This testifies to how marginal and not innovative this new software is
Apple's new iOS 15 operating system is compatible with all of the iPhones that are able to run iOS 14, including the original iPhone SE, the iPhone 6s, and the iPhone 6s Plus.
Apple's list of compatible devices confirms that iOS 15 works with all of these iPhones:

Wow not even this rumor got it right. This is the keynote with the least accurate rumors...
imagine you bought a new iPad Pro today and it is running the same handicapped OS as an iPad Air from 2014 (?)

I bought an iPad Air 2 in 2015, and then sold it later thinking it was getting long in the tooth and might not get that many more OS updates. That was in 2017, 4 years ago. Lol.
iPad Air 1 had an A7 chip with 1GB of ram IOS 12 is the highest you can upgrade
iPad Mini 4 is the oldest supported device with an A8 + 2GB Ram
iPhone 6s has an A9 + 2GB Ram
Take that iPhonesoft you idiots
and by the way Apple TV HD is still sold in stores and has same A8 and RAM as Mini 4 so it’s not surprising even Mini 4 will get the update

Given how many machine learning features were in iOS 15, I'm quite surprised they didn't drop anything pre-A11. I'm a little less surprised that iPadOS minimum system requirements didn't change, but iPadOS seems to be one year behind the iOS in terms of marquee feature-sets. I'm still surprised that A8 based devices are still being supported. That seems a little nuts. But, assuming it doesn't run poorly on it, iPad Air 2 users will certainly be getting really good mileage.

This is awesome! I get another year with the 1st gen SE.
Just because it's available for all previous devices does not mean all features work on all older devices. For instance, many Siri and other features only work on newer devices.
They sold them for aaages refurbished (as in like only stopped in the last couple of years) so nice to see them stand by those who bought them late cycle!
Idk why people think this is some amazing thing supporting 8 year old phones. It forces developers to create for the least common denominator……..an 8 year old product. good for consumers, not so great for innovation
Ha! Stoked for this. We have more Air 2s and 5th gen iPads deployed in our school district than I'd like to think about – happy they get to be current for another year

Seems my iPhone 12 Pro and M1 iPad investments will be the best I'd made since my 17" MBP (hopefully).
