How is this reducing packaging and environmental waste if I have to order a power supply or headphones from someone else and they have to ship it to me in a separate box through a separate carrier as part of a separate transaction?

I'm so tired of this feel-good nonsense that doesn't actually have a net positive at all. In fact, it's a net negative. Well done Tim.
Because you might, but millions of other customers won’t, as they already have other headphones and power adaptors.

Fine by me. I haven’t touched bundled headphones since I received my iPhone 4. Most of us have better equipment, or, (perhaps more), don’t even use them to begin with.

This makes more sense to me than excluding the power adapter. I wish that Apple would include the power adapter in the box if they have to remove the EarPods from it.
They both make sense to exclude. It is 2020 (almost 2021) most people have headphones they like (if they even use them), and have some way of charging a USB powered device. This isn’t the early USB or iPod era anymore.

The only thing I would suggest to Apple, is to provide a free “if requested” set of headphones and power bricks for those that may want / need them.

Because USB charging is widely available in many 3rd party products, along with the previous Apple devices you've owned. Lost and Found collection points for colleges, mass transit, have TONS of these things laying around.
THAT'S WHY.

i can see why there's frustration with apple, but at the same time I don't need new headphones, much less a new power brick. i have a whole bag of old ones plus more powerful third-party bricks with multiple ports. To me, it makes sense.

not to mention, if they eventually move to USB-C, youd be able to use other mac and ipad chargers, or buy third party, which works great as well.

Works for me. I certainly don't need another pair of EarPods going to landfill. Hat-tip to Apple!
Great, then also reduce the price by the combined amount they're selling said accessories at. But we all know that probably won't happen. There’s also very little environmentally-friendly about the AirPods’ glued together design so maybe they wanna take a look at that too.

There doesn't need to be 200 million new EarPods being released out into the world every year... when only a tiny tiny percentage of people actually use them.

If you use them... you've probably already got some.

And if you don't use them... see my first statement... :)

Regular 3.5 mm AirPods are something you can't really have enough of, like fingernail clippers. I'd love to have a pair lying around at this very moment to grab.

Lightning AirPods I think I probably used once. But that's because I use my laptop for most things and my phone for very little compared to the average person.

I'm not sure how much this will reduce pollution. I think it will probably drive people to buy more wireless headphones, which seem much more wasteful with the non-replaceable batteries. Plus it's another box and another shipment.

And it's not as if sound quality improvements in headphones merits frequent upgrading.

Don't think I have used the earpods since 4 or the boxed charger since wireless charging. So makes no difference to me and I am sure to many people. But Apple is not going to give us the benefit of removing them in terms of price.

I am fairly sure when you go to buy the phone it will ask, do you need a charger or earpods/airpods and offer to sell you them so nobody is going to end up with a phone and no way to charge it or have something for your ears, will just cost more.

I will never plug anything into a USB port that I don't own or control. Ever.

A wall outlet yes, but a USB port. Never ever.
