Don't need FaceID as much as multi-user support on iPads. I also worry that the loss of home button will make the iPads unusable by children. The home button allows my children to always get back to home base and correct problems. Gestures are not intuitive in the same way.

Also defacing a supposed work machine with that notch is a bad idea. My laptop doesn't need a notch for a camera or anything else. If Apple wants me to do work on an iPad - no notch please.

Its already came out that they're trying to reduce/eliminate face ID notch. It'll be hidden/gone next generation(s) if not this one. So there is ZERO reason to buy a device with a notch.

iPad with FaceID is a natural progression, but isn’t an iPad more often a multi-user device? This is where TouchID is handy for having multiple people’s fingerprints verified.

If you're using TouchID to store multiple person's fingerprints you're doing it wrong. Craig Federighi said TouchID was designed to be used for multiple fingers on one user, not to allow for multiple different users. It is an unsupported workaround.

No reason FaceID couldn't be programmed to recognize multiple users though, it is just Apple's decision to limit it to a single person for now.

Maybe you should make your own mock-up in the future. There is no need for a notch on the new iPad Pros due to the thicker bezel. The idea that Apple will keep the notch for consistency is nonsensical, and having a notch would defeat part of the iPads ‘magic’ which is its ability to be used in any orientation. That’s not to say it won’t happen, but it isn’t necessary and I would call it unlikely.

I don't know. I think I'd rather have more screen with a notch than less screen without the notch.

So your logic is to not buy anything new now and just wait for when we have no notch in 3 years?

That was not Apple's intention.

Looks like a logical progression for a new iPad revision.... Personally though? I've lost a lot of interest in the iPad. I have a 9.7" iPad Pro and it's a good device -- but not one I feel any need to update regularly. I typically use it only when riding on the train, commuting, which I don't find myself doing as often as I used to. Even then? I was mainly using it to read news sites and the online version of our local paper, to listen to music via linked Bluetooth headphones, or to check email or do light web surfing. The Apple Pencil enables a few neat "tricks" like letting people sign electronic documents saved on the iPad as PDF files, or signing for credit card payments with Square more easily. But that's stuff I only rarely have a need for.

I'll probably just keep on using it until it breaks or gets so outdated, it can't run the apps I want to use anymore. No matter what Apple tries to say about the iPad, it's still really just an iPhone with a big display and no cellular phone chipset inside it. Apps for iOS don't get me as far as OS X apps do.

Ah yes, now this is what I am looking forward to. I cannot wait for the iPad X revision. Keep the notch as well.
I know you’re enthusiastic about the iPhone X, but dayummm! ;)

For me, I’m thinking: This is a tablet, not a phone. There’s a bit of a difference in how we grip them and position them for use. I admit to having a hard time seeing myself comfortable with an iPad that looks somewhat like a larger version of the X. I definitely would not want the notch on a tablet. I’d want a nice even rectangle.

I’m not entirely sure Face ID would always be the most convenient method to unlock a tablet, in all circumstances so I’m hoping there will be enough room to keep Touch ID in there, too, though I’m not holding my breath.

Gesture based interactions would be good for most of us, but looking at how my in-laws use their iPads, I do still think they could cause difficulties for the elderly and young people with problems with manual dexterity, so I hope there are accessibility settings to help.

Oh well, Apple is clearly on a path with a commitment to a particular vision and won’t be taking my input, so my opinions are all moot. It’s fun to discuss, though.

I hope my Mini 4 lasts me a good number of years more. I have a 9.5” IPad Pro but still find it too large and unwieldy for most of my uses. I stick to it for art.

iPad won't have a notch. You heard it here first.

No one needs a notch when they can fit the sensors just fine...

That is just to show its 'cool-factor.'

Who really controls the screen from the top all the time anyway, apart from those time u need to access Notification center to give a valid point "The notch gets in the way"

I’m sure this is coming. I don’t think it’ll look like the render though. I suspect it will have the bezel of the 10.5 all the way around. That leaves enough room for the sensors such that there will be no notch. Y’all can quote me on that; I’m that confident.

Sorry, Baymowe. You were already second...by one comment. ;)
