I don’t like the idea of Face id being being the only way to log into the device. I’m often looking away from the device ,
talking with someone when I unlock the device to prepare for the work I’m going to do after I finish the discussion.

I also usually unlock the device while it’s laying flat, face up on the table so that I can stare down at it from a distance . Probably too far away for Face id to work.

it’s worse with my iphone as I usually unlock it while it’s in my pocket so that I take it out for a quick check for messages and return it during a boring meeting . i try to make it difficult to notice so that the speaker isn’t offended by me not paying attention.

An ipad or iphone right in front of my face for facial recognition is going to be very easy to notice.

Finally, when I'm snowboarding, I'm wearing a helmet, goggles, and sometimes a baclava which will definite prevent my face from being recognized. Usually I'll take one glove off , unlock with touch id, check for messages from friends who are on different runs than I. We message each other to regroup or to take a break together. I'd had to have to undo all the head stuff because touch id is no longer available.

If FaceID is implemented then they need to add the ability to store multiple FaceIDs.
Many, many households share iPads. My wife and i for example do so and we each have our fingerprint stored on it
It has been, but only two faces is what I'm reading. Fine if you have only smaller children or want complete control to stay with the parents, but it really needs to allow additional faces for older children, grandparents living with the family, etc.

There's no earthly reason for a notch on an iPad. Apple is so lost these past few years.
There is no reason to think the iPad Pro will have a notch.

Another reason for moving the status bar to edge could be to better accommodate split screen. That would make sense.

I don’t think that Apple has lost it at all. The notch on the iPhone made very good sense and was pretty clever to be able to specify 5.8” screen on a fairly small device

I'm not a fan of the the HomeButton, but on a tablet it's certainly the better choice than FaceID for so many reasons.

TouchID can be reduced in size by approx 1/3rd very easily. So, no reason to kick TouchID even with a slim bezel...

I think one of the greatest advantage of Face ID little mentioned is ‘Attention-Aware’. If you are looking at the device it will not time out and the screen go black in front of you. This means that the iPad/iphone can have the lock time set for a short period (only 30 seconds on my iPhone X). This means the device quickly locks when left unattended increasing security and saving the battery, but remaining open when in use, even if you are just reading something on screen and not otherwise interacting.

Face ID on an iPad is and will remain a terrible idea until they implement it so it works in landscape mode too.

It seems like the natural next step for the iPad. I am not crazy about the notch or the lack of a physical button, but that's just me. I guess I'll have to get used to it eventually.

I can’t believe that Face ID on an iPad would not work in landscape. In fact that is likely to be upgrade with next iPhone too.

That would pretty much rule out this iPad version this year then. As I cannot see a tablet getting a feature upgrade/version before Apple's phone.

It would be more of a story if this didn’t happen!

September is going to have so many new iPhones and iPads with Face ID that it’s going to have be renamed ‘Notchember’.

You’re welcome.

Funnily enough, this is a feature of iOS 12 - well at least one other appearance, but the limit of one seems to be arbitrary.

Assuming loss of Home button, and addition of Face ID:

The position an attached keyboard defines the bottom for, I assume, a lot of people. (If so, then the Apple logo on the back needs rotating, as has been mentioned.)

They need a small amount of bezel at the bottom so that it is still possible to pull up from the bottom of the screen with an attached Smart Keyboard without hitting a number key. (A new Smart Keyboard would be needed*, so the number row could be moved away a a little.) A matching bezel at the top with the sensors would avoid the need for a notch. Device would need rotating to take a portrait selfie but they could add the option of just using the middle third while in landscape. People might start taking more landscape mode videos! (On iPad anyway.)

So I’m visualising an about 11’1 inch display with about a 6mm bezel all around. Same width as 10.5” Pro (so they can still call the keyboard “full-size) *but slightly taller to keep the expect ratio, therefore weighing a little more. Hopefully with the cameras from iPhone X[2].

For the 12.9” model I think they will shrink the bezels a bit to lose weight while keeping the same screen size. So a bit lighter.

(iPad mini Pro sounds unlikely to me.)

A 1TB model would great.

Possibility for 3 apps side by side in iOS 13 next year???

With wireless Pencil 2 charging by laying it down on a magnetic bezel, pretty please.

If it also has a 20%-50% speed increase I’ll be setting my alarm for when they go on sale!

Lol. I see... The plummeting sales of the iPhone X are here to prove you’re righ... Oh, wait.
That is his opinion. I have an X and I agree with him on the Touch ID. Also it doesn’t matter Apple could release the most stupidest thing ever and people would buy it just cause it has an Apple logo. So you can’t really go by sales imo.
