t have to carefully position the phone on there.

I DID have my iPhone not charge because it was just slightly off the 'sweet spot'. :-!

My AW3 did that once too. Odd that I swear both of them pinged like they were in the right spot. *shrug*

So max I’m seeing with my Anker wireless charger is currently 6w while on 11.2b3. Started the test with battery at 70%. I’m planning to test the RAVPOWER charger tomorrow sometime.

Can you run the test again with the battery at a lower charge level? The charge rate will drop as the device approaches full charge.

If the battery is lower than 50% you may find that the 6W increases to the 7.5W, if the charger supports it.

Had that happen with the AW before.
And the iPhone can start out in the right place but then a notification comes through and it vibrates just enough to move it off that sweet spot.

Gonna be a while but sure, I can do that. I was going off Apple’s description of fast charge being under 80%, which is why I did my test at 70%.

Tested the RAVPOWER and I can confirm that it does fast charge at 7.5w, but only when using the included QC power adapter. The LED on the charger doesn’t flash green to indicate fast charging like the instructions suggest, it only flashes orange. It doesn’t seem to work with my Anker USB hubs or a 12w iPad charger. I caught a deal 2 days ago that made it $34.

I'm guessing that if I were hook my wireless charging pad to the iPad power brick, it'd max out at 7.5W still, right?

I’m not sure. It did not work at 7.5w with the RAVPower or Anker fast chargers using the 12w iPad power brick.

I did find an amazing Belkin Apple Watch power brick that actually works great. On a recent trip, I took just one charge block, and cable, and depended on this brick to charge both the iPhone and AW3. It does seem that the charging for the USB port only works when there is an AW on the mag-disc, which I find odd and a flaw, but it charged both up a couple of times without going flat. I'll now try to remember to carry that power brick with me in case of sudden realizations that the marvelous technology is about to die. (I just wish it could charge through a Lightening cable)

Now looking at the website, I'm wondering where I can get that short Lightning cable they show.

So I just asked the RavPower tech support about pairing the RAVPower Quick Charge 2 Coils QI Wireless Charging Pad (the one with the upright stand design) with the RAVPower 24W 4.8A (2.4A x 2) Dual USB Wall Charger, and was told it would not provide fast charging at 7.5w. The technical specs seemed to suggest it would have, but I’m sure they have tested it to be sure. Therefore, only their RAVPower iPhone 8 8 Plus X Fast Wireless Chargers QI + QC 3.0 Adapter, gives 7.5w wireless charging. On Amazon, it’s running $49.99 so at least it’s cheaper than the options at the Apple Store. I really like the stand design, so I may still keep it and forgo the faster speed.

Unless the faster wireless charging speed is equivalent to plugging in a genuine Apple Lightening cable, I will stick with my 4 slow speed wireless chargers. The way I look at it, if you are looking for a fast charge, the only option is plugging into an Apple charger.

Yikes! The Belkin fast charger costs $60! I went with a few $10 chargers at Amazon to place them where I need them and couldn't be happier. Charges fast enough for me -- I certainly don't need faster charging speeds. I love the convenience of being able to lay my phone down and instantly charge, and then when you get a call/do something on your phone, just pick it up and go. Nor more fiddling with cables is a great feature on the new iPhone 8.

I could not agree more. I bought three $10 chargers from Walmart and an Anker $18 one from Amazon. They all work great and the same.

I have the mophie wireless charging pad and the times I use it will be at night only so fast charge isn't an issue but be nice to use the fast charge when sitting down in the lounge on my days off then pick it up without worrying about cables.

In the end, if you want faster iPhone charging, just get the Apple 12 watt iPad charger. Only US$20, it's also compatible with the current USB-A to Lightning sync cables you can buy anywhere at reasonable prices. Sure, you could get even faster charging with a USB-C charger and a USB-C to Lightning cable, but you're talking somewhere around US$35 to US$40 for such a combination at minimum.

Or if you already have one of the new USB-C MacBooks, all you need a USB-C to Lightning cable for fastest charge option.

same story for work for myself, but why would you need fast charge for overnight charing? -- just curious on how you are thinking about this. I have the USB-C chargers from the Macbook, and wondering if it is worth buying the usb-c cable (it bugs me that I have over 10 regular usb - lightning everywhere and I dont want to start switching them).
The only scenario in my mind is when you need power fast as you are running out of time.

yeah thats what I thought. I wonder if I carve my desk at work, if anyone would notice

Ever see the iPad actually get negative charge rate with the normal charger? Your steaming video while it is plugged in and it is still not making headway.

Can someone recommend an adapter for me - so many of these chargers do not come with one or the company doesn't offer an option to buy one with it. HELP!

Were you able to repeat this test on the Anker with a lower starting charge level on the iPhone? And is this one you are testing? (https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Wireless-Charging-Provides-Fast-Charging/dp/B01KJL4XNY)

BTW thanks for doing this!
Wow...that's listed for over $100 Canadian.... What the heck?

yeah that happens as there is not enough power in the normal charger. Happens even on the MacBook if i use a smaller charger for convenience.

I currently have this Qi charger that supports 7.5W output.

I have it plugged into the back of my LG monitor via a USB 3.0 port. Does anyone know if I'm getting the full 7.5W output or do I need some higher wattage wall adapter instead?

So now that 11.2 is officially released, we can all get USB power meters like omegis83 did and let's start collecting some data!

Here is the one I ordered: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01D9Y6ZFW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I purchased chargers from Pleson and Seneo that claim to support fast charging. I also briefly had the Mophie which I returned because it was too fickle in terms of placement and working with an Apple case.

I'm curious to determine the various charge outputs for these when using Apple 10W/12W adapters in addition to connecting directly to a MacBook. I'll post my results when I receive the meter.
