It will still be an awesome event, can't wait to see the entire Steve Jobs Theatre from the inside.
I am sure there's more unexpected surprises to come. We haven't seen it all yet. Hyped for tuesday :p
Maybe Apple will release a stationary HomePhone...

Careful what you wish for. What happens if Apple are caught acting on a leak from a competitor, that acceptable is it?
Also even signing up for a site called MacRUMORS means you're fuelling the fire.

There is a difference between a rumour and a leak. I support MacRumors, not MacLeaks. :D

Really? I come to MacRumors NOT for leaks, as another of my post just yesterday will tell you. I come here to interact with a vibrant community that shines light on being an Apple user. I come here not looking for information on leaks, I come to talk about my experiences with the betas I install, read about other experiences, talk about my hardware issues or not, etc. I have never ever liked anyone ripping apart the privacy of any individual or company to bring me or anyone anything.

Talking about self control, I may or may not go through what is brought before me. That is not the point. The point is that there are people who will sell their souls to bring me anything that THEY THINK I would like and applaud them for bringing to me. The primitivity of that notion creeps me out. That is the most disturbing thought.

Ok that’s fine, but MacRumors is a site devoted to Apple news and Rumors, so complaining about leaks is a lost cause. Regarding your second point: I really don’t think most people are leaking info for personal acclaim or attention. The only leaker I can name is Ming-Chi Kuo. I rarely pay attention to the source of leaks reported on this site.

Might as well just cancel the keynote event at this point.
Who said they're having a keynote event? Maybe they're just having a gathering at the new Steve Jobs Theater to remember Steve and introduce the new campus.

That's the BIG secret.. no iPhones at all!

I think people are underestimating how quickly FaceID will work. If they replace TouchID with an instant face capture (unlocks while raising the device) so that you don’t wait while it thinks then it’ll unlock before you even get a chance to look at a lock screen. If they fail at this then, yes, it’ll be a step backwards.

What’s in the beta is supposed to help developers test their apps against API changes and for public feedback on those bugs. What’s new in the GM is always just Apple features that aren’t available to developers yet. Apple employees internally bug reports those.

I'm not talking about testing those actual features, I'm saying that the codebase (whether it's features for an unreleased device, or any other features) is different. Therefore the absence of this additional code could not trigger a bug when doing X, but the presence of it (regardless of what the actual code does) does trigger the bug.

I worked with a developer back in the mainframe days and we used to have a live environment and a test environment. This developer had a piece of code right at the beginning of his program .... if in test environment, follow this branch... if in live environment, follow this branch. Wasn't a true test of the same code.

Genuine question, I would like to know why then, do such leaks happen, if not for attention? Genuine question.

So after everybody gets done grousing about all the leaks - can someone educate me on how all this stacks up against the new Samsung? (I am not very techy - I just use stuff)
I personally went for the note 8, hopefully my order comes in this week. I like going back and forth between Android and iOS every year just to see what's new. The iphones lately have been getting a little stale.

"Leaked out"??? How does an entire release leak out?
It not a leak, it's marketing in the same way that politicians release copies of their speeches to the press the day before, so that the press can prepare their coverage - while it's still current news not yesterday's. This "leak" and the speculation about what it contains has put Apple squarely back in the headlines, just as it's going to release a new phone model and other stuff. The press are lapping it up and it's costing Apple nothing.

Without this hype, Tuesday's announcements would have been relegated to the unread backwaters of the tech sections of the press.

And I am feeling bad for Apple as these people have no regards whatsoever - just for some likes they will rip apart anything to bring before the hungry masses.

Bad for Apple? They most likely did this on purpose to build hype. Apple already knows people going to pick apart the firmware, and that's what they are counting on.

It’ll get tested before release. They’ll drop the GM on Tuesday as a developer and public beta and then release the next week if there aren’t any big problems found. At least that’s how they’ve run it in the past for iOS.

Completely agree with you. It's not even leaks at this point, it's just straight free marketing.

What gets me is that if this stuff is in the GM and not betas, then the beta testing isn’t really that representative is it?

Its generally representative of the OS without the functionality which would require specific hardware.

For example, beyond the obvious fact that they want it to remain secret until the keynote there wouldn't be much point in putting the Face ID stuff in the betas if it only works with the iPhone X hardware.

At this point the Keynote might as well go like this ... "Good day everyone. Over the last few days you have all seen everything we're releasing. Here are the official names and prices. Thank you and see you later." ...

These leaks are by design. Apple marketing department has a hype modelling algorithms. If the hype meter is low, leak some info. Hence the gm leak. Mainstream media will now report on this leading up to the event. Millions of dollars of free advertising. This is all planned and controlled.

Using your fingerprint to authenticate was fine, the only problem was when you had wet hands.

Now we are going to have to present our face and double click the sleep/wake button? This is not streamlining the process at all!

Apply Pay in the shops is going to look weird using iPhone X
It should be no different than clicking the home button twice for Touch ID, presuming of course the facial recognition works on an angle, and instantly.

Granted, please see my other replies....

At this point Apple could hold an event to unveil the contents of Tim Cooks sock drawer and it would garner worldwide press attention.

I can't speak for anywhere else but here in the UK Apple announcements make the mainstream news never mind the tech news.
