It will interesting to watch the rate of adoption given that there are a lot 32bit devices that cannot be upgraded. I have three 32bit devices that are running quite nicely, a testament to Apple's hardware., but lost to software. Will further jailbreak opportunities emerge to address the post IOS 10.x need? Raspbian anyone?

I think the update slowdown is mostly due to update fatigue. I have family members and coworkers who know there is an update, see the red bubble, have told me they have no reason not to update, but don't update because they don't feel like it at the moment or they don't see any reason to rush. They mainly say the last update or two didn't improve anything so drastically as to make them want to do it now. Eventually, the phone will ask them if its ok to auto-update overnight, and they'll probably do it then.

My brand new iPhone 8 Plus lagged as soon as I opened it. It has nothing to do with having a fresh install. iOS 11 is just poorly optimised and is a disgrace from Apple. Even after this update my iPhone with its ‘fastest mobile chip ever’ in a phone still lags. Quality control is just lost at Apple these days and has been ever since Forstall was fired.

Updated my 7+ on day 1. So far no issues and no lag. Device runs smoother than ever.

Why do you keep comparing iOS adoption rates to Android. Nobody cares what version of Android they're on. It's not important. Most Android users never upgrade the OS, they just buy a new phone.

iOS 11 introduces very few new things, sadly it's a very disappointing release. Hopefully iOS 12 will be better, and this would push people to update more quickly.
Things that were also said by some about iOS 10 and 9, for example.

“iOS 11 adoption rates are much slower than iOS 10 adoption rates during the same time period last year.”

Yeah... I wonder why. It’s not like they read the constant arcticles about how iOS 11 has poor performance and making apps run slow etc.
Because it's not like there could be all kinds of other reasons and variables in play.

I think I'll be hanging onto my 6+, and keeping it on 10 indefinitely.. for 32 bit apps. I was planning to get a X when available, but honestly thinking I might just get one for the wife and call it a day. I just don't care about phone upgrades anymore. I'm always down for a new iPad, but the phone is just used for calls, texts, camera nowadays.

Trust me, android is fine with this. I left because of how slow my apple phone got after a forced upgrade that couldn't be undone. And pleases don't insult me by saying I wasn't forced.

So true. Even with their iOS updates and processor capabilities, new iPhones are not even beating out a S8 plus in application speed and ram management. Thats just why adopting the latest full OS update doesn't change certain things.

Quick Off topic: Something like this made rethink and go with note 8, but if s9 star (rumor) is coming out, then Apple has to get their game up.

"...much faster...", "...well, not really much faster...quite similar..."

Yeah, that sounds like some interesting commentary.

(That's overlooking that it's not even an apples to oranges type of comparison.)

There is just no point comparing Android updates and iOS updates. Google has decoupled large parts of the OS through the play store which is why Android will not need OS updates for certain things while iOS will.

You can't update which APIs are supported through the play store. For example, if Google rolls out a new AR API to compete with Apple's ARKit, that won't be a playstore update.

Can't stand the compassion.. it's apples vs oranges every time with this type of stat. You can rock the boat multiple ways to get the results you want to make your product look good. This stat tells me nothing.

Can I say how much I hate the new animation that, when double-clicking to view open apps, "diminishes the current window before bringing up the list of open apps"? Why was that necessary? Am I the only one that now double-double clicks because I think the first one was registered as a single-click? Why on earth would an animation that DELAYS the requested action be considered a good thing?

My iPhone 6 has been smooth as glass since I got it nearly three years ago. Install iOS 11, and stutter, stutter, stutter, freeze, delay, stutter. OMG, I'm so sad. My phone was still working perfectly, until yesterday. I should NOT have upgraded.

Just downgrade. You sound like it's unfixable. I did a clean update to 11 on my iPhone6 128Gb and it slowed it right down. Totally unacceptable. Just restored it to iOS10 while Apple is still signing it and my phone is now perfect. Smooth super fast and battery lasts all day long just like before. Screw major Apple updates.

I think another factor is that people who plan to buy the iPhone X aren’t quick to update their old phones.

If you look at recent iOS history, it seems like the newest devices are the ones iOS is not quite optimized for out of the box. I believe people had complaints about the 7+ animations last year and possibly the 6s+ before that. It usually gets ironed out after awhile.

This has only been the case with new iPhones since iOS 7 up to now. Before that when I bought my iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 they were both smooth as silk right out of the box. iOS 11 may get smoothed out but will never be as smooth as my experiences with those two phones.

Try a clean iOS 11 install using iTunes. Wipe it, fresh iOS 11 install, fresh install apps. This will go a long way to clearing up problems and issues. Incremental updates on a major iOS refresh usually result in lag and other problems.

Hi there, I appreciate the advice. I will give it a go...thanks

Why always, yes always the negativity towards Apple product from you, if you don't like it then it might be a better option to stay away here.

And no, Apple does not force you to update, 'you' make the choice to update

Wrong. When Apple relentlessly pesters you DAILY to update iOS, that is NOT "choosing" to update. Choice by the force of a gun is not choice.

Loosing support for old apps what don't work with iOS 11 is one of the things it will stop me from updating.

I don't understand why Apple don't let people use old apps in iOS11. If they make your iPhone or iPad slow that is your issue and then you will know if you can't use them. But blocking old apps is not a great thing to do.

My old 6 Plus was "stutter, stutter, stutter, freeze, delay, stutter" long before iOS 11. The 6 was only 20% faster than the 5S and still had only 1GB of RAM.

My 6S Plus was worth the upgrade after just 1 year, and continuing to keep it. My 6S Plus is butter on iOS 11.
