Apple needs to do some HomeKit upgrades. For instance, the ability to add and for Siri to understand device ownership and the ability to limit who can control certain devices. If you and your spouse each have a bedside lamp, saying “turn on/off my bedroom lamp” should result in Siri knowing which lamp I’m talking about.

I'd love for CarPlay to be added as a mode directly on the iPhone's screen. There are still too many car models out there without CarPlay. It would be good if we could clip our iPhone to the dashboard and have it display the simplified interface of CarPlay rather than the full iOS.

Pretty sure Android has this.

My brother does Android and I think he showed me this.

Yes I am very serious because companies like BMW already have a fantastic mobile interface and mapping solution. I think the reason is that BMW has been developing their phone & multi-media interfaces, plus mapping solutions, for over ten years, so they have a huge head start over Apple. For some auto manufacturers, who have not invested over a decade and tens of millions in their own solutions, CarPlay may be a good solution.

I should have been more clear in my criticism, but when I think of the $600 CarPlay option for BMW, I get so mad because it was a huge waste of money compared to BMW's solution. I was the very first person at my BMW dealership to purchase CarPlay and was so excited, but thank goodness BMW provides an option to completely disable the CarPlay option (that they sold me ). Sucks I wasted $600, but the BMW interface has many more features than CarPlay, a much better UI, plus their maps (and their mapping user interface) is 1000% better than CarPlay mapping.

I think it’s completely asinine that BMW charges for CarPlay, a feature they don’t even develop. That’s just gouging, above and beyond BMWs ala carte pricing.

That said, CarPlay shows promise but has really stagnated. To me, what is really holding it back is that any sort of interaction with the system by voice is too slow and has way too much extraneous chatter. How about just simple beeps for yes/no and NO voice confirmation, for example?

I’d like that as a feature too.

Well, if you have an oled phone it could* extend battery life, that’s quite a good bonus. Other than that I think it’s just aesthetic preference. I find iOS looks horrible at night with the retina scorching white everywhere :p

* provided it actually is *black* and therefore the pixels in question are switched off
If it's significant, and on something battery powered, then yes, battery life could be something to be excited about with dark mode. I wasn't kidding about people being excited about this feature on computers. Even desktops. I can't see the saving being that much on a device that isn't running on a battery. And to me, its poTAYto - poTAHto. I don't find a bright background annoying. I really don't get what's EXCITING about dark mode but if it gives you more battery life then go ahead and use it.

If you find out tell me. I’ve heard people talking excitedly about dark modes on computers for decades. It’s light colored text on a dark background. Whooopie.

It’s better for your eyes and saves battery.

Is CarPlay update going to fix the craptastic SiriusXM app?

That’s a piss poor SiriusXM development team. Not CarPlay.

Mark my words. They'll find a reason to only permit iPhone 7 and newer to upgrade. Everyone else will have to buy new phones if they want the cool, new features.
Apple has a 5 year support policy, doesn't it? The 7 came out a mere 2 years ago. I'd say they'd use the 6S as the cutoff.

And in terms of monitors, it eases backlight stress. Which is important on IPS monitors because they log the backlight hours. The less intense the backlight needs to operate via brightness or color output, the longer your whites will remain white, and no yellowing or darkening.

Dark Mode in iOS would be quite useful for iPhone X/XS owners since it'll improve battery life. Those OLED screens suck down more power when displaying white/bright colours.

Dark mode would be cool, but what I REALLY want is a vastly improved Siri who is able to answer my phone calls without ringing my phone to weed out the stupid scammers. Being able to move my widgets to any area on any of my screens instead of being limited to the stupid widget screen would be friggin sweet, too.

Hopefully they will drop all iOS devices that don't support Face ID. That way it will solve Tom's shortfall on selling more devices.

Apple's iOS 13 operating system, which will likely be previewed this summer at Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference, will include a number of major updates that iOS users have been desiring for years.

According to Bloomberg, iOS 13 will include a dark mode to match the dark mode that was first introduced on macOS with macOS Mojave. It will allow for "easier nighttime viewing."

Improvements to the CarPlay interface are expected, and many iPad-specific upgrades are in the works. Apple will introduce a new Home screen, an option to tab through multiple pages of a single app as you can do in a web browser, and improvements to file management.

Previous rumors have suggested Apple will also introduce a multitasking feature for displaying two windows of the same app side by side, and Apple is expected to expand the availability of its cross-platform apps initiative to developers, making it easier to port apps created for iOS to macOS.

Rumored services that are in the works, including a magazine subscription service in Apple News and a television streaming service, will also come to iOS 13 through updates that will be made available during 2019.

Dark mode is a good macrumor I hope turns out to be true.

Saved battery power to be had using dark mode.

I just hope they don't take a step backwards in performance, as compared to iOS12, in order to promote upgrades.

Seems like the cutoff is 5 years. End of the line for 5S on IOS 12. I think the iphone 6 and newer should get ios 13.
6 came out in April or Jun 2014. I'm not totally sure if they would. It'd be nice if they did.

My point is that in the late 1990’s to, say around 2005 ‘Dark Mode’ themes were a big deal on plug in desktops. And actually that never died out with desktops, it’s just grown to include laptops, tablets and phones.
