Netflix or iTunes never ceased to work on the 3rd gen Apple TV. Don't know about the other two.
Perhaps yours wasn't on the latest software? But even on the 2nd gen, iTunes still works.

The only Apple TV that unfortunately can't connect to the iTunes Store anymore is the 1st gen from 2007.

my bad - i guess it is a Atv 2nd gen...

itunes won't work if you have 2 step authentication

There needs to be more clamoring about getting Home Sharing integrated into the TV app. Why should you have to stream a purchased movie when you have a local copy sitting in a home sharing enabled iTunes? It's a waste of bandwidth! Not everyone lives in an area with high-speed internet, not to mention bandwidth caps imposed by ISPs.

Sorry off topic but about TV app Apple TV Software 7.3 beta! ? On the developer site apple has put this out its beta for Apple TV 3rd Gen has new TV app but it appears to be in US Only. Thought someone might like to know.
AppleInsider is reporting the 7.3 beta is currently very slow/laggy on the 3rd gen TV.

It might be prudent to turn off automatic updates on your 3rd gen TV until reasonable performance can be verified.

Haha! So you mean like Apple pay is not available in Austria but available in Kazakhstan. Or how Finland has surprisingly a lot of things present even though they are a small country with a complicated language and have Siri.

It is very arbitrary and that country importance is really not any sort of metric.

How do you even do view that? Passport strenght? Economy? Population? Land mass? Indusrty? Army?

Has there been any mention of user profiles? This is a non-starter in a lot of households without. Need to each have a profile so it's unique to you. Same with Homepod, god knows when that'll arrive (if ever).

Secondly, does anybody know which UK services would be integrated with the TV app? I was hoping for Now TV rather than a separate app. But who knows.

Oh well. I was joking.

However, Apple Pay is quite a bit more difficult to bring to countries than, say, a TV streaming service.
Apparently Kazakh banks are easier to work with than Austrian banks. By the way, at over 17 million there's more than twice as many people in Kazakhstan compared to Austria.

That's not to say I didn't understand your concern; as a German who got Apple Pay only late last year I absolutely do understand. It's confirmed to come to Austria soon though.

But with Apple TV+ launching in over 100 countries, I'd say it's quite a safe bet that Austria will be one of them. Perhaps even Tadzhikistan, who knows... :D

Are you sure about that? You can probably just append the 2FA code to your password.
Or create an app-specific password just for your old Apple TV: https://support.apple.com/HT204397

I personally don't care about Austria...

Actually more than getting confirmation on whether service will be or not available when I am from, I wanted to point out that this kind of information is very important. We get it US will get everything, but there is literally more than just that spot of land.

And yes, every single feature has its own problems and advantages to be present in some markets. I think Finland is fast to adopt, due to their relatively big presence in the computer industry. Apple pay in that regard is hard to implement in many EU countries due to the type of legislation. In the end Apple TV app will end up having the same type of issues as Netflix and other services that comes down to licenses. Germany in that regard might be a harder marked to enter than say France or India...

I guess, now we play the wait and see game.

I kind of just assumed you were from Austria. I absolutely agree that it would be nice to know what countries will get Apple TV+ at launch, but probably even Apple doesn't know yet, hence "100+" and not an exact number. At over a hundred countries though, I'd say it's safe to assume most larger ones will be aboard.

You're missing that Apples new TV+ service isn't limited to Apple TV devices. It's coming to "smart" TVs of several brands and, among others, Amazon's Fire TV.

apple has had the TV app for awhile which unified everything. This isn't new. The only new part is adding in the cable subscription channels, showtime, HBO, etc.

I still don't see how amazon unified anything. They don't have anything like the apple TV app. The last time I used an amazon device, aside from amazon content, it was just a wall of apps you had to go in and out of.

I owned or have owned a ton of streaming devices over the years. I rank the amazon fire devices the crappiest of all of them.

[doublepost=1553707734][/doublepost]I’m sure hoping the TV App takes into consideration my very large local iTunes library.
The update to the library section of the TV app is one of the worst things I've seen.

Please tell me Movie posters are not horizontal...
They are. also TV shows. It looks bad.

Does the Computers.app still exist on the new Apple TV beta? Or is the iTunes-streaming functionality built into the “Library” Tab of the Apple TV.app?

If not, does the Computers.app also now have horzential movie posters?

The library tab in the TV app still only contains the iTunes purchases. Computer app still exists. Thankfully artwork remains the same as it was for movies and TV shows.

That’s unfortunate and fortunate. I wish it would just be in the TV.app but Apple will never do that...As least my custom vertical movie posters can still be used.

And it’s still one of the worst apps in the eco system. Still can’t delete TV shows in the library and it’s still full of content that I don’t have access to.

Utter garbage app.
