Health is an interface onto a managed, permission-controlled database. Food tracking is likely _support_ for logging food information into that database, and not an attempt to a strong first-party food logging interface.

IOS needs a way to "select all" attachments in iMessages to deal with them. It's insidious that it requires you to one-by-one export pictures/attachments in order to preserve icloud or storage space.
I don't use the Photos app, I actually use Lightroom on my MAC, when I airdrop my photos from the iPhone photos app to my MAC, it also copies the photos attached to messages to my MAC, way easier to manage there. I do this at least once per month, selecting all photos within a timeframe. just thought I would share ...

Unverified source? Aka, like how I could say x is coming to iOS 15 and it could be picked up on MacRumors? I would love to see a replacement to MFP, since that product keeps getting sold to other companies and while it's the most robust database by far, it still doesn't support dark mode, and features remain stagnant. Since it sounds like this is just wishful thinking rather than any time of real source, assume it's someone just wishing/hoping, but even if is true, if it's in the Health App, that would almost certainly mean it's just being able to manual enter data which while better than nothing certainly won't be helpful to 99% of people using MFP. If it's a new dedicated app, that would be amazing but only as good and accurate as the database. And while they may partner with large brands, like Apple Maps imagine it could take countless years to catch up unless they actually buy MFP's database. MFP is great since I can go to even a small faire and the even the muffins there are in MFP, it's crazy how large the database is. The app LifeSum is a million times more modern and fun to use, but poor database in comparison.

Would love to have food logging in the health app to go side by side with work out data to get a better picture of health. Getting notifications on my watch of how many calories I’ve eaten during the day and how much is left to reach my goal would be great

I am also very surprised with the lack of details on iOS 15, iPadOS 15, and macOS 12. Hopefully that means they have some big stuff in store and have been really holding it close to the chest to maximize the wow factor.

That actually likely means there are few big changes. Hopefully I'm wrong...

I’m logging my food intake since the pandemic began, 400 days and counting, with MyFitnessPal.

I went from 99kg to 81.5kg without having to “diet” one single day… awesome feature to include in iOS.

wow. This is big folks.

Remember the AI and ML figures apple touted? Remember the Lidar sensor?

Together apple could make a revolutionary food tracking system. Not only could the camera identify what food it is (ie chicken) but it could also detect it’s mass with LIDAR.

a simple picture of a plate could read out full nutritional information.

... how does that work for anything that isn’t highly processed food?
Apps like Lose It can track fresh foods as well as packaged foods. With fresh foods, you enter the name of the food and if it isn't some rare food, you should be able to find it in the database, If not, you can manually enter the caloric specifics about the food. Even with fresh foods, many of the containers come with a barcode identifier.
