I know they’re just mockups but so. much. glass.

Hopefully just slimmer bezels (top/bottom) since the Pro already has smaller side bezels. Otherwise, edge-to-edge is gonna be SO pricey (even if LCD only). But I’m here for iPad Face ID!! (even with a notch) Find myself sometimes waiting for my iPad to unlock by looking at it . iPX has definitely spoiled me lol

How are you supposed to hold an iPad that looks like one in the mock-up? You can't hold an iPad like a phone with your fingers wrapped around the sides.

With your grip touching the screen. The iPad has had software detection of your grip for about 5 years now, and ignores unintentional screen touching in that area.

Like others have said, that mock up is idiotic. You need a small bezel to hold it with two hands, especially in landscape mode.

FaceID is a sure bet as well as a very, very powerful processor and GPU. This may be the first model Apple markets as a full computer replacement.
What’s a computer?

Serious question, i love my home button, touch ID or Not on my ipad pro 12.9. Anyone with an X now use to the face there is no more home button? How was the adjustment to it? I am using a note 8 now but have an Iphone 8 as well, i picked it over the X because my hands on with it was not to impressive. Plus the crappy intel modem is horrible and the Note 8 gets service where the 8 cant. Anyhow Apple has the tablet market cornered. Just not sure if i can see ridding the home button in favor of gestures.

Took me about a day or so to not press for the home button. Now I find myself trying to use the gestures on my iPad.

"The Modern iPad", has a ring to it. It's the new "The New iPad" (iPad 3). Just wait and see, the older models will be retroactively called "iPad_Obsolete" in code.

I hope there is an OLED iPad in 2018

Highly doubtful. Especially given the constraints and yields with OLED panels, I don't think there is a manufacture that could meet Apples expectations with the quantity they would need for the iPad given the different sizes offered for various Pro models.

LOL !!! Apple running out of ideas as usual.. If it is as buggy as my iPhone X then I'll pass. Come on .. 10 years later you don't know what to do to the iPad or iPhone anymore.
How is your iPhone X buggy?

Same here. I have a couple of iPads in the house and I am trying gestures all they time to no effect. Same thing with the lack of Face ID, I now find Touch ID a chore. The 12.9 needs to get slimmer/lighter too.

As someone that is firmly in the notch-hating group, I hope this doesn't happen to the iPad too. Leave a bit of bezel at the top for the sensors to hide.

I agree... about both the notch-hating (I also think the rounded corners are an awful idea) and leaving a bezel. A little bezel is not a bad thing, particularly for on the "forehead" and "chin" for holding in landscape comfortably.

Just last night I was playing World of Tanks on an iPad and remember being thankful there was a bezel to rest my thumb on that did't trigger a touch on the screen and gave my thumb a rest.

Notch doesn't bother me. What bothers me is the camera placement. I wish it was moved to the portrait side instead of the landscape top. More like a laptop. For me, that would make the camera angle so much better for FT and Live videos. Especially since Apple is promoting the ASK which promotes landscape usage. The current camera position makes it very weird to make eye contact with the person your talking/teaching with.

I don't know. I think I'd rather have more screen with a notch than less screen without the notch.
On a phone maybe, but definitely not on a tablet. But that's beside the point, I am not saying that they don't need to because they can have a thicker bezel and less screen, I am saying they don't need to because it will fit within the slimmer 7mm thick bezels found on 2 sides of the 10.5" iPad Pro and expected to be on all sides with the new iPad Pros.

Cool story brah? What you gonna do when all phones have a notch?

I dream about sex with hot chicks. You dream about iPads. Hmmmm.

Maybe, your dream is already their reality. :p

I’d be happy if they just came out with a new chipset in the Pros before the phone.

Being half a generation behind the phone is insulting when my iPad was almost $1200.

All I'm going to say is - if they plan on doing FaceID for an iPad then it better work in both portrait and landscape.

I’m lucky enough to own the iPhone X which I love and a fabulous LG OLED TV and have been totally spoiled by OLED displays now!

I almost find it unbearable to use my iPad Pro now; the screen looks like a washed out mess compared to OLED, and the iPads LCD screen is one of the best around !

I couldn’t care less about a notch, FaceID or any other foibles; just give me an OLED iPad please!

I hope it can read face while flat on table. This will make awesome use case for note taking with Apple Pencil.

What I really want is a real os, modern apps, no bugs which break workflow, and a keyboard case which charges and carries Apple Pencil. Hell, just carries the pencil will be fine.

Just wait until you can only unlock it in portrait orientation.

And this is exactly my concern, along with the angle use of FaceID. I read in bed sometimes and I use my iPad in landscape mode always unless restricted by limitation of an app.

So your logic is to not buy anything new now and just wait for when we have no notch in 3 years?

I agree that is poor logic, which is why I bought the X. Contrary to the beliefs of all those who delight in saying that the only people who complain about the notch cannot possibly own an X, well, they are plain wrong. I am one example that disproves such an absurd statement.

I live with the notch, as my iPhone needed replacing and I liked the rest of the X, but make no mistake, notch lovers; it will go at some stage, I am quite sure. It is a bodge until technology improves enough to ditch it, plain and simple. But I do laugh at the people saying it is a deliberate design statement to show the device is an Apple etc. It is not. It is an unsatisfactory bodge. There is no way Sir Jonny would have allowed it if he had been in any position to avoid having it.

LOL People has been complaining about the size of the bezels for a decade and Apple does something about it and now everyone wants them back.

Sure, once technology allows for it, it will go. Doesn't make the X any less of a phone today because of it. I don't even notice it.
