So here is the situation I am in. My son has my old 6s that we updated to iOS 12, went camping for the last 5 days (without the ability to charge his phone) came home, plugged it in because it died while camping, but it does't do anything... started drilling him with questions if he dropped it in water or otherwise had maybe broken it without telling me... He swears he didn't do anything to it so I came here looking for others that might be having the same problem. Now that the phone is completely dead, and won't do anything when plugged into my MacBook or into a wall charger what do I do to fix this? Contact Apple Support I suppose, but are there any other options for me?

iOS 12 brought some welcome improvements to the iPhone, granted.

On the iPad, however, it is hot garbage. Erratic charging would be the least of our concerns.

Four iPads in my family, iOS 12 works perfectly. Maybe someone at the Genius Bar can hold your hand and provide a bit of assistance?

My friend who has Verizon on his XS Max reports better reception than his X
Your friend is an apple apologist.
Lol
I am in the same boat as ATT.
I think they slipped an update or two in there.
My reception has been noticeably better

First, leave it overnight in the charger and see if it works.

Second, check inside the SIM card slot for a red or white dot. If it’s red, it’s water damaged.

Third, try restoring in DFU mode (plug it into your PC, hold power + home for 10 seconds, release power and keep holding home until it shows up on itunes. then restore)

Fourth, I’ve lied to my parents more than a few times...

That’s an interesting twist... how to charge a phone that requires the screen to be turned on to initiate the charge, but the screen can’t be turned on because the phone is not charged.......

Now that’s a pickle.

First: Done that.
Second: Will check ASAP.
Third: Tried that.
Fourth: Haven't we all?

Thanks!

Yes, yes it is...

After installing iOS my 6 plus stopped charging on my car (supposedly MFi certified) cable and also my nightstand charging cable, but is fine on other chargers I have. I assumed it was some crackdown on questionable cables but maybe this update will solve my issue. Hope they push out the fix sooner than 12.1, though.

Maybe as much as you can provide a thoughtful answer.

The new app switcher, control center, gestures, new time placement, globe and 123 button swap, etc are all garbage changes for the sake of change. They make the iPad less usable, not more.

Those hundreds of thousands weren't using the unreleased XS and XS Max.
Charging a device should be the simplest thing to do with a new device. Apple is obviously not doing proper testing before release of new products. You don’t pay as much as you do for Apple products to be a beta tester, sad as it is that’s what it seems like with half their new products these days...

Is this an all or nothing type of thing? I ask because I have been having an issue where it will charge and then stop, charge and then stop, etc. and it happens quickly. It only happens in my car, which would of course lead you to believe it is a charger or cable issue. However, it is a new cable and no other phone has an issue - it only happens on my XS Max.

Mine bricked while I was traveling and using the iOS12 beta. It had a battery that was only eight months old. I replaced that battery and currently the phone is functioning fine. Both replacement batteries are from iFixit. I learned that Apple's Battery Health feature doesn't acknowledge non-OEM batteries. Combined with the 6S's flawed power management engineering, the phone is prone to power failures when the battery accumulates enough charge cycles.

Replace the battery.

My SE started acting up in this regard after updating to iOS 12, although I didn't notice it until recently. Still not sure if I am suffering from this bug or not, but it has been taking multiple attempts at plugging in the cable to get the charge process to begin. I thought it was simply a bad electrical connection due to lint collecting inside the Lightning port. I cleaned that out and the charging experience was better, so I thought that's all it was, but maybe it was also this bug causing issues.

How about fixing battery drain issue of iphone 6s and ios12?

Yah, my SE's battery seems to be draining much faster under iOS 12. I was pegging that on misbehaving 3rd-party apps that have not yet been updated with full support for the latest OS.

I'm sure it was fixed because people complained on MacRumors. Sure.

Probably not from complaints on MacRumors since people on here we're directed that the first beta of 12.1 fixed the issue and that came out before mass attention was brought to it.
