Also, stop dumbing it down. Background multitasking time limit used to be 7 minutes with iOS <=6, down to 3 minutes for iOS 7 thru 12 and now 30 seconds for iOS 13.

Does this explain Safari tabs not staying in RAM like the used to; having to reload more often?

Springboard needs almost an entire overhaul. So old and tired. And not meant for current needs. Please Apple find some way to honor Steve and do something truly innovative with Springboard.

This is a totally believable rumor. Apple is finally starting to allow more customization with iOS, and they’re catching up with features like ‘dark mode’, But I think it would really make it more of an enjoyable experience with iOS if they allow the user to customize widgets and specific wallpapers to their liking.

I managed to survive without these features for years. I hope it will be included in the final release, I now realise I can't live without it. Boy, I can now complete my silly life ;)!

2020 and Apple still trying to figure out customization of the home and lock screen. I decided to jump ship here in 2020 and feel much better about it.
Or you could look at it like this...

They launched so far ahead of their time in June 2007 that their home screen is still competitive in the market in 2020. Truly impressive if you think about it. Brilliant design even if apple tweaks details now and again or you feel “tired” of a design.

The only thing I want Apple to bring from android is to make things easier to get done. Some basic things are just bonkers, off the tip of my head, like deleting multiple contacts quickly. Making sure you’re getting your notifications ringing. A whole bunch of little things.

So, Apple removes Dashboard from Catalina, says third party devs. can't add widgets to iPhone, but then Apple does it to Home screen themselves anyway?

Makes sense.. in a weird sorta App-ley way.

As long as they don’t slow down the phone like they clearly do on android. I’m sure apple will do it so you can’t add loads....

not much is missing on iPhone now from android...spilt screen and picture in picture. Not much else

If only we could arrange app icons freely been hoping for this ever since the App Store was introduced. Does google have a patent on it or something.

things Apple needed to „copy“ from Android a long time ago:

Home screen customizations like these from the actual home screen!

Pick your own Apps for the lock screen (Not just the camera and the flash light). The camera is especially stupid since you can do the same by swiping. Maybe even steal ideas from the Apple Watch to make the lock screen more useful and offer Always On.

Notification Banner for calls. No one needs the freaking huge screen stopping everything else when a call comes in (if you chose to use it)

change default apps to make the EU happy

What’s also interesting is that the leak does not show the notch in the wallpaper selector. 🤔 this would surely help selecting / adjusting the wallpaper properly?

I just love Apple strategy. Hardware is not going to be that much more impressive in the next 3-5 years, but software ... Apple will prop that up big time in the coming years.

You make no sense.

With one exception. Pixel 4 is a mediocre with no resale value.
Pixel 4 basically has a great camera...But if camera is all that matters get a real camera.

Yeah I guess welcome additions for those who like that sort of thing, but I hope Apple doesn’t make a huge marketing song and dance about these iOS 14 “features” as that would be utterly embarrassing.

Sigh. And your point? The more Apple gives us “features Android had since forever,” the less reason to own an Android device. At this point, Android users are running out of reasons to not own an iPhone. Every year that list gets smaller & smaller.
Not really, Android notifications are still years ahead of anything apple can do, assistant is integrated way better on Android and again years ahead of siri. Just because apple adopts features of Android doesn't mean people need to get an iPhone. Not everyone likes the iPhone and you sound absolutely ridiculous for even making that statement.

I get people are going to slate Apple for still not having widgets, but hey when you buy a android phone it tends to stay on that version of software with a very slim chance you will see any updates.

You buy a iPhone and know you will get at least 4 years worth of software updates on time every time so you can always have the latest software..... I know which I’d prefer to be fair.

This is something I’ve been thinking they should do since I owned my first iPod touch. Of course they’re way behind android on this. What would be really cool is if they made it so you can adjust the size of widgets for different apps. Sizes based on how many app icons worth of space you want it to take up on your home screen. Then let developers adjust how much info they want displayed on their apps’ widgets. For example a weather app could show the whole ten day forecast if you expand the widget to take up a 4x2 icon space, or you can have it take up just a 1x2 icon space to show just the current temp. I think that would be super cool. Would really make the DATED iPhone home screen look a million times better and much more functional too.
That’s what I was thinking. You long press the app icon and get an option to change Widget Size. Give a few choices like 1x1, 1x2, 1x4 and 2x4 - this way developers can decide exactly what information will be shown at what size, kind of like the different Apple Watch complications. I would love this!

Please for the love of god bring back 3D Touch!” Haptic touch is horrendous. I hate having to press the space bar to move the cursor when I could’ve pressed anywhere on the keyboard with 3D Touch to move the cursor. I do also agree with someone mentioning the keyboard trying to over predict what you type and picking letters directly next to the letter you actually are trying to use. I’ve always been a small phone kind of guy always getting the smaller incarnation of every iPhone that released, but because of my keyboard frustrations I’m convinced I need the iPhone 12 Pro Max and so on going forward as it has become too difficult to type and text and enjoy it on the 11 pro.

This is needed most in macOS! Think Dashboard replacement but with native, fast SwiftUI widgets instead of using web technology.

I’ve never understood the appeal or usefulness of widgets. They look cool, but that’s it. It’s quicker to just open the app instead. I have that widgets page enabled on my iPhone, but I hardly use it for everything I’ve put on there. I also had a windows phone and didn’t really use the live tiles, as I opened up the app anyway.

I already have a XS Max. And $515 USED vs $435 NEW, well do the math. Ever try Android? You should. In fact, ALL IPhone users should try Android sometime. I've owned both style phones for 10 years. My take is this: Nova Prime on iOS 14. Think of it...
Having done tech support for Android, no thank you. Between trying to figure out what version of the OS they're on (rarely the current, usually 2 updates back), what crap they have added to the phone, the jink the manufacturer added to the phone, and the stuff the phone company added to the phone ... 9 times out of 10 it would be restore to factory settings first

You’d think that but Android continues to push innovative features to the OS, so iOS always feels behind even when they bring one of the features into iOS.

I’m only on iOS due to the ecosystem and not iOS as an OS that is for sure. Some things just puzzle me when it comes to Apple, like how only recently they fixed the obnoxious volume control UI that used to cover the screen...

The only change I want is to be able change the ‘anchor’ of the icons to any of the four corners. The icons starting in the top left corner is ergonomically the absolute worst place for a right handed person, especially on a bigger device. All this other stuff reminds me of Android, which I used for nearly 4 years and don’t miss.
