any word about wifi/LTE issues?

Not fixed with my XS Max on developer beta. In fact my wife's iPhone 8+ got reception on LTE where the Max got nothing even though it was showing 2 bars. Went into field test mode on both phones and both were at about
- 96. Returning my XS Max until they can get this figured out. Not acceptable for a $1200 phone. Sounds like a hardware issue though without an easy fix. I should add I've been using the Note 9 without any connection problems. The Snapdragon processors work better than the Intel ones. I routinely got 10% better download speeds with them and never lost phone signal either. The iPhone obviously integrates with the whole iOS/MacOS system but not if you have connection issues .

Probably not from complaints on MacRumors since people on here we're directed that the first beta of 12.1 fixed the issue and that came out before mass attention was brought to it.

So you think they heard about it and rushed out a beta in 3 days or so after they heard about it. Riiiiight.

I see this whole situation as follows:

It seems to me that Apple is market positioned as a producer of luxury items. This tends to set the bar high for them.

So when they make a mistake, be it hardware, software, marketing, management, etc. Deservedly or not, some people are going to make a really big deal about it.

From my perspective, if they are going to set the expectation of a superior experience they better well live up to it.

Personally, I like Apples products. However, for a company of its size, human and financial resources I expect better.

Another "gate" down. Now, would you stop with that "gate" nonsense whenever some minor problem pops up, OK?

Thank you in advance.

Nope, not happening.
There is a whole YouTube community out there who base their carrier solely on iPhone "gates". There is a bunch of YouTubers who impatiently wait for the new iPhones every single year and desperately try to find an issue (doesn't matter how small) to create the next YouTube hit. UnboxTherapy have tried for years now to replicate his BnedGate success. And will never stop. Not that he cares about the product, it is the clicks and subscriptions he is after.

The first beta came out before the launch of the XS and XS Max, so no I don’t think anyone heard about it and pushed out a beta to specifically fix the issue though it is possible Apple did catch it that fast internally. What I’m saying is that with the first 12.1 Beta, the issue wasn’t present to begin with so exclaiming that Apple specifically addressed it in 12.1 Beta 2 is way too much false accreditation to them especially when they didn’t push any release notes on this. So no, I don’t think Beta 2 that happened to be released 3 or so days after this got mass attention was an Apple rush to fix the problem, especially in testing with Beta 1 the problem wasn’t producable so why would they waste their time. This is all just big coincidence and I feel like people are sharing way too much misleading praise that Apple reacted.

Well that’s a bit extreme. The device still charged when you woke it. I’m not saying it’s minor but it’s not the end of the world. Your metaphors are a bit extreme, it’s more comparable to the car not starting when the door is open. But bottom line it should be fixed with a 12.0.1 release and not a beta.

I had the more extreme bug. Device wouldn’t charge after touching the screen. Nor pressing the button. Unplugging and replugging it in multiple times resulted in charging.

Sadly, it’s more akin to operating on the wrong body part. It happens more frequently than you think. And it’s the one outcome that shouldn’t happen - yet does.
Kinda like a phone that doesn’t charge. Yeah - that’s a major problem.
Then again I’ve heard people minimize operative errors by saying: “at least your still alive”. So there’s that.

Bigger the bank account, bigger the target.

I’m still sidelining until the cellular issues get sorted. Shame cuz the XS / max look nice.

I think it’s wise to hold out. I was even thinking about preordering the Xr later this month, but I’m very leery about it. Oh well, we can only wait and see at this point.

Wonder why it only affects some devices.
From what I can tell it affects all devices, it is just some people don't see it.

I thought my XS Max was unaffected as I never saw it and it wasn't until I tried to figure out the variable to replicate, that I could. Then I asked one of my co-workers if they have the issue with their phone and they said they didn't. Asked to borrow their phone briefly and was able to reproduce it there as well. Then lastly reproduced it on another co-workers phone.

Basically the variable is that the phone needs to be asleep for a certain amount of time before connecting the charger. I, as well as my co-workers, always pick up our phones to plug them in so the phone wakes up and charging works as normal. If you sleep the phone and wait ~7 seconds or so before connecting the charger, I reproduced the bug on all three of our phones.

going from a 6s to 7+ gsm sucked. can't imagine how much suckier this could be.
