Sometimes I get out my old iPhone 4S and iPad 1 (1st generation!) on iOS 6 and 5, respective, just to remind myself how good it was.

Despite having much slower hardware, iOS flies on them and registers input very consistently.

The best I ever used was an iPhone 5 on iOS 6 -- probably the fastest iOS device there has ever been.

I had a 4s and stuck with iOS 6 for a long, long time. I eventually caved due to software requirements and I've lived with that pain ever since. What a pile of garbage iOS 7 was on a 4s or earlier device. I still think Apple should allow anyone with that old of a device to revert to iOS 6, or at the very least, give them a "lite" version so it returns to something that you can actually USE.

(…) So ridiculous because Apple had a good running calculator app in iOS 10. (…).

I am not sure if this is the case. I am still running iOS 10 and the calculator did the same (mistake) when entering rapidly 1+2+3 ! (6, 6, 23, 24, 6..)
the same, if you (means I : ) enter
1+2+3+4+5 (33,33, 42, 15, 33, …)

Apple should simply rename this "Calculator app" into "Random Lottery generator" : D

There must have been no software issues when Steve Jobs was around.

Well that says absolutely nothing. How about something factual, entertain with an actual fact , where under jobs a similar error was present with a calculator app.

Otherwise don't rubbish him by comparing software under him with something like this .

I don't see how stating that software has "bugs" is an excuse to make blanket meaningless statements. Less excuses and more facts ?

So.... do you think this is a critical, very high, high, medium , low or minor bug....

#CalculatorGate?

I just tried and I got 24, but you can have a wrong result trying to type any other number.
The animation is way too slow. Even if I try to type at a normal rate (still pretty fast, but that's how I type on my iPhone) I sometimes get the wrong behaviour.
Looks like the guy who wrote Calculator.app is a slow typer, even if he spends most of its days using an iPhone. I wonder why him and the QA guys at Apple didn't notice the bug

Sounds like then the statements describing the perfection and utopia that were supposedly there with Steve Jobs are equally meaningless blanket statements that say absolutely nothing then.

That's the real question, doesn't matter which app is in the focus …
The assumption there being that it wasn't noticed vs noticed but not (yet) addressed.

Because we - the users - don’t give a crap if it’s a calculation error or an animation error, especially in such a simple project that was working perfectly. If I do 1+2+3 I expect to have 6 as a result. I don’t give a crap why it’s giving me a different result. Don’t try to minimize this.
The depth people go to defend Apple is amazing. Why can’t some just admit Apple messsed this up. Sometimes function is far more important than fashion. I love my Apple toys. Wish they would stop rushing out stuff

Err ...

sin(π°) = 0.05
sin(π rad) = 0

Press the Rad/Deg toggle.

Thanks, I didn’t notice. I’m pretty relieved that it’s not another problem with the app.

So it seems calculator apps default to degrees while desktop applications expect radians by default. I assumed it followed the convention used by every desktop application I’ve ever used.

Animations are overrated really. Btw, isn't a calculator the first project you get when studying CS?

It was mine.

And I thought I was just 'adding it wrong'. I was running into this several times since iOS 11. I thought I was just tapping too quickly...Glad it's not just me.

We can all say ios 11 is nothing but a joke, still no icloud messaging still app store problems still random ui glitches and stuff like calculator bug just cant get fixed in months of testing, what has happened to apple i think android is actually becoming more stable now days and apple is losing its optimisation, but we are all stuck in the apple eco system
You better run before those who kept mocking you all through the betas find you!

Guess who was right after all...

So it’s a bug that Apple is aware of and is fixing. But let’s make it a front page story because clicks.

Meanwhile the Pixel 2XL has major display issues including burn-in
https://www.theverge.com/2017/10/24/16519530/google-pixel-2xl-screen-issues-deep-and-unfixable

and the Pixel 2 has high pitched whine and clicking noises.

Yes and Apple had antenna gate , bend gate.

We’re not talking about hardware problems for the first month of sale of a new product, we’re talking about a calculater.app, the simplest app on iOS.

Cmon

Now we know why the iPad has no Calculator.
Seems to be an unsolveable problem for Apple.

But wait a minute... hey new emoji’s!
Came for the memes... wasn’t disappointed

Agreed. An intern could’ve worked on this bug and fixed it in an hour at most.
