I was told once that microwave does destroy electronics! But I guess that is a myth.........

Can I ask, what is it with the racing to charge it as fast as possible? Don't most people charge their devices overnight?
are you serious?
obviously it's way more convenient and much less restricting..
you can't generalise the way people live their lives and charge their devices.
depending on your usage and phone model, having watch synced, using AirPods/bluetooth..charging is required during the day..it's not like everyone is living a routine 2 dimensional boring life all the time you now..

I have no interest in wireless charging unless it's 15W.
why is it that others can do 15W and Apple is still stuck at dead-slow speeds of 5w / 7.5w?

Some companies take a safety-first approach.
And some companies are okay with pushing their luck, and risking exploding batteries and washing machines.

I plan on putting the strongest case possible on the X. Will inductive charging work through something like that? Say, an Otterbox or Speck?

Probably yes. It depends on the charger. The ones I use work with Otterbox cases.

Those of us with vision disabilities simply wish the they would re-add the ability to add Night Shift as a Control Center option. Night Shift is great--except when I take photos I need to briefly turn it off. Now it's a complicated to work one's way through the Settings submenu to turn it off and on. Fine if it's not a default setting but don't understand why it can't be an option of those of us with vision issues.

You can access it by hard pressing on the brightness in the CC. this will give you a quick toggle to night shift

So Apple releases a new fast charge and wireless charging feature, but neither the charger or cable required is included?! Haha, how does anyone applaud this??
I don't think Apple needs to provide all the accessories that the phone supports. They are supposed to provide the minimal accessories that will keep the product functional.

Is 46% to 60% vs. 46% to 66% really that big of a jump? I get through the day and put my phone on my $12 Anker Qi charger and it's at 100% in the morning. I guess what would be more real world for me is to see something like how long it takes to go from 5% battery to 50% using a 5 watt vs. a 7.5 watt charger. Maybe I'm misreading but a 6% difference doesn't seem that groundbreaking to me.

The extra 6% is actually about a 42% greater jump in battery life (20 vs 14). But I agree, a better real-world situation is the time from 5% to 50%. We want to know how long charging takes, not that we can get an extra 6% of battery in 30min.

What's the point of wireless charging if it requires additional hardware, charges at half the speed of a conventional charger, and still requires you to place your phone in a specific location like a normal cable?

Someone sell me on this.
What was the point of Marty McFlys power laces since i never untie my sneakers just slip them on and off. It’s cool technology bruh.

Whoops. The regular Samsung QI charger is 10W. 5V @ 2.0 A. The Fast Charger version of the Samsung Qi Charger is 15W, 9V @ 1.67 A.

I just so happen to have both. I just assumed the Fast Charger was 10W and the other was 5W
I have the fast charger also- what was available at local mac reseller. It charges fast even on 11.1

You can get 5 watt Qi chargers on AliExpress for under $2 and they work great. I got a bunch of them and put them all over the house. I got 6 of them for the price of the “cheap” Anker one.

I set my phone on the nightstand every night to charge. I don't care how long it takes, as long as it is charged by the time I get up. It would be nice to not have to pug it in, unplug it in the morning, and trip over the cord when getting up in the dark, sending my phone flying off the nightstand. Is it worth $60? For me, yes.

Very true, if you don’t mind going for a “no name”. I was given a 10W one a few months ago by the manufacturer to test out, it’s a lovely thing, solid wood, works great, no issues whatsoever and they are one of those companies you’ve never heard of and probably can’t pronounce :D

If I’m honest I would normally steer clear, purely from a customer support/reliability perspective.

But some of the support I’ve received from almost unknown Chinese companies over the past year or so, for my 3D printers, lasers and the odd bit of this and that has been phenomenal. Including them sending expensive replacement parts for free along with free 24 hour shipping.
Far better than I’ve received from some multinational *cough, Samsung* *cough, Lenovo* companies in the past.

So I’m more inclined to give some of them a go. Albeit if it’s something that could go badly wrong and cause fire or something I stick to the more we’ll known brands. But that’s hardly an issue with a 5V charger.

Plus you can't pick up your phone while it charges.

I saw a bunch of posts on page 7 referencing Qualcomm's Quick Charge spec.

Unless I'm mistaken, QC has absolutely nothing to do with the QI wireless charging standards. And further, the iPhone 8's and X support the USB-PD (Power Delivery) spec, not Qualcomm's Quick Charge.

Yeah... I'm usually on-board with new features from Apple. But this is making little sense to me. Extra cost, extra charging time, little benefit. Not really wireless.
Wireless charging is the best new feature for me. Over half the iphone users that I know hate lightning cables. They break all the time. The port on the phone is always clogging with lint and needs to be cleaned out to be able to function again. Besides, who wants to fumble with them in the dark. From my perspective, it's a great improvement.

some wireless charger are using Qualcomm's QuickCharge to provide enough voltage and current to make sure it's powerful enough for the wireless module.
Probably more simple to do instead of putting electronic that will use the 5v 2.4a and push it to 9 or more volts to feed the wireless module.

Well, if you're happy with paying even more to unlock your phone's features then, yes. And if your logic was true, than why do they include a headphone jack adapter?

I’m using the Samsung wireless fast charger. Got it free when I pre ordered my note 8 that I returned a few days later. 2 weeks after returning it, my Samsung gifts showed up. Works great on my 8 Plus

What he said.

When I’m working, I have a wireless charging stand next to my monitor so I can see any notifications while charging. I would never use charging stands previously because the lightning connector mount was a bad accident waiting to happen.

I also have a wireless pad next to my couch on my side table. When I’m playing games or watching TV, my phone is sitting next to me charging.

Lastly I have a car mount / wireless charger. Get in my car, drop it in, and start driving. It’s brilliant.

I end up charging my phone more frequently because there’s no added effort. While a wired charger is faster, the zero effort system I’m using keeps my phone topped out throughout the day.

Absolutely love wireless charging. Best new iPhone feature in a long time for me.

What wireless charger are you using in your car? I can't seem to find one with reliable reviews!
