Yep, just like they used to! Was a great way of knowing the battery needed replacement.

Yup. Ultimately they were trying to do the right thing and prolong the life of people's phones, but they should have been more transparent. I feel like what they did to rectify the situation is enough and people should move on.

Haha right, crippled in a few months. You guys crack me up. Batteries go bad. If you happen to have a battery that has gone bad, either replace it or throttle your phone so it can last longer. Stop crying like Apple owes you something.

I am not sure if it's funny or just pathetic and sad how far the MUST...DEFEND...Apple crowd will blindly defend Apple. Yes a choice between a throttled noticeably slowed down phone and a phone that randomly shut down is crippled, sorry if that fact hurts kool-aid drinking cultists.

Apple did not announce in the update notes they were going to throttle phones and they hid it as long as they could until they were busted. Updates take months and months to work on so this design flaw must have been known for a very long time.

Keep defending Apple and we will continue to laugh at you.

Any idea why they hid it for so long and didn't announce it in the update notes when they first started throttling phones?

Wait, you’d rather Apple delay updates that patch security exploits in favor of a feature?

Wait you really don't understand the point that Apple can rush out a fix for a jailbreak exploit but will take months and months to turn off a "feature" that crippled a badly designed phone?

There's nothing to defend. Adults in this forum understand that Apple is a business and they made a business decision. Was it right? No, they should have been transparent about it. Were they trying to do the right thing ultimately? Yes, they wanted to prolong the life of phones with bad batteries. They issued an apology and a fix, time to move on. It's pathetic that people keep crying about it like Apple somehow still owes them more for their screw up. Just take your battery and move on, it's a phone.

Ridiculous.

"crippled in a few months"

Outright lie. Why do you have to fabricate things to try and make a point? The issue isn't people defending Apple, it's people coming up with lies like this to try and make Apple look bad without any proof or evidence whatsoever.

Sorry the truth hurts cultists and kool aid drinkers so much but it's a fact. A choice between a phone that shut down or a phone that is noticeably slower is a crippled phone.

You should replace "adults" with blinded kool-aid drinking cultists and You can't change the fact that Apple hid this "feature" for as long as they could while continuing to sell phones they knew had a major flaw. Not to mention the fact that for a very long time they refused to allow battery replacements for phones they knew were being throttled.

Oh and no one is crying, I am laughing how badly cultists are falling over each other defending the indefensible.

Your overuse of the word "Kool-aid" makes your posts unreadable.

And after you turn it off and your phones shuts down completely, post your scores then
That's if Apple making the claim that your phone will randomly shut off is in fact a factual claim and not a bunch of nonsense to hide the fact that they're simply just throttling phones. I guess we'll see in 11.3.

The only reason they are doing this is for PR and they got caught. If no one brought this issue up they wouldn’t be pushing an update

True. So it's good people over the internet are complaining, plus don't forget the lawsuits.

People also complain a lot about the pricing of many Apple products, but apparently those things fall of deaf ears at Apple.

People have always been mad that Apple gives very few options to customize their phones. People are mad that Apple implements options to speed up their phones, even if it's at the sake of battery life. Geez people what do you want? How could this be a bad thing?

Finally. I've been waiting to have a feature that causes my phone to randomly shutdown while I'm in the middle of something.
A feature that finally let's you know if your battery needs to be replaced which is by the way before, we thought our phone is just old and need to purchase a new one. This feature probably will not gonna happen until the issue has been brought up so please continue to be ungrateful and be a blind apple apologist.

Wow, this is huge. Seems like Apple really listens. It's good they are giving people this choice.
I doubt Apple really wanted to provide this 'feature', but they had little choice after the brouhaha..... Moreover Apple most likely anticipates very few people, if any, will continue to use it after experiencing their first unexpected battery-related shutdown.

People want a phone that actually works as advertised and and a phone that can do what the paid for. How many people would have bought a phone if they where told it would be crippled in a few months. Anyone defending Apple on this issue should be ashamed of their blind loyalty.
These phone did not cripple in a few months. Please educated yourself on the topic before commenting.

I'll take a phone that "just works" as advertised and does what I paid for, thanks.

Which is what the power management features do, ensure that it just works, even when the battery would normally cause it to not quite just work.

I don't know what kind of phones you're buying, but when I buy one, I expect it not to crash.

No it doesn't, just more lies without proof. I have numerous devices that ARE NOT throttled, and have posted the benchmarks for them as proof. How is this possible? Did I get magical batteries that somehow don't degrade over time?

What is this threshold that causes throttling? I'll be eagerly awaiting you to provide us with a number, since you obviously know more than the rest of us (maybe you're an engineer at Apple?).

Stating the truth without a citation is not the same thing as a lie even if it doesn't fit your view of the world...

But here you go: https://www.anandtech.com/show/12184/apple-confirms-cpu-limitation-in-ageing-devices

If you don't believe anyone but Apple you can get the same information without the technical explanation from Apple's official press releases on the matter.

Apple has thus far only confirmed that this impacts iphone 6, 6S, SE, & 7. Apple has not confirmed or denied the impact on the plus models of those phones (which could avoid it due to a larger battery) or the 8 and X.

Are your "many devices" one of those? How many times have you recharged them? It is the power 'cycling' that wears out the battery. Use your phone a lot and therefore recharge more often will wear out your battery faster than if you can -for instance- go two days before recharging.

Apple has not specified what the battery wear threshold for throttling is, just that there is one (again in an official press release). Once Apple releases the diagnostic this should be come clear and may vary between models.

I only know more than "the rest of us" that didn't read Apple's press releases on the matter and/or any of the technical articles discussing the issue. As Twain is credited as saying: The man who won’t read has no advantage over one who can’t.

It's a shame that Apple is not improving battery tech for newer iPhones which demand more power. Apple should use new tech batteries which would degrade less after few years.
