Was really hoping to see a "Location Services" toggle...but this is still a step in the right direction

Apple on Monday introduced iOS 11, the next major version of its mobile operating system for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. The software update, available this fall, includes a completely redesigned Control Center that fits on one page and is much more customizable thanks to 3D Touch.

I've got an iPhone 6, no 3D touch - what happens if you don't have 3D touch?

Edit - nevermind, people have said you just do a long touch. We'll see how it works when a lot of us get our hands on it.

After I comment I will go back and read the posts, but on first view those screens look congested and confusing. Not sure that this is a useful re-imagining of the lock screen controls. I'll see what everyone else is saying now......

And yet, I still can't control which apps and features make which noises.

It's 2013, this is years overdue.

The joys of having Grace UX...seems Apple iOS needs something like it. That's just hideous (iOS control center)...nothing else to say about it.

My complaint is the way that Apple's UI design is so disjointed when it comes to putting a label on icons. Some places all or some of the icons have text, other places none do.

This makes many users have to guess or remember what a particular icon means. And/or have to experiment to find out. It's a UI mess.

And it makes iOS devices even less intuitive for seniors like my Mother.

Apple used to be about making and using the best UI/UX guidelines. Now it's all about style, instead of usability.

Talk is cheap and abundant.
If some ones says they can do better put up or shut up.

Comments on interface are subjective.

Actually they aren't so subjective when they're coming from people who have done the research or have read the research. There have been considerable amounts of study on this stuff to find what works for human cognition and what doesn't. Apple did a lot of the research themselves (check out what they used to publish), but they've since abandoned this research, most notably to justify the look of ios 7. The only defense I've heard from Apple is "most people are used to this stuff now", which completely locks out new users (and there are ALWAYS new users). New or old, there are best practices in human-computer user interfacing.

I hope this is not the final design. It looks terrible. However I do like the idea of a customizable control center.

3D Touch? I thought it was called ForceTouch?! Hmmm

A-HA!

https://www.wired.com/2015/09/what-is-the-difference-between-apple-iphone-3d-touch-and-force-touch/

Source 2: https://developer.apple.com/ios/3d-touch/

Wired.com said:
Simply put, Force Touch has less capability to measure your touches and presses and doesn’t react as quickly to your input, whereas the new 3D Touch is highly sensitive and reacts immediately, while also allowing different “levels” of actions based on how firmly you press.

It might sound like an indistinguishable difference, but anyone who wants just a little bit more out of Force Touch (or really, really loves it) on the Apple Watch might disagree. With the Watch, you can push and wait for the click … and that’s it. Now, 3D Touch offers functions based on a lighter push or a firmer push. And if you ever felt that you had to force Force Touch on the Watch, 3D Touch should alleviate that with its higher sensitivity.

So given the mini Music player looks like a widget, why not take the next step and create some 4 tile widgets for the Home screens? It's not that big a stretch. And some info widgets - 4 tiles seems to occupy about the same space as an Apple Watch face. Press to pop up list of Events or messages or mail or weather. Quicker than opening an App.

And it being Apple, control them (at least for a while) and see what the response is. ;)

Could also find a use case for 4x1 and 4x2 widgets. I hate the mess that Android is at times but there are a lot of people asking for more.

My biggest peeve on Android is the staggered releases and being generations behind due to brand and telco. Some Android apps that also work in iOS are better: Aldiko ebook reader is MUCH better on Android - can tailor the screen layout and brightness from within the App. If only the iOS let me do the same! (Or update iBooks for goodness sake!)

I think Apple should take a cue from S8 on how to do the control center. The new CC is a mess compared to the one in in S8 which is neat and elegant but yet more functional. When you pull down notification in S8 you see one line of 6 customizable toggles. Pull down a second time more toggles show up. Tap on toggle icon to turn on/off. Tap the text description below the toggle to set most common options related to toogle. Press detail in options to go to setting page (or you can just long press on the toggle to go directly). imo, Samsung implementation of control center is one of the best (if not the best)

It looks so bad that even in the conference they were showing the new control center for only a few seconds.

Considering how much information they have to share during the Keynote, they have a very limited amount of time they discuss topics on. Not to mention, about 60% of the other iOS features they can't even touch on, because they continually move through the process to the next thing with time constraints.

Your theory because it "Looks bad" is completely anecdotal and not a valid reason why they displayed the control center for more than a few seconds. All of Apples keynotes/conferences are like this.

Yeah, I really like the idea of deciding what to put there, and finally 3D touch is useful on control center.
They might change the layout a little bit before releasing 11 to the public, in the past we have seen multiple changes between the first betas and the final product as far as concern UI

Yah, now looks better!!

Complaints of function over form are weak.
Sorry, but that's how Apple builds its products with a harmonious balance of form and function. This is one of Apple's core value propositions that differentiates them from the rest of the PC and mobile world. You can try sugar coating it anyway you like, but this implementation of a customizable screen is just downright ugly.

NO ability to turn location on/off in control center?

God damn it, I really could use that.

Finally someone...why only on page 5?
This is one of the features I miss most after not having SBSettings anymore :-(

It's such a pain when you have Waze completely off and it's still draining your battery in the background...

A mystery that it's asked for by so few people.

Do you guys have location services always on? It's such a battery-drainage...
