Yeah but no public beta folks were testing it on the new hardware. That's why I think they need to stop releasing a new iOS and new phone at the same time.
But it wasn’t limited to the new hardware. It was just noticed there first. Many others were reporting the same issue across older devices.

Can’t say I blame those who reacted or panicked.

In the past, you allowed Apple time to remedy issues and had faith they would—without the help of social media and tech reporters. Unfortunately, today’s brand is smug, unapologetic, and evasive when issues taint their image.

Now the question is... Does 12.1 fix the stutter problem on XS & XS Max phones?

The second beta of iOS 12.1, which was released this morning, includes a fix for a charging issue affecting the iPhone XS, XS Max, and other iOS devices.

Discovered following the launch of the two new iPhones and highlighted over the weekend, the charging bug causes some iPhone and iPad devices to refuse to charge over a Lightning connection when the screen is not activated.

According to iMore's Rene Ritchie, the new iOS 12.1 beta fixes the issue so iOS users will no longer need to double check to make sure their devices are charging after being plugged in.

The bug does not affect all iPhones and iPads, but those who are impacted have seen their devices fail to charge over Lightning when plugged in while the iPhone is asleep.

Tapping the iPhone to wake it up in this situation resumes charging, but an iPhone that is affected and plugged in with the screen deactivated can refuse to charge, resulting in uncertainty over whether or not a device is actually charging.

While this issue originally came to light because of complaints from iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max owners, it appears it was widespread and affected many devices running iOS 12.

What im noticing is that the ipad dock is easier to pull up without going home

Indeed I’m a lawyer!!! Thanks for noticing.

But anyway: how in the world is this a major issue? The issue was - “phone won’t charge, sometimes, for some people, if they don’t press the screen first. Seems like a software bug and fixable.”

How is that not a major issue? Thinking your phone is charging when it isn't, is a big deal.

When? I went back and they told me they had shipped them all back.

BS

I called 1-800-MYAPPLE and they transferred me to the Walden Galleria store in Buffalo. They said they had a few still in stock. I went and purchased a 256GB silver Verizon (Qualcomm) iPhone X for $1049 ($100 off from previous amounts).

You said BS at the end of your message. I’m not sure if you signed it as your initials or if your calling my post bologna. If it is the later, I take offense to that. It’s not bologna. Best Buy had them as well in the Buffalo area, but because they weren’t getting an activation they wanted to charge me $50 more than Apple. If you need me to post the receipt, fine - I’ll do it - but don’t call bologna on my post just because it didn’t work out the same way for you. All the best finding a phone that will work for you.

I love that you consider a device not charging a “minor testing oversight”.

I don’t know who you are or what you do professionally, but you need to quit, and become a lawyer, unless you already are one. Cause you minimize effortlessly.

I can see it now;

New car owner: I just bought this brand new car and it won’t start
You: Don’t make a massive ****ING FUSS over a minor testing oversight

Patient complaint: They operated on the wrong leg
You: Don’t make a massive ****ING FUSS over a minor surgical oversight!!

You are the minimizing hero we all need and deserve!!
Well that’s a bit extreme. The device still charged when you woke it. I’m not saying it’s minor but it’s not the end of the world. Your metaphors are a bit extreme, it’s more comparable to the car not starting when the door is open. But bottom line it should be fixed with a 12.0.1 release and not a beta.

All that complaining in MR forums for nothing. All people had to do was turn on the screen before they plug the cable. The definition of a first world problem. I wonder what people like this do when some real problem comes into their life.

Come on, this is too Apple-fanboy'ish even for this forum.

Some issues never get fixed. For example, one of my biggest annoyances was introduced a few years back, and still remains to this day. When typing on web pages (for example, this forum, or any other large text boxes), the screen used to auto-scroll to the line/box you were typing in. At some point, that stopped happening, and it never came back. Now you have to manually scroll just to see what you’re typing, as it can end up off-screen. I greatly preferred when it would automatically follow the cursor for you.

I just called a local Apple store and they have two X’s

THANK YOU! I hate having my stuff called out as being wrong when it didn’t work out the same for someone else. Your post is appreciated.

There’s quite a difference between you refrigerator not working because it’s not plugged in (minor issue, fixable) and it not working because it’s on fire, exploded and burned your house down and set fire to the entire block (major issue)

I don't know if you worked with software (it's my career), I can tell you now that Apple aren't in their HQ thinking "Oh this is minor, things like this happen", they are throwing a **** storm as to how that got past QA because it is god damn embarrassing. Not even Apple's PR team would take the stance of some of you Apple fanboys on this forum.

What is your refrigerator was not working but it was plugged in? And the only way for it to work was for you to open and close the door to start the cooling process? Then sometimes it would start, but stop later and you’d have no idea until you opened the fridge in the morning to some warm milk.

That’d be a better comparison.

Hell I still see the bug that I first got on my 6S where going into the Messages app and the the keyboard doesn't show up.

iOS 12 brought some welcome improvements to the iPhone, granted.

On the iPad, however, it is hot garbage. Erratic charging would be the least of our concerns.

Which iPad do you have? I've been running the beta of 12 since it started, and only last week did I put plain vanilla iOS 12 on it. I've never had a second problem.

Yeah that just happened to me today. Slightly annoying. But not as annoying as waking up to a less-than-full charge, of course.

With websites, there's no telling what javascript is interfering with what the app want to do. If the website has its own spell correction, you just can't pick Apple's as you normally do.

I'm referring to Apple's Messages app, the one built into the phone.
