Let me give you some advice then...don't go outside. A little known secret is...there are camera's everywhere!

Oh, and stay off the internet, also. And use only over-the-air for television as "they" track what you watch. ;)

Public space has nothing to do with my private device. And I am well aware what is and isn't tracked. Apple also tries to limit that...

Take off the tinfoil hat. The government doesn't care about you. They don't care what's on your phone. You're a nobody as far as they're concerned. Unless you're trading child porn, selling secrets, committing acts of terrorism, or other crimes, they don't care.

But you'd rather let all pedophiles run free and abuse children. You sound like a great human.
I’m going to push back here. Agencies such as the FBI have been documented as *running* child porn sites to “trap” visitors...in the same way nearly every high profile “terrorist” plan they “interrupted” in the last ten years have been THE FBI finding people to coax into committing the plan THEY setup.

These agencies can’t be trusted outright, that’s a fools errand.

Guide to iOS estimated passcode cracking times (assumes random decimal passcode + an exploit that breaks SEP throttling):

4 digits: ~13min worst (~6.5avg)
6 digits: ~22.2hrs worst (~11.1avg)
8 digits: ~92.5days worst (~46avg)
10 digits: ~9259days worst (~4629avg)

A six digit passcode (numbers) can be cracked by the GrayKey device (Cracker?) in 11-22 hours. Plenty of time for them to get into the phone (they've now got 7 days with iOS 11.4).

But an 8 digit passcode can't be cracked in under 46 days, so the Cracker won't be able to get in.

An eight digit passcode is easy enough to remember--- BUT if you want to use 8 digits, you've got to choose the "alphanumeric password" option in settings. This will unfortunately default to the keyboard on password entry which is a royal pain because the keyboard keys are so small.

Apple now needs to let us use the normal big button passcode keypad for more than 6 digit passcodes. Then we'll be set.

Don't go online either. MacRumors and nearly every other site use Google Analytics, which means everything you're doing is being recorded. What pages you visit, what links you click, how long you're on each page, and much more. All recorded to a nice tidy profile about everything you're doing. And then you use Google Maps to get directions and the GPS functionality so they know where you went and when.

Yes, I had actually added that to my post seconds after I posted it! :)

Asking people to try to get in there within 7 days isn't always realistic or feasible.

I don't think you understand this feature very well. A user getting past the lock will require biometrics or a pass code. After 7 days without either, the USB back door is closed until the phone is unlocked again.

I don't think there'd be much downside to most to shortening this to a day, a few hours, or even minutes.

I'd love to see a link to a credible news source corroborating your assertion about the FBI running an ongoing porn site to trap random people who may wander by. Please post a link.

What's the problem? They caught the people.

Don't get why they even let a USB device have access to unlocking the phone in the first place. Certainly not more then 3 failed attempts at all. Just lock out the port if the USB device failing authentication tries 3 times until it is authenticated via touch screen once properly.

Yet you are telling us secrets right now, if you were for real which obviously you’re not.

I don’t care if I’m a target or not. They shouldn’t have the capability to do this in the first place. Also, the red scare and the surveillance of mosques proves that it’s not just bad guys getting targeted. It could be anyone.

Yes, I’d rather let some criminals walk around freely than being controlled by them.

They HOSTED child porn.
Yeah, probably for an insignificant amount of time and without contributing to the black market for it. The real problem of child porn, and why it ought to be illegal, is that it's sold, creating monetary incentive to kidnap children for such purposes. Not that it's just plain gross.

Do you feel the same way about denying law enforcement access to a criminal suspect's home, car, storage unit, workplace, bank safe deposit box, etc looking for evidence, when a search warrant based on probable cause and signed by a judge, is obtained and presented?

Yes. Anyone could be a suspect for anything and thus they can go after everyone.

Please Apple, impliment this but make the delay user configurable with a max and a default of say 7 days.
I'd set mine to 2 hours...
And no, I don't have anything to hide apart from my life.
Then go one step further and allow the device to initiate a security erase in the background if attempts are made to unlock it via USB.
Yes, shades of mission impossible but TBH, I want snooping on my phone to be a 'mission impossible'.

My security is better. I got a flip phone from 2004 with no battery or SIM. Good luck getting useful data off of that.

Why don’t you actually look into the storey instead of this “probably “crap?

"Judge, I did sell cocaine, however for an insignificant amount of time and without contributing to the black market"

That's not going over well in court.

I did. It said they hosted it for free.
Edit: I obviously didn't read enough. As mentioned below, they didn't actually host anything.

It doesn't have to go over well in court. They were given authorization.

7 days is way to long and Apple knows it. I bet they chose a 7 day lockout to calm the natives (us) but appease the government (law enforcement) - a compromise. Nowadays, I don't think apple will ever make a truly uncrackable device. Governments & "Nation States" will always be able to eventually get in.
