Notch on iPad - no bueno. It would stick out so much when watching movies in landscape. A little tiny bezel to house everything would not be terrible. I really hope Apple doesn't pull a marketing trick and try to force that damn notch on stuff just as a branding feature.

Don’t really like removing CC from the swipe up gesture, it was convenient as it was and there’s the space to have it all - but I guess they’re going for cross-iOS consistency. I’m also not a fan of the status icons being grouped to the sides but at least all the info is still there unlike with the iPhone X

Why no notch on the iPad Pro ? I think it looks cool ! And would be OK to be with! Wouldn't you guys like the extra screen real estate that a notch iPad Pro would give ?

In my opinion, the notch is fine on a phone but would be distracting on a large device such as an iPad used in landscape mode. If there is a notch hopefully it is only visible when using the device in portrait orientation or preferably not at all.

I will be very sad to see TouchID go. I’m still hopeful that one day they will surprise us with under the screen TouchID but I don’t like my chances anymore.

As for less bezels on the iPad... bring it on!

I actually like it on the iPad, still not on the phone. And for the bezels.. yes!

If you use apps for drawing, it would be weird for the toolbars in landscape: tiny canvas area -> notch -> toolbar

I'm so glad that I grabbed a 512GB version in what looks to be the last non-Face ID iPad Pro. It'll have to last me a long time apparently.

I really hope they don't eliminate the bezel. I use the iPad Pro to create artwork. I hold it with my left hand and draw with my right, and my left thumb often winds up resting on the bezel. With no bezel, it would make stray marks all the time. It would be a nightmare.

Would we'd rather have marks on the bezel or screen ? They'd be more noticeable on black, and besides, we'd need to clean it anyway.

since 2012 when iPad mini was released, iOS can detect accidental or intentional touches
Same way you hold one now- with the touch rejection Apple started using when the iPad Mini came out.
That‘s not the issue. I’m holding an iPad mini right now in my hand and can easily rest my thumbs on the bezels on the side of screen without covering any content.

How am I supposed to do this when this remaining bezel gets removed?

The bezels of an iPad are its handles! You can't remove the handles!!! Can you imagine how awful it would be watching a movie if your hands are covering half of the screen? Ugh!

If they really go this route, then Apple needs to make the back chassis out of some material other than aluminum. Or coat the aluminum with a grippy suede or something. Kind of like what MS did with its surface keyboards, if you've every used one. And no, I'm not talking about a case. Using a case defeats the purpose of such a thin device, IMO.

That way, you don't have to walk around awkwardly pinching the iPad's bezel-less edges, because who wants to intentionally smudge their screen? Or like someone mentioned above, how would one stabilize the iPad when drawing on a table? Do they expect artists to put their non-drawing hand's fingers on the screen? More smudges.

Bezels do have their place.

Depends on the app you're using. For example, Procreate has settings that allow you to designate the stylus as the only thing that can make a mark on your canvas. Fingers can still be used for gestures within the program.

I prefer TouchID but what can I do? And that notch! It’s fine on a consumption device like the iPhone but not iPad where people are creating content and making art. I think they should offer two versions. The “pro” should really never have an interrupted display.

If no Home button then the screen would be bigger rather than the iPad shrinking. Or they wouldn’t be able to call the Smart Keyboard “full-size” anymore. (With a probable increase in iPad height to keep the aspect ratio.)

No doubt also a bit heavier again.

I want it NOW!
Me TOO

Seriously though Apples inability to deliver hardware on a decent schedule has me very frustrated. The lack of hardware at WWDC, especially this years WWDC, was just plain stupid. Instead of a shortened keynote to fit the limited material they had we got a lot of fluff wasting plenty of time where hardware could have debuted.

How do you properly hold a bezel-less iPad?

Spit your chewing gum into the palm of your hand, slap the iPad on it, - surf.

Yeah, it’s imminent, but what does the timeframe (later than WWDC) let suggest:
- A11X when A12 is parallel released with the next iPhone
That is an interesting possibility. I just doubt that they would wait until September to launch a new iPad. For one it is a big demand on a company even Apples size to launch the cell phones. Second; they most likely would want the new iPad on the market before back to school really gets in gear.
- or both (iPhone 2018 and iPad Pro 2018) get the new A12 since „it’s so powerful“

That would be an interesting possibility. What is interesting with A12 is that if they keep the same die size they will have an incredible amount of space to implement advanced special function logic. That is after beefing up the CPU's and GPU's. So the other thing to consider here is the rumors that A12 is already in production. That could mean launching A12 on the iPad ahead of the iPhone which is actually a good way to ramp up an advanced manufacturing technology. Processor manufacturing doesn't normally start so far in front of the iPhone launch so A12 on the iPad is a real possibility in a month or two, say the end of July. Since A12 was rumored in production a couple of months ago that would be about 4 months production start prior to manufacturing new iPads that seems about right.

I am thinking July! Certainly it is not September! Maybe end of October if not July for new iPads.

As has been mentioned, an iPhone release in September followed by an iPad release in October, with a faster chip, makes sense to me. Isn’t that what they did with original 12.9” Pro model?

Dual cameras on the back, while you are at it Apple. With all the goodies and 480 fps slow-mo.

They'll have to move away from aluminum if they want to use wireless charging—I believe they do—but what they'll use is what I'm wondering. Hopefully not glass like the iPhone. I suspect the "bezel less" iPad will just have smaller/uniform bezels and improved palm rejection.

What about when your using your iPad in landscape mode which is how I use mine a majority of the time then the notch would be irrelevant to the new gesture. By the way the notch on the phone I don't have a problem with at all but on the iPad it really does look ridiculous.

i too use my ipad mostly in landscape and frankly I don't care about having face id etc. they could leave it on touch id and I'm fine.

what I want is a better screen, 4k HDR preferred. i want more storage. i want better sound. i want a wireless charging option for the pencil and maybe even some tip options. and I really really really really really really frakking want a smart keyboard that doesn't die in 2-3 months. I mean sure they have their little coverage program going but FFS I still have to make an appointment etc

if they were going to figure out a way to do under the screen something it would probably be face id. so then it would hopefully work no matter how you hold it.
