Mark my words. They'll find a reason to only permit iPhone 7 and newer to upgrade. Everyone else will have to buy new phones if they want the cool, new features.

Nonsense! Apple goes on a great length to support ancient iPhones It is really hard to moan when even a 5 years old iPhone gets the latest iOS.

But we knew Dark Mode was coming to iOS 13 since somebody said iOS 12 will be just a small update and everything big was postponed until iOS 13.

So iOS 13 has to have a lot of features as iOS 12 didn't really have anything interesting.

Every single time I read something about file management improvements to iOS I get interested. And them dissapointed.

Let's see if this time it is different...

It would make sense if the base color of iOS was black instead of white in the OLED-era. But it will probably be a combination of 49+ shades of grey like on macOS. I was however skeptical of macOS Dark Mode, but I haven't turned it off since I got it...

CarPlay sucks!!!

I purchased a BMW 430xi with the CarPlay option and it is total junk. I disabled CarPlay and use the standard BMW phone/media interface with BMW mapping ... which is FANTASTIC.

Apple should be ashamed of CarPlay, it is total JUNK and the CarPlay maps are a total JOKE.
Yeah, iDrive is pretty awesome. And the 4 series doesn't even have the best version that is going the current 7, 5 and new 3 series.
It's interesting seeing people asking for split screen and other stuff iDrive already does in an elegant way.

You see i've got CarPlay and think its great and works really well. In fact my other half is looking at changing her car just to get one that has CarPlay as she likes using it so much when she uses my car.

Why do rumour sites give Mark Gurman and Bloomberg any credibility?

That said, none of this should be a surprise.

I'd check back in September to see if any of these rumours turned out to be valid and then you'll have your answer.

What are the odds that iOS 13 will still ensure the iPad functions as nothing more than a large iPhone rather than offering a more desktop-centric user experience?

CarPlay is amazing in my VW Golf GTI. Very happy with it. Could it be improved? Yes. But it's far from being junk.

The iPhone came out in June 2007, the concept of a grid of icons would have been there for 12 years by the time iOS13 comes out. It does work though.
My old Nokias and Samsung flip phones prior to the 2007 iPhone release, all had rows of apps, which paved the way for the iOS icon grid we have today.

Oh, I tried it. Didn’t see the point and turned it off within minutes.

Mostly from my Windows years, which means pre 2008 I downloaded Dark Mode themes off and on over the years, as they were frequently listed as the most popular theme on different sites that provided Windows screen layouts. I would usually give them 2 weeks but I never kept them installed. I didn’t see any benefit and frequently there was a huge drawback with programs that didn’t do a form of Dark Mode themselves so they stuck out like a sore thumb and drowned out the other open programs or windows.

Tried Dark Mode on my current iMac desktop after I installed Mojave, once again I left it on for a couple of weeks. I changed it back at the end of that time. Once again, lots of people saying how much of a game changer Dark Mode is and castigating Apple for not having it available.

It’s different (darker) screen background colors with light colored text. If you like it, use it but it’s not new, not revolutionary and not a game changer. It’s customization of how a screen looks, and ultimately it will do little more than adjust screen colors to a different preference.

Someone said Dark Mode on a OLED screen can increase battery life for portable electronics like phones or tablets. If that is true, and it does seem reasonable, then that’s the first physical advantage Dark Mode has, and only on OLED -maybe plasma?- screens.

I like CarPlay, but I would LOVE it if they made split-screen apps possible. I hate having to switch between the music screen and the Maps screen. I don't need a giant interface for both (especially music). It's frustrating when your car's default, built-in home screen can incorporate all that stuff and more, and the "advance" CarPlay system can't.
[doublepost=1548942611][/doublepost]That would make too much sense!

Please let us have something a bit more modern than the same grid of apps that we've had now for fifteen years. Or some such crazy large number...says my old foggy brain.

From reading the BBG article I got the impression that only the iPad would get the revamped homescreen... I think iPhone users are stuck with the same old grid. But who knows.

What cracks me up is when I started in computers, most “real” computers were light text on dark screens. When we finally got dark on light there was much rejoicing.

Apple's iOS 13 operating system, which will likely be previewed this summer at Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference, will include a number of major updates that iOS users have been desiring for years.

According to Bloomberg, iOS 13 will include a dark mode to match the dark mode that was first introduced on macOS with macOS Mojave. It will allow for "easier nighttime viewing."

Improvements to the CarPlay interface are expected, and many iPad-specific upgrades are in the works. Apple will introduce a new Home screen, an option to tab through multiple pages of a single app as you can do in a web browser, and improvements to file management.

Previous rumors have suggested Apple will also introduce a multitasking feature for displaying two windows of the same app side by side, and Apple is expected to expand the availability of its cross-platform apps initiative to developers, making it easier to port apps created for iOS to macOS.

Rumored services that are in the works, including a magazine subscription service in Apple News and a television streaming service, will also come to iOS 13 through updates that will be made available during 2019.

[doublepost=1548943026][/doublepost]Likely to be announced in the summer.. Apple is so predictable! It will be... seriously

iOS needs a funeral like they had for OS 9. It has served its purpose. Time for something for the modern age smartphone, not a Nokia competitor.

Very true. My first computer was a TRS-80 and it was green text on a black screen.

You may be right, but if it isn't pure black you'd miss the advantage of power consumption.
Anyway I have an Xs and tried dark mode on the reader functionality in Safari. I think it looks great but at night I find it painful to my eyes, even more than a white background. I know using the phone in the dark is a bad idea and I tend not to do it, but still I'm not convinced dark mode works in all scenario.
It is great however to have a choice, so I hope dark mode will be available as an option, just like they did on the Mac. You select one and you're done, and you can change your mind at any time.
They won’t do true black because OLED smearing is hideous and, well, look at macOS. Plus, in their view, if you want added iPhone battery life, you’re more than welcome to purchase their wildly expensive battery case.

THeir case is priced competitively with cases of equivalent capability and quality. Name a cheaper case that supports lightning pass through, Qi charging, and integrates with the OS.

I always thought it was just useful for when you're in a low-light situation. I'd find that less useful on my Mac (I'd rather turn the light on if I could) but would be useful on a phone. I don't know why people want to have it enabled all the time - sometimes it will affect the legibility of the content.

Some are good ideas, some require too much cooperation with entities that don’t play well with others, and some I don’t know if it’s a good idea or not.

I don’t see anything technically outrageous, although I’m not sure I trust putting all my personal information into ANYONES system.

As long as it’s a selection, I don’t care if it’s there. I just don’t get the excitement people have had, literally for decades, when a Dark Mode option is announced for any OS, Apple or anyone else’s. I don’t get the excitement about emojis either, so take that into consideration. I don’t care if they exist, but I don’t get the excitement people derive from using them.
