"At 7.5 watts, Apple's wireless iPhones do not support the same wireless charging speeds that are available on some other Qi-based smartphones"

I guess there is a reason for that?

While wireless would be faster than the supplied adapter, would the iPad changer be faster ?

I have the RAVpower 7.5w charger and it doesn’t seem to be charging at the faster speed(the LED is still orange, indicating normal charging speed)

Has anyone else been able to test it?

''still requires you to place your phone in a specific location'' UNLIKE a cable which you can move the phone around. With the current technology, inductive charging is %100 useless and most definitely not wireless.
Not this again. Inductive wireless charging requires no cable between the device that transmits the power and the phone. Same as the elusive—and some say physics-defying—longer distance charging that always seems to be just a year away from being released. (Obviously, whatever device is transmitting the energy has to plug into a power source.)

With wireless charging, you only have to touch a cable one time—when you plug in the new mat, tray, desk or other Qi charger you just bought. Plug it in once, on day one, and you never have to touch a another cable.

If you’ve got an Apple Watch, AirPods (new wireless charging case available soon) and an iPhone 8/8 Plus/X, buy Apple’s mat, it’ll charge all three at once. Place them on the mat before you go to bed. It’s easy, you can do it with one hand, and you’ve saved yourself the hassle of plugging in your devices a couple thousand times, just within the first few years.

Is the price worth the convenience? You decide! It is nice never having to deal with any cables again. No more digging lint out of your Lightning port or replacing failed or frayed cables, either :)

I am so confused about the current quick charge standards in iPhones. I hear people say a 29W charger actually charges at a 15W max with the 2017 iPhones? Then I hear that a 24W charger can charge at the same speed the 29W does (Anker one, will link below). Then I see a graph comparing 29W + USB Type C power delivery combo vs 5W, 12W, and 29W chargers. Which is it?

What difference does it make to the longevity of the iPhone battery (not as in how many hours it will last but how many charge cycles it will last until needing to be replaced) by charging it faster? Doesn't slowly charging batteries extend their life compared to fast charging?

Yep, slow charging is always better. Less heat

I have the 29 watt USB-C charger with a lightning cable. I plan to charge my iPhone X overnight using this and I'll get a Qi-based wireless charger for use at work, just to top off when I'm at my desk. My iPhone 7 Plus has been in a Trianium battery case since I got it. I charge overnight and it is good all day no matter how much usage. I'd rather not have to resort to dimming screen and turning off services.
If you only charge overnight (like most people) just use the included 5W charger, since it doesn’t matter if it takes 1 hour or 3 hours to fully charge. It’ll be at 100% hours before you wake up :)

Actually after responding to higgalls I realized that no one has mentioned fast charging via lightening cable. Is that going to happen? I charge my S7Edge both ways and it stays way cooler using the cable. Just a thought here. And I have an 8+.

I actually prefer the slower charge for when I charge overnight... I think it's better for the battery not to mention it's safer.

That said if I need a quick charge, I will find myself using my 87W MacBook Pro charger. So versatile :)

I tried on my Spigen F303w charger that is supposed to support fast charge with a qc3 wall plug. Still showing a blue light vs the red it should be when fast charging. Not sure about this thing though. I’m sending it back because it has all kinds of funny issues with the X.

I still think that the other shoe has yet to drop. AirPower, if it lives up to its name, will probably allow for some distance to power devices over the air. The physics of resonant charging allows for this. It’s just that nobody has yet perfected it so that it’s efficient in a commercially available product.

If it works over the air, it doesn’t matter that it’s not fast. Your iPhone will be constantly sipping power so that it never drops to the point where you need to charge it fast.

So it's looking like Apple may be restricting the 7.5W charge rate to their approved devices only.

I ended up buying the Mophie charging pad last night so I know that will be 100% compatible.

It'll work fine but won't draw 29 Watts. The iPhone 6S will draw 12 Watts max. The AirPods will just draw whatever they need but not anymore so won't damage them.

For the iPad, it depends on which model you have. Some can draw 29 Watts. Others will be 12.

Thanks, i think my ipad air might not support drawing 29watts, of no use then. I'll stick with 12watts.

The Air Power mat is not shipping until next year and it will charge the AirPods Apple Watch and iPhone. That will be much better than the regular QI chargers IMO.

And much bigger according to what I've heard. o_O

I got the Belkin pad with the 8+ when I pre-ordered. It works quite well actually.

I perfer fast charging through cable, it takes alot less time to charge (upto 50% in half an hour)

Me too. I use the same fast-charge set-up I have for my iPad Pro 10½...28W USB-C Power Adapter and USB-C to Lightning cable. Makes fast work of charging both.

What wireless charger are you using in your car? I can't seem to find one with reliable reviews!
I love the design of the actual mount. Comes with both vent and dash clips.

The wireless function isn’t perfect. Occasionally it will disconnect and reconnect the charge while driving. It does charge slowly when connected to GPS, and will go up a little faster when just steaming Bluetooth.

I got a mophie for my wife and I for our bedside chargers ... I felt best to stay standard for home use and thought the mophie requires less “sweet spot” searching. I have the Rav charger for my desk at work which is a great travel unit as well ... all work great to keep me topped off. I love checking something on my phone or snoozing my alarm and just putting back ... yes you could do with with a cord but you need a longer cord and sometimes you want to show your significant other something so you have to unplug (this happens more than you think) then reach down and find the plug again (I have watch, iPad, etc plugged in there too ...) ... just a pain ... I love the wireless charging.

Best use case for wireless charging for me at least is in the car - magnetic + wireless charger means I just plonk the phone against the charger and it sticks in place and is charging at the same time. Can turn portrait to landscape super easily too. When I get out the car it's just grab and go. Had the iPhone 7 version and loved it.

Requires a Nillkin case to ensure you have strong magnetic surface while allowing clearance for the inductive coils to work but their cases are pretty good and not too pricey:-

Right. And by the looks of it, much easier to use than current Qi chargers because you won’t have to carefully position the phone on there.
