iPhones don't come with USB-C. This is the reason they're still shipping chargers with the iPads, because they have USB-C.

Regarding earbuds, people are going wireless. It's going fast.
The new iPhones are rumored to come with lightning to USB-C cables.

About people going wireless, that only supports Apple's actual intention to push people into buying Airpods, not saving the environment.

I don't think it's a problem if the price reflects the reduction in accessories. In 2020, who doesn't have many headphones, earphones or chargers?

So are Bluetooth devices (AirPods) similar RF exposure to plug in headphones?
It depends on how much RF is carried through the wires of a wired headphones. (However, I still use my lightning connected earpods on occasion as I have at least 4 extra pair that haven't been opened, not including the one that came with my phone. But if someone wants wired, they can get all hooked up fairly quickly and inexpensively assuming no wired headphones or dongles.)

Oh no, you don’t get to give them a pass. If not supplying EarPods is an issue, then it’s an issue.

You giving Samsung a pass negates your argument.

What are you talking about? I don’t give Samsung the pass. I expect dumb **** from them so I DON’T buy their ****. Doesn’t matter which company. If you do nonsense it will be called nonsense.

So let me get this straight: no earbuds, no charger, raised prices (allegedly) by $100. No need features (except 5G). Who’s going to buy this turd, during Covid times no less?

“That’s it! They don’t include another worthless charger that I’ve already got a drawer full of, I’m not buying that turd of a phone!”

This is really the hill you folks choose?

If apple or any mobile phone providers actually gave a damn about the environment they wouldn't bring out many new models every single year. They care about money first and last. If they can sell you the idea that they actually care about the environment then their PR dept is doing its job.

no one needs a 5w charging brick or EarPods. I'm glad Apple removed them so that they can spend some of the extra money saved in other areas of the product. people who think Apple is simply pocketing the extra money that was saved by not including these extra accessories are likely wrong.

The charging brick yes. I would say they should include a higher wattage charger as most normal people have no idea they can charge their phone faster. Definitely disagree on headphones. You’re on a macrumors forum vs. the real world where most people use earbuds and they wear out over time.

For every person who needs an adaptor, I bet there are 5-10 who do not. We have now been through over well 10 years of smart phone ownership where many people trade in their old phone to Apple or their carrier when they upgrade. Most carriers don’t require the power adaptor at trade in. So, people keep accumulating adaptors. I believe the net effect is positive, even if the way Apple is going about it is lousy from a PR perspective. Apple could easily solve that problem by giving people who actually need an adaptor a voucher or discount if they buy at the same time as the phone.

Absolutely. I'm looking at my cable bins right now. (A long time in IT has me always keep around cables till they break.) There are two pairs of Apple headphones in there (and that's the non broken ones), and 3 Apple chargers that aren't powerful enough for the current phones or iPads.

With all the devices in our house, we never use a single-jack charger. Anywhere we're going to plug into a transformer we've got a multi-port device. Which means that if three people are connected and pulling power, there's only one device doing power for all three, instead of three devices. I'm not expert on electrical engineering but I have to imagine that three transformers for three devices pulls more juice than one transformer for three devices?

Why not allow an opt-in option? What about those who are first time iPhone buyers coming over from Android? There should be courtesy chargers and earpods available.

I’ve had countless iPhones over the years and now when I come to find the bloody earbuds, they’ve all vanished!

How is this reducing packaging and environmental waste if I have to order a power supply or headphones from someone else and they have to ship it to me in a separate box through a separate carrier as part of a separate transaction?

I'm so tired of this feel-good nonsense that doesn't actually have a net positive at all. In fact, it's a net negative. Well done Tim.
Speak for yourself. I never used the EarPods and have a third-party charger plug for years. Heck, I live in Europe and purchase all my iDevices in the US, so the bricks are always useless.

With this I'm not saying price should remain the same though. But given that prices are actually reduced, I fully agree with taking those things out.

You don’t, though. You already have a power adapter. You already have a pair of headphones.
