Apple on Monday introduced iOS 11, the next major version of its mobile operating system for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. The software update, available this fall, includes a completely redesigned Control Center that fits on one page and is much more customizable thanks to 3D Touch.
Talk is cheap and abundant.
If some ones says they can do better put up or shut up.
Comments on interface are subjective.
What if I don't have 3D Touch?
Wired.com said:Simply put, Force Touch has less capability to measure your touches and presses and doesn’t react as quickly to your input, whereas the new 3D Touch is highly sensitive and reacts immediately, while also allowing different “levels” of actions based on how firmly you press.
It might sound like an indistinguishable difference, but anyone who wants just a little bit more out of Force Touch (or really, really loves it) on the Apple Watch might disagree. With the Watch, you can push and wait for the click … and that’s it. Now, 3D Touch offers functions based on a lighter push or a firmer push. And if you ever felt that you had to force Force Touch on the Watch, 3D Touch should alleviate that with its higher sensitivity.
I don't think that way. 3D touch has nothing to do with long press. The whole experience is very different from long press.Doesn't that just prove that 3D Touch is a gimmick?
So given the mini Music player looks like a widget, why not take the next step and create some 4 tile widgets for the Home screens? It's not that big a stretch. And some info widgets - 4 tiles seems to occupy about the same space as an Apple Watch face. Press to pop up list of Events or messages or mail or weather. Quicker than opening an App.
And it being Apple, control them (at least for a while) and see what the response is.
Could also find a use case for 4x1 and 4x2 widgets. I hate the mess that Android is at times but there are a lot of people asking for more.
My biggest peeve on Android is the staggered releases and being generations behind due to brand and telco. Some Android apps that also work in iOS are better: Aldiko ebook reader is MUCH better on Android - can tailor the screen layout and brightness from within the App. If only the iOS let me do the same! (Or update iBooks for goodness sake!)
It looks so bad that even in the conference they were showing the new control center for only a few seconds.
Wish we could reorder them all... id much rather music for example at the bottom, not the top.
I hope this is not the final design. It looks terrible. However I do like the idea of a customizable control center.
Considering how much information they have to share during the Keynote, they have a very limited amount of time they discuss topics on. Not to mention, about 60% of the other iOS features they can't even touch on, because they continually move through the process to the next thing with time constraints.
Your theory because it "Looks bad" is completely anecdotal and not a valid reason why they displayed the control center for more than a few seconds. All of Apples keynotes/conferences are like this.
Sorry, but that's how Apple builds its products with a harmonious balance of form and function. This is one of Apple's core value propositions that differentiates them from the rest of the PC and mobile world. You can try sugar coating it anyway you like, but this implementation of a customizable screen is just downright ugly.Complaints of function over form are weak.
NO ability to turn location on/off in control center?
God damn it, I really could use that.
