No it is not. One of the main advantages of Apple is that you get at least 5 years of update support.

Having to buy a new phone just to run the new OS sounds like Android hell.

I love having the latest and greatest when the beta 2 of iOS hits months in advance.

My iPhone X is still running iOS 13 like a champ. And my 7 Plus ran iOS 12 well too. I skipped the XS generation and held onto my X and 7 Plus realizing that those two phones combined were better than one XS, and I sold my 7 Plus to help fund the 11 Pro Max.

I’d happily keep this combination for the next year. Starting with the 7 series, I feel like Apple finally started making iPhones with longevity in mind. I feel really bad for all the people who still have 6 and 6S’s though. Those phones were so flawed!

I may have to hold up for once, as one who always installs the latest update I was seriously burnt on IOS 13 with my iCloud mail not working too well. I'll look forward to hearing about how great this update is and then pull the trigger.

This will ease the late announcement of new iPhones: people will have a new iPhone experience tomorrow with iOS 14, making our current phones feel fresh & new for a while. Waiting until October for new iPhones (with availability probably in November / December) won't feel quite as bad :)

I have the public beta of ios 14. will it update my watch too, or would I need to enroll that separately?

You'd need a profile on each device. Tomorrow everything will be allowed to update. The watch is done through the watch app on the iPhone I believe.

iOS 14 GM just showed up for my iPhone X. I haven't been running the WatchOS 7 betas, so I don't expect to see that yet.

Apple today announced that iOS 14, iPadOS 14, watchOS 7, and tvOS 14 will be officially released on Wednesday, September 16.

macOS 11 isn't in the list but based on how unstable the public beta still is, I am not surprised

Why is everyone on MacRumors losing their minds today and acting like screaming toddlers? There is NOTHING normal about 2020 - you have to expect that the release schedule of Apple is completely upside down, due to you know - the global pandemic..

Give them a break... I recognize it wasn't everything everyone wanted in a perfect Apple world, but the world is upside and everyone is doing their best, including Apple.

This absolutely exactly. What in the world am I reading, people are acting like childish brats just because things are slightly different this year?? It’s a worldwide pandemic, I wouldn’t be shocked if they had said no new devices at all

Let the tech lovers test iOS 14 for any bugs to be worked out further.
The rest of us will patiently wait for iOS 14.1 before upgrading.

I could swear that they release a new major version of iOS every year around my birthday. Nothing has changed.

It used to be that major developers weren't ready anyway because they didn't seem to do any testing until it went live. It seemed to take another month for certain software to be available on mobile devices.

Apple bubble break and people are feeling being pissed off.
The rule of thumb: never blindly believe any PR bs and advertisement. Use ur eyes and brain to get the message behind what they tell you.

Cool. I was hoping this would be released ASAP...thinking Friday or next Tues.
Still...I'll be waiting to install this.

Checking here, other sites to see if there are major concerns, bugs.

It is SO entertaining reading all these messages from people who never should have been using the beta asking how they get off the beta and onto the release. Don't they KNOW? They think they should have been running the beta, after all.

Myself, I have the tvOS profile installed, so mine won't install before I let it. When 14.1 or more likely 14.2 comes out will be more than soon enough.

Feeling bad for all the devs. Excited as an end user though!

24 hours for the GM to bake in though isn't long. Hopefully we don't start seeing a bunch of bricked iPhones.

No, most people on forums like this like to stay on the bleeding edge of tech. Running a brand new OS on a year old phone is crap. Apple screwed up. People still rocking their 4 year old iPhones might not care, but plenty of us do.

Come on, it’s not the end of the world. You’re acting as if the 11 Pro is 6 years old! Personally I’m looking forward to iOS 14 on my 11 Pro.

You can install the final version of iOS 14 now if you like. Golden Master is what will be released to the public tomorrow.

Steps:

1. Download beta profile from beta.apple.com.
2. Install beta profile via settings app.
3. Software update.
4. Delete profile when done and reboot.
