Doesn't that just prove that 3D Touch is a gimmick?
Yes, yes it does. A very expensive gimmick which is partially to blame for the loss of the headphone jack and could potentially raise the price on the iPhone 8 if the rumors are true.

Maybe but 3D touch just feels better and you dont have to keep your finger there. You just push and its there.
3D touch and long touch take the same amount of time and you can remove your finger after menus pop up.

'Home' is an option, but it would be good to have the individual switches etc on the screen.

I think it looks amazing. WAY better than I ever expected. LOVED what they did with volume and brightness control. The customization is the cherry on the cake. Best iOS 11 feature.

Of course it looks like a mess when pretty much everything from settings is thrown in there. I highly doubt most people will add that much to it. I'm not saying it's the best design I've ever seen but then I didn't think iOS 1-6 were either. But I'm not a UI/UX designer so I suppose my opinion doesn't count.

It does not look that bad on the iPad mini....

This was the best use of 3D Touch I've seen yet. It's been mildly useful thus far, but too ambiguous and forced in some instances until now. One-handed, quick controls for things that are obvious, but used to take time into the settings menu is a great use of the feature.

How is it complicated when you don't have to use those features. My 75 year old mother uses iMessage just fine. She's never sent a sticker in her life. Of course people are going to say the same thing about the iPad changes. Everyone complained that iPad needed "pro" level software and now that it's getting it my Twitter feed is full of people complaining that it's too complex (even though they haven't used it for even 5 seconds). Sorry it's darn near impossible to add more features and functionality with zero complexity.

My 66-year-old dad is totally flustered by the clutter of buttons in iMessage.

iOS is a mess. If you're not a tech person, and if you haven't been dragged along with each update from back when iOS was easy on the eyes and more intuitive (iOS 6.x), it's really hard to be a new user. That used to be one of iOS's biggest benefits over the competition. Now it's the opposite. The gestures are out of control, the controls are vague as hell, the design is hard on the eyes and lacks any sense of clarity of function or distinctiveness between objects...

Subsitute your talent for complaints.
Send Apple your redesigned control center and post some screenshots here so we can take a look.

Because that would be a great use of his(?) time to create designs for free that Apple won't use anyway... Apple needs to get their collective heads out of their collective posteriors (or out of Jony Ive's posterior) and put real user interface design experts back on the job.

I keep saying it: iOS 7. Shark. Jumped.

The new control center blows me away! Thank you Apple!
This. It is an amazing step forward in UX. You are always on the right screen, buttons are always in the same place (unless you add them all and you need to scroll), buttons are clearly delineated and instant sliders for both brightness and volume are perfect. You now even have the optional customisability many people wanted.

This is a win all around. Functionality over form finally.

UX/UI designer here... what a mess. It's sad what's become of Apple lately.
UX/UI designer here. What's your solution for a customisable control centre?

I wish I could give you lots more thumbs up. iOS isn't terrible, but it is no where near as user friendly as it used to be. Especially to a new user. And it's not because it can't be easier, despite all the newer functionality. It's because Apple doesn't employ (or ignores) software usability experts.

The new control center is good. I like it. But it's not a step forward! It's a step back to before it was ruined, and then enhanced.

I guess that's the strategy with iOS? Make it so bad that when you get something right, it seems like you actually made progress instead of merely backpedaling a crappy decision?

Apple on Monday introduced iOS 11, the next major version of its mobile operating system for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. The software update, available this fall, includes a completely redesigned Control Center that fits on one page and is much more customizable thanks to 3D Touch.

Control Center's default appearance (left) and with additional controls (right)

When you deep press on the Music pane, for example, a larger pane with volume, playback, and other controls pops open. Likewise, when you deep press on the pane with Airplane Mode, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Cellular Data toggles, a larger pane pops open with AirDrop and Personal Hotspot toggles.

More granular controls appear by deep pressing with 3D Touch

On iOS 11, users can add and organize additional controls and toggles to appear in Control Center through the Settings app. However, the following controls are default and cannot be hidden: the system toggles pane, music, orientation lock, brightness, volume, Do Not Disturb, and AirPlay Mirroring.

In Settings, users can add and organize additional controls to appear in Control Center

The following controls can be added and organized in Settings:

o Accessibility Shortcuts
o Alarm
o Apple TV Remote
o Calculator
o Camera
o Do Not Disturb While Driving
o Flashlight
o Guided Access
o Homeo Low Power Mode
o Magnifier
o Notes
o Screen Recording
o Stopwatch
o Text Size
o Timer
o Voice Memos
o Wallet
Control Center still lacks a truly customizable drag-and-drop layout, but the return to a single-page design and some customizability are welcomed improvements. The ability to add additional controls such as Low Power Mode and Accessibility Shortcuts will also be appreciated by many users.

The first iOS 11 beta was released to registered Apple developers on Monday. A public beta will be available in late June through the Apple Beta Software Program. The software update should be officially released in September.

Why can't I have the date "and" time on my screen display?

You really toggle things that much?
Flashlight and orientation lock get a lot of clicks form me. Brightness slider too. I never use audio controls from the control center because I prefer going into my audio app instead where I actually have full info and controls. The cc audio is really only useful to me as a stop button (not even a play button because that often fails to start my music - app's fault, not Apple's).

Talk is cheap and abundant.
If some ones says they can do better put up or shut up.

Comments on interface are subjective.

I don't know if I'll get ios11 (Ipod Touch 5 is a no go, while I'd like to finish up some things on my Ipad Air before updating from ios8), but having more customization could be a welcome thing. I was psyched when the CC first came out as I used the shortcuts to wifi, and all the bottom 4 apps... flashlight, Calc, clock, and camera (although I just use the shortcut from the lock screen). I liked hos Android lets you customize its pull down/notification tray. However, I can see why some folks are upset about this. Hopefully, they'll retain the option for users to stick with the current CC layout.
[doublepost=1496792900][/doublepost]
I wonder if that's a security thing? Since you can use CC while the phone is locked, perhaps Apple doesn't want to add that feature because then anyone could easily switch you to a nefarious network while you aren't looking.
Can't the OS distinguish between the Wifi setting being accessed from the lock screen vs. an unlocked state?

This reminds me of how up to Windows XP (perhaps even into Vista?), if you're on a restricted PC (like at your workplace, or a school computer), you can't bring up the calendar from the system tray. It only shows the time, and the calendar only opens if you click the button to update date/time... which on a restricted setup, is grayed out

I think it looks absolutely hideous BUT it shows one thing really well: Apple is actually listening to their customers.
We wanted a customizable CC so we finally got one. But it is like the telephone game. Until our messages reaches Apple on a appropriate level, the content of those have already changed.

At least I loved the design of CC in iOS 7-9, I just wished we could’ve customized the bottom four buttons of it (and 3D touching wifi etc). Now we got this mess.
