I am hoping for some major overhaul to Apple MUSIC (AM) app. Apple who consider themselves a company that revolutionized music have done a poor job in keeping up with their competitors.

Some of the major issues I see:
  • BETTER UI. I feel Spotify offers a much better UI than AM.
  • For starters, can we please have collaborative playlists?!
  • The music discovery engine also lacks quality at the moment.

The only thing I'm looking for is Apple CarPlay support for Waze and Google Maps and the ability to read texts while the vehicle is stopped.

Apple will introduce the next-generation version of iOS, iOS 11, on June 5 at its Worldwide Developers Conference. While WWDC is less than two weeks away, we've haven't heard many details on what we can expect.

There's talk about an overhauled design and an updated user interface along with rumors of new functionality for the iPad, but beyond that, we don't know what's coming, and we don't know what that new user interface will look like. In the absence of rumors, we've taken a look at some of the most-desired features MacRumors readers are hoping for in iOS 11, culled from our forums.

Unsurprisingly, many readers are looking forward to a new design and an overhauled interface. Here are some of the things readers want in a design refresh:

- Animated icons - Allowing developers to add small animations to app icons is something that iOS users have been wanting for several years. With access to subtle animations, apps like Fantastical could feature an icon with the current date, or third-party weather apps could display the current temperature.

- iPhone complications - The Apple Watch interface features multiple complications or small icons that let Apple Watch users glean information at a glance. On the iPhone, complications could be added to the lock screen or the Home screen to serve the same function, letting users see information like weather or activity level without needing to open an app.

- Customizable Control Center - iOS 10 made a mess of the Control Center, splitting it into three screens. MacRumors readers are hoping for a more unified design with the ability to choose what icons and functions are displayed. Expanded 3D Touch for more granular control over Control Center options would also improve the Control Center.

Widgets would look nice and possibly fit in with Apple design requirements if they were limited to taking up an entire row and up to two entire rows on the home screen, for iPhone at least. Animated Icons could also serve as mini widgets as stated.

One thing I personally would love to see is improved battery management by tracking user habits through Siri. Even going as far as giving tips based on usage habits like telling you to skip the odd video when browsing Facebook or spending a little less time on Reddit to conserve battery life for when you might need it most. Siri could even give tips like reminding you to put your phone on charge 2 hours before you leave on a long trip so your phone is fully charged when you leave.

A little more control for family separation. E.g., hand off for specific linked devices, but not all on the same account. I have my iphone and ipad, and my wife has hers, all under the same Apple ID. It would be nice to separate those into mine and hers without any cross-over.

Man, animated icons and complications would be fantastic. I have an Apple Watch and never really imagined it on iOS!
There are two "animated" (changing) icons today: Calendar and Clock. While Calendar makes sense, the Clock is completely redundant with the time on the top bar.

I would like to see the Weather icon be the symbol for the current conditions at my location (or a stock one if location services are disabled).

I know, what I meant is, just delete the Contacts App.
And a user can already do that.
You have favorites on android as well. And no, it does not. There is no point in having 100+ favorites :)

Siri is a joke I'm afraid. Especially if your native language isn't english. And you are mostly calling for non-english names :)

Nice joke :)

Didn't watch Google I/O, or even read about it. But Android is way ahead when functionality is compared to iOS, so even if Google adds nothing, Apple would need a few years just to catch up. And that is if they even wanted to.

For everyone who recommends favorites over speed dial:
I highly doubt you guys have ever used speed dial, or have any idea what it is (no insult intended, just my opinion) :)
Parhaps you are confusing what is typically associated with speed dial functionality with something else that is at least somewhat different?

It's an idea, but probably for a typical phone user it's not likely one that they would necessarily expect or want.

Passcode / Touch ID for turning off the phone. My stolen 4s would've loved that. Thanks.
Taking out the SIM would also disconnect the phone
Not a viable fix

A great thief would have a signal jammer with him to block Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

I would like an app store for ipad pro only. That could mean real pro apps for an ipad 12.9. After finding out that MS has benchmarked this processor as only 35% slower than a current i7, I am sure the impression of ipad pro being crippled by iOS is real.

How about landscape mode for the music app? When I have 6+ mounted in car for navigation and other, I have to turn my head 90 degrees for the native Music app.

Indeed, you are right! Thank you for that. Language barrier, english is not my native language, and in my language it is translated as 'speed dial', but it should be 'smart dial' in english.

See video above, and once again, thank you:

I know what speed dial is, long press a key (Like number 1) in keypad (In iPhione App) and it dials a number you have set it to dial, guess what, I just tried, it works.(Never knew I added that one and that it works)

Just like above :)

I certainly did use speed dial back when I had a feature phone rather than a smart phone (my first smart phone was Sony Ericsson p800, so long before iPhone) But I can honestly say that I do not think I have thought about it, and certainly not 'missed' it since.

Needing 100+ speed dial codes sounds like a fairly unique use case to me personally and if you can actually correctly & efficiently recall 100+ speed dial codes I'd suggest that you are fairly unique too. The 9 (or 10?) slots my feature phone had were plenty for me but then I do not have 100+ contacts that I need to call in a hurry on a regular basis.

You have looked in the app store for speed dial apps though yes? I never thought to look until replying to your post but it seems there are others that feel the 'need for speed'..

I do feel Apple have other priorities over an old fashioned speed dial.

And once again, just like above :D

But to clarify, when you have a job in which you have to call random people all the time, smart dial helps. Favorites doesn't. And anyone with a 100+ contacts would find smart dial really useful. It's still hard to believe iOS doesn't have that rather simple option.

Apple doesn't seem to believe it's something that is needed given how they envision people using their devices to contact others (be it via a call, FaceTime Audio, FaceTime video, etc.).

That said, what the video shows is fairly simply accomplished through a quick search in the contacts section of the Phone app in iOS. I'm also pretty sure there are third party contact apps that allow for that particular "dialing" kind of functionality (as appears to be the case with Android as well).

Well, you use smart dial for phone calls. That's the whole point of smart dial :)
There are some third party apps. But since they are not integrated into iOS, they really can't help much.

That's why we need Apple SIM embedded in the logic board + Apple Carrier!

Why not? You do what you need to do, tap on call/dial and iOS will ask you if you want to call that number.

Even without that, simply go to the contacts screen in the Phone app and do a quick search there and easily place a call.

I like the smaller sized phone like the 5! I know, I know, no one else likes the smaller phones. I'd love to see new stuff in a phone of the 5 shape and size.

I'd also like to see a password for deleting specific apps. Like "find my phone". When a phone is lost, can a finder currently delete it if they get past the code to turn the phone on? Maybe they can't, I just thought of that one.

What's the point of iCloud Keychain on the phone when it won't fill my login for my Credit Card app, for example, and the only way to pull up a password is to go to a website with a password field, tap "other password", then authenticate with Touch ID, then you can't COPY AND PASTE the password, and they're all super long, so I have to take a screenshot of it, then open it in photos, then double tap the home button a few times switching between photos and the app I'm trying to log into to get the password right.

iCloud Keychain should be securely accessible by ALL apps.

Use a password manager like 1Password or LastPass

Apple should do an NFCKit so developers can use the NFC functionality for more than just Apple Wallet and Apple Pay.

Honestly, my wishlist is to have a completely new OS...

iOS is archaic, from a Nokia competitor to a multi-tasking Pro tablet, it feels it is really bloated. I know it works well, just like a VCR still works well today in the age of of 4k streaming. Works... but outadated.

And how will us who switch SIM cards between 2 phones go about our business?
With the easiest method, the easiest method you've ever seen, it will be tremendously great your head will spin, believe me.
