Because the keyboard would take up too much of the screen. It's the same reason Apple doesn't include all the new software features on older phones: if the feature creates a poor experience due to insufficient speed/ram, they don't include it. The iPhone 8 will likely include landscape and will be nearly the same physical size as the 7. That's Apple's solution for you: get the new phone.

The Photos app need some things from old iPhoto. I want to be able to tag photos so that I can find them and that it will be added to the photo so that I can tag on the computer and have it on the phone and ipad also.
Then smart folders in Photos so that it will automatically place photos with a tag, place, persons or other in the same folder.

Smart dialer can be a good thing, nothing I need now but maybe in the future.

I want dynamic app icons, not animated. Like the weather app and so on. Not that all apps need animations, will just take battery for displaying.

TouchID on per app basis would be very welcome.

Different background on app pages (on games game background and so on) First page can be a dynamic background with weather and so on. And that I can place apps on any slot on the app pages.

Back with Slide to unlock on devices that don't have touchID. My home button is not responding so well on my iPad Mini2 so it is hard to unlock.

Let us choose apps in Control center. I never use the timer but I use the alarmclock several times a day. Is timer really used so much???

All native apps to support landscape mode including the phone app. I want to have my iPhone 7 Plus in a wrist case when I am working and training. Now if someone calls me when I am in landscape mode and I need to do something in the phone app I need to rotate the phone.

The calender app, give us a new good calender.

In the US the Movies app is replaced with the TV app. Please dont replace the Movies app with TV, the app is not good. I am glad that we still have the Movies app in the rest of the world.

Icloud - I want to be able to store all my ripped movies, tv-series (and other I have bought, and yes it i leagal here to rip for private use), homemovies and other in iCloud. I will pay for the storage no prob. But I want to be able to access it from Movies/TV-app with all the meta tags from my iTunes. And I want to be able to download it to the device so that I can have with mewhen I travel. And having it on iCloud (maybe uploading it via iTunes on the computer) I can access my whole movie library from my computers, iPads, Iphones and AppleTVs. And yes I have Plex but I dont want to have a computer on 24/7 just for that.

Separate all iTunes logins from eachother. If I want to use one for iTunes/Apple Music, AppStore, iBooks, iCloud and so on let me do that. If I login to my american account (appstore) all my local music is deleted and I need to login again to my Swedish accountand download the music again.

Let me have a Pro version of camera app. With more options and RAW support. No I don´t want to need to download a app to get access to features that is on my phone.

I'm going to have to agree with the poster though. It's not that difficult to just be able to search contacts while dialing. Any reason I have to tap phone, tap contacts, tap search field, enter a few letters, tap the contact, tap the phone I want to dial as opposed to: tap phone, enter letters, tap number to dial (assuming the design is like androids and it expands all the numbers for a contact).

But you don't have to do any of that. Just search from the home screen. It has a call button right there in the search results.

Another example: In mail, if you want to create a contact from a recipient or sender, you can click their name and you are given two choices. Create new contact or add to existing. Some of us have more than 5 contacts so I don't remember all of them. So I click add to existing. I scroll through all my contacts (note the search isn't pre-populated of the name of the person nor does it even bother to search if the number was added under a diff contact). If I can't find my contact, I have to tap back, tap the name again, but this time tap create new contact and fill out all the details manually, most likely causing a duplicate of the number or email if I already had that email under a different contact name. Would it be that much harder to just click add, top of the screen says create new, and bottom has a list of possible matches by name, email, or phone number? Can't defend them on this.

Yup. This does annoy me, so I've filed rdar://32432064 with Apple.

You know it. Can't imagine why Apple doesn't do this. We can have a keyboard, but we can't have a mouse. Kinda silly.

Because iOS doesn't have a mouse pointer, a notion of UI elements being focused, or any kind of need for either of those.

You haven't shown how:
  1. go to home screen
  2. tap phone button
  3. choose third-party dialer
  4. tap on numbers but don't actually want numbers because this is apparently the 1980s
  5. tap another phone button
is faster than:
  1. go to home screen
  2. swipe down
  3. type on an actual keyboard
  4. tap phone button next to person you were looking for
And that's without any third-party apps.

Tap on phone. Tap on 2-3 numbers. That's it.

vs

Swipe down. Tap on full keyboard (2 hand operation vs 1 hand operation on android), swype down to find contact if you have multiple same or similar names.

Gimme a break :)

I would like to be able to change the way dates are displayed independent of Language and Region in the same manner I am able to display time using 24-hour format. I live in English Canada and would prefer to have dates displayed as dd-mmm-yyyy (e.g.: 26-May-2017). I don't understand why Apple refuses to provide this customization.

I would like to see a setting in Safari that would allow me to increase the size of the fonts on a particular page. The fonts in some sites are so tiny that make the site unpleasant to read in a small screen. Turning the phone sideways just gives the sites permission to display more text per line and doesn't help matters. Zooming in helps but then I have to continuously be scrolling left and right to read the text. Increasing font site in Settings/Accessibility doesn't help as Safari does not enforce usage of those settings. Reader mode is not available for all sites so it too is not the solution.
A built in solution as described in the following site http://osxdaily.com/2012/05/11/change-font-size-safari-ios-bookmarklets/ would work best.

Tap on phone. Tap on 2-3 numbers. That's it.

Just to be clear — you're saying that letters in a dial pad are a more convenient means of typing names than a full keyboard?

There are lots of apps that can already do this.
No, you misunderstand, unlocking a mac from a iWatch can be done, unlocking on a new Macbook Pro is also possible, there's no unlocking from an iPhone.(For older Macs without TouchId)
Yes there is a solution that does this: check out MacID. It provides granular control that allows you a myriad of ways to unlock your Mac with your phone, watch or other devices...

There are two "animated" (changing) icons today: Calendar and Clock. While Calendar makes sense, the Clock is completely redundant with the time on the top bar.

I would like to see the Weather icon be the symbol for the current conditions at my location (or a stock one if location services are disabled).

I use Fantastical 2 and Be Weather. Would love animated icons for them.

Tap on phone. Tap on 2-3 numbers. That's it.

vs

Swipe down. Tap on full keyboard (2 hand operation vs 1 hand operation on android), swype down to find contact if you have multiple same or similar names.

Gimme a break :)
Except it's swipe down, type 2-3 letters with one hand (easily done on a full keyboard), and tap on the contact to call (or message, or FaceTime, etc.) and that's it.

Seems like no more work than the smart dialer (and can even be seen as simpler in a sense as it all can be accessed anywhere you are essentially without having to first go back to the home page to get to your phone app).

iOS needs much better design, some customization and somewhat freedom like, to access all files at one place like mini Finder app.....Apple has to think about these things very seriously now. Yes, iphone is superior in speed, performance and optimization....Yes we get it. But now, to attract new customers and also to hold up your loyal fans, ios has to be revamped in whole new level. No matter how hard an iphone user it is, they all are somewhat getting tempted with android's freedom and customization option nowadays. Its been 10 years and ios' look and feel, operations and functionality is pretty much same since beginning. Long run users wants some spice now. It is human nature, we want new things all the time. so, why not a whole lot of changes in ios? I love iphone, but now I am just so bored looking at same ios design for almost 7 years now! Apple, please give us new ios

I've been using iPhone since the first release, and I don't ever want an Android phone. No I'm not tired of the iPhone's user interface. I never have and never will want an OS to entertain me.

1. Mail not sucking. That would be great. I like Spark a lot, and liked CloudMagic before they ruined it. The weaksauce push notification support is a problem. I would like to be able to use handoff between my iOS devices on Mail.

2. Dark mode. Yes.

3. More of a watchOS request, but I really wish there was some obvious notification when the watch loses connection with the phone. Great way to basically say, "Hey doofus, you forgot your phone."

4. A Swype style keyboard would be lovely. I know you can enable third-party keyboards now but... it never feels right and in my experience has been really buggy. (Admittedly, I haven't touched it in iOS 10. Maybe it's better.) I still find the stock Android keyboard to be the absolute best. Combine that with the 3D Touch "trackpad" feature and boom! That would rule.

5. Control center customization would be nice. I'd like to be able to easily toggle personal hotspot. 3D Touch support on WiFi would be nice to quickly get to networks.

6. Multi-user support on iPads would be fantastic. I would like to be able to switch mine to "kids" mode for... well... my kids without all of my stuff being accessible. It would be nice if I could tie TouchID to different profiles too. For the phones this doesn't matter much, but on iPads this seems like it's a common issue.

I never understood widgets. Even in all the years I used Android I never used them. I don't use them in macOS via dashboard or Notification Center either.

Yes, I know about the Clear All Notifications 3D touch option,

Well I didn't! Thanks for mentioning that.

Honestly, my wishlist is to have a completely new OS...

iOS is archaic, from a Nokia competitor to a multi-tasking Pro tablet, it feels it is really bloated. I know it works well, just like a VCR still works well today in the age of of 4k streaming. Works... but outadated.

VCRs never worked well.

Cheers, but in another post (#99) I already said:

Yes, I am aware of that app, I am cheap .

I know you are joking, but I will mention it anyway:

Preferred language order (in Language & Region settings) has not been working on iOS 10 from day one. I have filled multiple bug reports about this, but they all were closed since apparently Apple is aware of the issue.

Basically, iOS defaults interface language to whatever language that you put on top of preferred language order. Thus - it is not possible to have the device in English, but have all the apps default to another language (like transit maps app to German when you are in Germany, or Russian when you are in Russia etc.) As of now - this future is completely useless, since it basically duplicates interface language setting. Most apps default to iOS interface language with no option of selecting the one you want. You are pretty much stuck with everything in English, including local names, navigation directions that are pronounced completely wrong etc.

I am shocked that Apple did not fix this yet. Something is telling me it will never get fixed in iOS 10.

"iOS 11 - get ready for some new bugs on top of the old ones."

Yup, I have this problem too, all my devices are set to English yet I want some Apps to use a different language, no can do.

Maps indeed is the one which should be localised, It's set to English but it should pronounce the names in the local language, laughable.

How about stock weather and calculator apps on the iPad? I mean really, why don't those exist?

I've actually written to apple about this. There can only be a couple of reasons why:
- force people who want these to buy iPhone;
- save development resources by not customizing for iPad.

More than anything, it just weakens the iPad by denying a continuity feature and removing useful functionality.

Using a combination of 'Favorites' in the Phone app and 'Do Not Disturb' with 'Allow calls from Favorites' option set should achieve the functionality you describe.
[doublepost=1495798837][/doublepost]
Doesn't work for me. Even contacts marked fav with do not disturb and allow calls from fav do not ring thru. That is with the side button on the SE turned to ring.

Option to temporarily turn down volume of music during navigation prompts for all navigation volume levels...not just normal and loud.

You enter your password when you set it up and that password will be used for decryption.

That is not how cryptography works.

(Which is fairly obvious, if you think about it. Would you want anyone to be able to specify any password and then be able to access the data?)

BIB: a current third party solution is Lookout. Haven't used it in some time but when iPhone is out of range of Apple Watch it does alert the user by an audible alarm.

Stopped using it sometime last year as it kept going off when my iPhone was literally 10cm away in my jean pocket but things might have improved since then.

Personally I'd like to see Find My... for Powerbeats too seeing as I lost mine the other week :-(
