Most stuff you speak of is limited to iPhone X. Since nobody has one yet how would anyone be able to beta any of these features?

The omission or presence of code would change code paths etc, so regardless of what the code does it could have an impact. It’s not a representative test.

Your demand is included in this equation since you’re here reading the leaked info. There are ways to easily avoid these leaks and wait to be surprised on Tuesday.

You can take it personally, and that tells me what you would probably do in the situation, but there are small things like ethics that mean that when you are trusted with something that is the business of a company, you do not go out and start leaking it to garner likes, you do not go out spreading the word like there's no tomorrow, because hey, we all want to be the most liked human on the planet! Morality, ethics be damned! We just wanna be at the top!

My using the term "hungry masses" may have annoyed you, but the point was this: the hungry masses do not expect people to rip apart someone's private "life" so to say, to give them "the juicy bits". You say my demand is included since I am reading it? It is not a happy read for me. I neither asked for it, nor wanted someone to give me these details. I would very much like privacy be kept at Apple and things revealed when the revealer wants to reveal - that is my respect to the people who sweat night and day to bring me an experience I love and enjoy, on both my desk, my lap and my pocket.

Another way of looking at it is journalistic integrity. I did not ask for these leaks. I was not looking for them. When I first came across the details, I was just filled with angst at the callousness of this developer leaking things out. He is a developer himself, for Christ's sake. The right thing to do would have been to nip the leak, not use that leak as his own personal trip to the land of glory.

Such are some twisted minds who think their shot at glory would be leaking details of what's coming from Apple. Well, could I not think that my moment of glory might lie in ripping their personal lives apart? Why would they do that to Apple? Answer is: shot at a pseudo-glory, a shot at supposed recognition, often confused with respect and regard.

This guy leaking things like diarrhoea out there, I did not know him before this. Now I do, and not glad to know him! In fact, would have been prouder and given a huge shout-out had he just posted this much, that someone sent him a copy of iOS GM, and he is not going to give details but has reported things to Apple to sort it out.

He says he is a developer himself, I would like to know his views if someone steals his code and reveals details to the public before his own big reveal. Pathetic, just pathetic.

So much for doubling down on stopping the leaks, Tim Cook. These leaks seem to happen more and more often, in fact.

But I guess when a door closes, a window opens, or however the saying goes. Under you, Apple may have lost control of its product launch messaging, but its social justice messaging is going like gangbusters! Not a bad trade, I guess.

This leak will avoid disappointment, that seems to be rampant here and elsewhere. A lot of people are REALLY into this stuff and suffer after it.

This forum gets particularly ugly afterwords, so maybe the leak is a good thing (or not so bad thing)

Using your fingerprint to authenticate was fine, the only problem was when you had wet hands.

Now we are going to have to present our face and double click the sleep/wake button? This is not streamlining the process at all!

Apply Pay in the shops is going to look weird using iPhone X

I really wasn’t taking anything personally, and my response doesn’t tell you anything about what I would do if I had a leak.

If you don’t have enough self control to stay away from spoilers this close to release when things are naturally going to start spilling out, that’s on you. Again, if you’re an active member of macRUMORS and visit daily, you’re one of the hungry masses feeding this leak machine. So don’t come here complaining and giving speeches about ethics and morality.

They should at least take away the licenses and memberships of everyone involved in the leak. Set a precedent that if you leak the software out of our campus, we leak you out of your job. If you leak things out of our software, we leak you out of your developer membership.

Possibly even litigate. Because people today have absolutely no regard left when it comes to ethics in such matters. Just for likes and viewership/ readership.

-1. What a horrible thought.

These developers are aiding the journalists at MR and 9to5 to whom the material was delivered. They are not responsible for the leak, and lashing out at them as punishment for Apple losing control of their own product launch will not go down well with the community.

Apple’s role would go from being the innocent victims, to being the bullying scumbags who got what they deserved. So no; they shouldn’t do that.

Nobody is leaking anything they have been trusted with and nobody has stolen anything. Not outside of Apples own staff anyway.

Over the weekend, the iOS 11 golden master software leaked out, revealing a wealth of details about Apple's unreleased devices just days ahead of their official unveiling.

New tidbits continue to come to light as developers dig through the software, and today we're hearing details on the new A11 processor in Apple's upcoming iPhone lineup, the Apple TV's resolution and 4K streaming requirements, and how Apple Pay will work with Face ID. There's also a confirmation that wireless charging is coming.

The iPhone X includes a new Face ID facial recognition system that replaces Touch ID. There have been some questions about how Apple Pay will work with the feature, and a new discovery from developer Jeffrey Grossman provides some clues. It seems the iPhone X will authenticate a payment using facial recognition, with payment confirmed using a double click on the side button (sleep/wake button) of the device.

There's also a reference to Face ID on both the iPhone and the iPad and iPod touch, suggesting Apple could potentially bring Face ID to future iPads and iPod touch models.

The A11 Fusion chip expected to be built into the iPhone X, the iPhone 8, and the iPhone 8 Plus is a 4+2 core device, according to developer Steve Troughton-Smith and Twitter user Longhorn. Four of the cores are higher-powered cores supported by two lower power cores. That's similar to the A10 chip, which was a quad-core SoC with two high-performance cores and two energy efficient cores, but it's likely to offer some impressive performance improvements.

As discovered by developer Guilherme Rambo, there are references to wireless charging in the iPhone 11 GM, confirming a new wireless charging feature. The software doesn't include many details on how wireless charging will work, but rumors have suggested Apple will use inductive wireless charging, which is how the Apple Watch is charged.

Apple's wireless charging is said to use the Qi standard, and it will be enabled through inductive charging accessories. Apple is planning to allow third-party manufacturers to create Qi-based charging accessories, but Made for iPhone certification may be required. Rumors suggest Apple devices will support 7.5 watts of power when charging inductively, and the wireless charging feature is expected to be included in all Apple iPhones coming this year.

Finally, developer Steve Troughton-Smith yesterday discovered the upcoming 4K Apple TV will render natively at 2160p and will support several color formats, including HDR10 and Dolby Vision. 4K streaming on the device will also require a minimum of a 15Mb/s connection.

Earlier leaks have confirmed Apple's naming plans (we'll see an OLED iPhone X, an iPhone 8, and an iPhone 8 Plus), revealed the Face ID setup process, given us a look at the split status bar on the iPhone X, hinted at new animated "Animoji" that will be based on user facial expression, confirmed an LTE Apple Watch, and more.

Well-known Apple blogger John Gruber said on his blog, he almost sure the iOS 11 GM is deliberately leaked. He mentioned that this is not a mistake, but a reckless Apple employee malicious. But no matter who did it, he would be the most unpopular people in Cupertino, CA, More surprises were spoiled by this leak than any leak in Apple history.

Kind of overkill don'tcha think? It's a leak about features in commodity electronics. It's not leaked vulnerabilities to the power grid. Perspective. Apple has an event next week, confirms what we know and the world keeps moving.

This is fun! Interesting to see what was left out and how much makes it into the final release of the
products. Could be a head fake to throw off other manufacturers? Good fun!

Careful what you wish for. What happens if Apple are caught acting on a leak from a competitor, that acceptable is it?
Also even signing up for a site called MacRUMORS means you're fuelling the fire.

Really? I come to MacRumors NOT for leaks, as another of my post just yesterday will tell you. I come here to interact with a vibrant community that shines light on being an Apple user. I come here not looking for information on leaks, I come to talk about my experiences with the betas I install, read about other experiences, talk about my hardware issues or not, etc. I have never ever liked anyone ripping apart the privacy of any individual or company to bring me or anyone anything.

Talking about self control, I may or may not go through what is brought before me. That is not the point. The point is that there are people who will sell their souls to bring me anything that THEY THINK I would like and applaud them for bringing to me. The primitivity of that notion creeps me out. That is the most disturbing thought.

I did not say so that it was. And to answer directly, no it would not be acceptable.

But again: the focus is on the leak, on the perpetrators of the leak. It is not about how competitors use that to their advantage, because if something from any of Apple's competitors leaks out, they would surely be looking at it. But that does not justify the act of leaking at all, nor does the taste and joy of people in propagating it.

But it's okay, I see that my purport is being happily lost here. Bowing out of this.

Thanks for this. Quite right. I don't always have to get into the right and wrong of it. When I do, hell breaks loose.

Well, looks like it’s going to be FaceID for everything, kinda disappointing to me, I really wanted some form of TouchID or even touch-less ID with the new sensors.

Now if it works this good to pass security for banks and Apple Pay, will probably never get touchless fingerprint scanning. Would still be nice to have that option.
I think people are underestimating how quickly FaceID will work. If they replace TouchID with an instant face capture (unlocks while raising the device) so that you don’t wait while it thinks then it’ll unlock before you even get a chance to look at a lock screen. If they fail at this then, yes, it’ll be a step backwards.

What gets me is that if this stuff is in the GM and not betas, then the beta testing isn’t really that representative is it?
What’s in the beta is supposed to help developers test their apps against API changes and for public feedback on those bugs. What’s new in the GM is always just Apple features that aren’t available to developers yet. Apple employees internally bug reports those.

I hate these idiots who feel they have to leak every single damn thing. I hate myself even more for reading these articles because I feel like I’m not “in the know” if I don’t.

It’s like some guy going around blabbing to everyone what happens in a movie people are anticipating and spoiling it. Then when you go to see the movie you’re not as interested as you know what’s coming.

I know it’s my own fault as I’m not forced to read these articles, but it is really annoying and is all too much. I will be avoiding them in the future. Lesson learnt.

I was actually just about finding who leaked, and take action. Unless it is they themselves who wanted to leak it out. :)
