Tethered connection to a monitor isn't that appealing for most.
I absolutely don’t see a mouse, but I see a new apple display!!ooooh I love what this hint hints at. Does anyone see a mouse pointer in iPads future?
I can totally see them do it. Would make it easier to switch the phones too next year. And the whole lineup is already so chaotic, I wouldn’t be shocked at all.I just can’t see Apple adopting USB-C on the iPad while the iPhone still has lightning. And Apple makes more money off of lightning adapters, I’ll be shocked if this happens this year.
but the profit for Apple is bigger on the mac sells.
Nah. They're moving toward a hybrid system much like Microsoft's Surface line, except they're going about it in a totally different way. Apple has locked down the tablet experience already; now they're making iOS more flexible and creating an ideal accessory environment for added flexibility/functionality. It makes perfect sense.Looks like Tim Cook is at it again, corrupting Steven Job's vision. Soon they'll add mouse support and the dream of the iPad will be dead.
At this point, why not just get a laptop?Do you think the USB C port on iPad will allow it to connect to external drives?
If you do that you're going to have big problems from the ghost of Steve Jobs. Now I'm going to need a USB-C to Lightning adapter for my Lightning to 3.5mm adapter so I can use my headphones with this iPad Pro?![]()
Why it must be then a Notebook form factor? The hinge on a MacBook makes it impractical in some use cases. A MacBook isn't a tablet. But a tablet can be converted to a Notebook. If Apple wants.::SMDH:: It sounds like you guys want the iPad to be a MacBook. Just buy a MacBook.
A tablet is never going to replace a laptop. Try programming on a touch screen. This would mark a major milestone in iPad’s evolution into a laptop replacement. Wouldn’t it cannibalize MacBook sales?
Is this 4K display support just for movies or mirroring UI? If not that raises even more questions, such as:
- Can you connect a mouse and keyboard to it?
- There are multiple solutions to circumvent the “mouse or finger” dilemma in their labs that are all compromises. So they have been postponing implementation decisions as there wasn’t a clear direction or strategy on this dilemma.
- Could Marzipan work both ways—not just making it so you can get iOS apps running on Mac, but get Mac apps running on iPad? This would enable apps to run in a mouse friendly way when connected to an external display.
- Neither yet, because of this lack of direction. There’s conflicting interests on sales volumes (where iPad wins) and functionality (where Mac wins) and they definitely have some hard eggs to crack here - making this category of rumors the more interesting. An external screen would enforce a few decisions (as to whether it be a touch or a dead screen)
- Did Apple lie recently when they said that they weren't working on a Surface like product? They've lied and/or changed course in the past, such as the video iPod, iPhone denials, saying that an iPad Mini makes no sense, and I remember Phil Schiller ripping apart wireless charging around 2012 and saying it's dumb to need a pad and that makes it not wireless.
- Tim & Phil’s persistent denial of a Mac/iPad convert implied they would rather follow than lead in an eventual paradigm shift where MS took the lead with Surface. I think that despite MS flawed imlementation the Surface idea itself was great and Apple is feeling some heat right now. That doesn’t mean they were just lying (of course they did, as it is 50% of their job...) but that the paradigms are rolling (Tim will soon start talking on “developing perspectives”)
- Will you be able to plug any USB-C device into it? Will it download drivers from the web? Will it provide power to connected devices? Having a USB-C port implies a lot of things should just work with a device to avoid customer confusion.
- That ’s another area of contradiction. iDevices are closed systems with ultimately zero ports. USB-C would allow it to open up for endless interconnection opportunities that the (phone!) OS doesn’t support as it is canonically opposed to its design direction. So who *ever* decided to keep an iPad running on a phone OS... that flaw will ultimately kill the idea of iPad being the Next Computer/PostPC device, which they favored because of its mass deployment.
- This is exactly the core problem of a company led by a sales guy (like Tim) and not a product guy (like Steve)
Now I'm going to need a USB-C to Lightning adapter for my Lightning to 3.5mm adapter so I can use my headphones with this iPad Pro?![]()
If Apple were to add mouse support, how does that kill the “dream of the iPad”? You can still use your finger, just like when Apple added support for the Pencil. Maybe they’ll sell twice as many iPads, that would be great! Steve will be dancing in his grave, not rolling.Looks like Tim Cook is at it again, corrupting Steven Job's vision. Soon they'll add mouse support and the dream of the iPad will be dead.
I laughed so hard. Now I'm going to need a USB-C to Lightning adapter for my Lightning to 3.5mm adapter so I can use my headphones with this iPad Pro?![]()
Mac is dead for apple, the signs are obvious
A tablet is never going to replace a laptop. Try programming on a touch screen.
iPad Pros are basically toys designed for watching Youtube and web surfing on the couch.
Not gonna happen. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few – or the one.
AKA: what most people are using their devices for. The MacBook isn't going anywhere, but for the vast majority of people an iPad absolutely can replace a MacBook/laptop.A tablet is never going to replace a laptop. Try programming on a touch screen.
iPad Pros are basically toys designed for watching Youtube and web surfing on the couch.
I don't think this follows current Apple logic. In order to maximize revenue in the post-growth iPhone sales world, they will introduce the new iPad Pro with a new, proprietary Lightning Pro connector, incompatible with the old one because "innovation", and then provide inexpensive, $29.95 cables for Lightning to Lightning Pro and USB-C to Lightning Pro.
Oh, and the new iPad Pros will cost extra $300. Because again, "innovation."
