iPad has never been touted Apple has a multi-user device, otherwise we would have such features in software by now.
Who cares how Apple "touts" it? Thats how the majority of people use it. I'm going to use the devices I paid for the way I want to use it.

I hope it doesn't have a fugly notch or I'm sticking with the 10.5" pro indefinitely.

While I don’t mind the notch on my X at all, to be honest I like it.

Once a version comes out without a notch lets see how many of these notch lovers will opt for it when they have the choice. I'm willing to bet zero.

I've been thinking about updating my iPad Air 2. Perhaps this is the one.
I've been thinking about updating my iPad 2 ... LOL ... perhaps this is the one.
Although these days I mainly use iPad Mini for everything.
If Apple released an iPad Mini in the rumored form factor then I will definitely be getting one.

I'd just like an updated iPad Mini.
Me too! If they release an updated Mini in this form factor (minus the notch) then I'll be queuing up and throwing my money at them. :D

Tim made it very clear that this is the future. I am ok with anything if it still has fingerprint or at least number pad lock. I am not into the face recognition thing. They can keep it if they want but maybe they can also keep the fingerprint also

As someone that is firmly in the notch-hating group, I hope this doesn't happen to the iPad too. Leave a bit of bezel at the top for the sensors to hide.
As someone in the hood ornament-hating group, I hope Rolls-Royce, Jaguar and Mercedes don't have them on their next cars. [/sarcasm]

I can assure you that's certainly not how 'the majority' of people use it.

How are you supposed to hold an iPad that looks like one in the mock-up? You can't hold an iPad like a phone with your fingers wrapped around the sides.

Dead easy. I do never put my palm on iPad's display. The thing is, when I use the iPad I am either on my sofa, bed, desk, table etc. Most occasions I use the magnetic flip cover. iPad is used quite differently then the iPhone which you normally have to have it on your had all time. I am quite looking forward to bezzeless display iPad. Larger display, smaller form factor. Awesome!

"The Modern iPad", has a ring to it. It's the new "The New iPad" (iPad 3). Just wait and see, the older models will be retroactively called "iPad_Obsolete" in code.
If only Apple could afford a 9-year old apprentice to implement a futureproof naming strategy
(without disturbing Phil, who's playing with his TouchBar...)

Yes please. Even if it has a notch, it will be such a small part of the screen, you wont notice it after a while.
Unless you're, you know, using it for things its made for, like watching videos and looking at photos and it physically gets in the way.

The notch will inevitably shrink over time, such is the nature of technological progression. When they reduce it to the point that it doesn’t eat into screen space, you’re right, no one will complain. Why would they.

Until that happens, I’m perfectly happy for them to continue with the notch design. I’d rather that than them taking the easy route and put a pointless black bar across otherwise useable space.

You just proved my point that people "liking" the notch is just an excuse. If they had two options, one with and one without a notch, they would pick no notch. They don't like it, they've just accepted it because its what Apple tells them is likable. The rest of us will pass on having black cut outs in our photos and videos to gain a spacer for the time and battery.

No, not really I’m afraid. There is a difference. What I said was that eventually the technology will be shrunk to the point where it doesn’t occupy screen space. Therefore, there is no choice, there will just be one design.

In the meantime however, I personally do like the notch. Or rather more accurately, I don’t like the notch itself, I like what it makes available. That being a little extra screen real estate for indicators.

We all have our preferences, if you’d rather a black bar across the top of your phone that does literally nothing. Then that’s ok, buy an iPhone 8.
If you’re open eyed enough to notice that the notch doesn’t eat into the screen. It actually provides a little extra screen either side of it. Buy an X.

There’s your choice you speak of, thankfully we have it while we wait out the few years it’ll take them to shrink down the tech.

It's been brought up in this thread a few times, but my bigger nuisance is around the multiple user topic. YES I understand it was never Apple's intent for people to store more than 1 user's fingerprint and YES I know you can always opt to use the passcode etc. but the reality is some people like enabling multiple users.

My wife and I store one of each other's finger prints on our respective phones. Again this is strictly for convenience as we know each other's passcodes as well. I'm sure this post will be met with the above arguments or comments about how we shouldn't be on each other's phones etc. but we have no issue. Often time we have to access each other's phones (i.e. when one of us might be driving). However even apart from the multiple users on the phone, I think this would be a bigger nuisance on our iPad.

We share a single iPad in our household. We are not power users, but use it for basic things like browsing the net, responding to emails etc. We keep it on our coffee table and both freely use it as needed. Again I am preempting the arguments about not using it as intended or to use the passcode etc. I get that. Again speaking purely from a convenience and universal user experience perspective, it would be a nuisance if multiple users could not be supported. Just my thoughts given our use case.

Three Monsoon+ cores, gonna be a monster. It's timely that Intel is now shipping quad core ULVs, otherwise it would have brutalized ultrabooks, and it's definitely going to brutalize Core M still with two cores.

I totally agree with you. Its unfortunate that people blindly defend every single decision Apple makes even if it impedes on the way they use devices they've paid for.

I think the notch looks cool, I'm so sick of people complaining over a non-issue.

Notch lovers heaven, now with landscape unlock...

All these reactions are an example of the situation that apple is in:
-please change the designs of idevices, they are getting boring, etc.

But after:
-oh , no ...they changed the design and came up with things that i have to get used too again.

Or: i am getting bored, but don’ t change anything, i just like to complain.

Or: great, new designs and other changes, cool! New!

I hope apple keeps changing things/designs and move forward, and have a cheaper alternative for people that don’ t want these changes (yet).

And that is just what apple is doing now.
So....

If you don’ t want the notch, get an iphone 8/+, instead of an iphone x if you want a new iphone .
If you don’ t want the “modern” ipad, get the regular ipad or the 10.5 /12.9 inch ipad for a cheaper price.

Can we start a trend for #deathtonotch? Let's make it loud and clear to Apple.

So it would have been allright for you if apple made the iphone x with a black bezel on top? You would get less viewing area/smaller screen if they did that. If i had too choose, i would go for the notch.
