So we’ve got a public release, I will ask and forgive my ignorance on this, but I know the HomePod OS is basically tvOS, so in theory does that mean the HomePod will get its update aswell?

Seen on another site - New Watch Faces are "not Apple Watch 6 exclusives?" - Series 4 and 5 will have these with OS7
That's darn good news

Here's a thought.. Recognize that the world is upside down right now due to a major pandemic and that sometimes disrupts things... Seriously - SMH..
But why release the new iOS though? I’m honestly curious. The current version is perfectly fine. Why release it september and not November or even August, for example? Ipad now has its own OS, so why the rush?

I'm so excited! I need to get this update right away. I will also reset my iPhone before upgrading like I always do every year. It's nice to start clean so I won't miss anything.

If anything, this upgrade will be a breath of fresh air to my "old" iPhone 7 that still functions perfectly.

I went right up to B7 on my iPhone X/sprint and iPad 10.5 pro ... I had to revert to 13 ... I cannot imagine in 1 more beta release that iapple addressed the issues I had

My iPhone X is still running iOS 13 like a champ. And my 7 Plus ran iOS 12 well too. I skipped the XS generation and held onto my X and 7 Plus realizing that those two phones combined were better than one XS, and I sold my 7 Plus to help fund the 11 Pro Max.

I’d happily keep this combination for the next year. Starting with the 7 series, I feel like Apple finally started making iPhones with longevity in mind. I feel really bad for all the people who still have 6 and 6S’s though. Those phones were so flawed!

iPhone 7-11?

I recommend not update to iOS 14 until most developer update their app.
This will be a tough week for all developers including myself.

We need GM Xcode a week before the release instead of a day before the release.

Did you get the golden master or you are waiting until tomorrow?

Really looking forward to this. I've been reading a lot about the Betas and I promised myself I would wait till the official release. I'm excited to see what it looks like and figure out how the whole widget thing works.

What have developers been doing with the various betas then. They had, what, 8 chances to see what this new IOS was about and maybe update the apps accordingly. I get what you are saying about this is very sudden for developers, but I see it as they have had 2 months to figure out how to optimize their app for the new IOS.

YEAHHH BABY. Couldn't wait for iOS 14 all summer (didnt want to get unstable betas so did not download), and now having it come in just one day (without the usual 1 week desperate wait) is amazing. Well done apple.

Developers have been building and testing their Apps against the various betas. They have also been filing feedback about the bugs they have found.

But, just testing against betas is not enough. With each new build, including the GM, Apple can fix bugs, but they can introduce new bugs as well. Before any developer introduces their "iOS14 ready" app to the App Store, they will want to test their app one more time and make sure Apple didn't break something. Giving them one day for testing is not enough.

Also, Apple does not allow Apps to be uploaded to the App Store using the latest APIs until a GM is released for both the OS and Xcode. So, App developers have to wait until the officlal release of Xcode12 to submit Apps with iOS features. Another a round of building and testing is necessary.

By giving developers only a day, we are NOT going to see many iOS 14 optimized Apps for a few days to a few weeks.

I think developers are overreacting. (I am a developer myself for enterprise apps) I use a ton of apps ranging from games, work apps, banking apps, payment etc and all my apps are working without issues since beta 5 or 6. Usually I have a lot more problems so I think Apple mostly enhanced their APIs instead of changing them. That is why they are probably confident releasing iOS14 already so soon.

The only iOS14 specific features that probably need a lot more development time are widgets. But developers had months of time for that now if they wanted.

The GM build is beta 8 which launched last week. And new iOS releases have been released mid september for more than 10 years now. It is baffling to see everyone so very surprised they are doing the same as they have been doing for 10+ years now

The update still isn't showing for me. Do you think I can force the update through iTunes? I'll try later.

Of course they are. I’ve been running the ios14 beta on my iPhone XR. It’s fast and relatively few bugs over the course of the beta test, comparatively.

I’m still trying to figure out what others do with their iPhones that they think they have to have a new phone with each OS update. I do all of the standard productivity work, sign docs, scan and upload docs, modify images, minor video editing, and even Remote Desktop for some tasks. My iPhone isn’t a slouch at any of this.

I’m here to tell you, as a power user, iOS 14 works great on an iPhone that isn’t got off the drawing board.

Wow I just read the Verge article showing Apple dropped a logging API in GM so any apps using it have to change code. That's some really awesome dev love right there.
