Nope, enough with the tracking.. I don’t trust Apple nor App vendors who want to track my every move, sleep habits, food intake, medicine, books I read, stores I visit, and everything else that’s none of their business.! Sure, it may be disassociated data but that’s data out of my control. Even though Apple provided anti-tracking option I still believe this data mining still goes on without my knowledge. The only sure way to stop this tracking business is to turn off the smart phone, disconnect the PC’s from the internet and never use them again… But, then again I’m sure there are sophisticated algorithms that will accurately predict what I’m going to do, where I’m gonna go, what I’m gonna eat, and what I need based on data already collected… Gheeeeesh.. the Twenty-First Century….

“I still believe.”

Your belief doesn’t make it true. Apple has no access to the health data on your device. It’s encrypted, with keys that Apple does not have.

Oh that’s cool, then I can delete myfitnesspal. Then I’m sure an antitrust lawsuit will be filed 🙄
I wouldn't be too surprised. A little coincidence, but I actually just signed up for myfitnesspal yesterday and it seems that most of the apps features are locked behind a paid subscription. If Apple provides the same functionality for free and built into iOS I think myfitnesspal might be looking at quite a few cancelled subscriptions.

I think you might be getting a bit too hung up on the word "tracking" due to its negative connotation with an invasion of privacy. This is only "tracking" in the same sense that you would store any other useful data (reminders are tracking your day, notes are tracking your thoughts, etc.). We're probably just talking about entering calorie and macronutrient data for your diet so that you can keep track of how many calories you have left for the day to meet your weight goals, or keep track of carbs, protein, fats, etc.

Health app is over the top; just let us remove home bar and split screen

I LOVE the health app!

Having food content value as part of the app means UnderArmor’s MyFitnessPal (A great app for those watching their health) a solid iOS contender!

In the last week alone using:
Dumbbells, skipping rope, walking (and what Marvin Gaye would say is sexual healing ;) )
MyFitnessPal
and better food intake … I’ve lost 10 kg in 2wks - 97Kg to 87Kg. Not easy for me (be it at 21 or now that I’m more than double that age).

I still look great but now I FEEL great.

Like one’s career, financial health, your physical and mental health is key to enjoying your life.

Food tracking as part of Health would be terrific, as it's a big missing component. The sync between MyFitnessPal and Apple Fitness/Health is... problematic at times.

AHA! Likewise I’ve found this as well and fully agree. Glad someone else sees the positives.

Apple COULD add this into their ResearchKit to gather more information with universities with symptoms to:
High Blood Pressure,
Cardiac Arrest,
Arithmia
and more critically (with Watch 7 blood glucose measuring) - could find out keys that lead to diabetes in otherwise healthy people that do not have a family history of this disease.

MORE critically, those like my mother who’s tenacious in battling diabetes for over 20yrs (type 2) this would help her regulate her blood sugar and energy levels! I’d migrate her over to Apple Watch SE 2 and iPhone SE 2 in a heart beat!

As a bit over 4 months Apple Watch user, I think a complications based Lock Screen would rock. Quick glance of information (a la widgets), tap it to go to the application itself.

Now, since the Apple Watch kidnapped my wrist I stopped using RunKeeper, the native workouts app does the job. RunKeeper gets stuck, sucks the battery life of the watch and it’s ugly/bloated to look at in general. Not a bad one, just less convenient for me. With the food tracking, I guess MyFitnessPal will go away too... seeing a trend here, is this grounds for “yet another lawsuit™️”?

Damn! That’s quite the feat.
Sometimes I manage to lose 1kg in a week and then recover half of it the next one because I lax the rules.

Nevertheless, good job, I have been a chubby kid all my teenage years and can totally relate how hard it can be to fight this. At currently 36, managed to be comfortably out of obesity, however a week of not keeping an eye out on food, even with daily exercise, can undo quite some progress.

In any case, keep it going 💪

Dark mode tweaks are pretty interesting especially on the verge of the Mini-LED backlight iPad. Would make sense to tweak a lot of the pitch black apps and make them more grey black to mitagate perceived blooming artifacts against a complete inky black background..

I’d never use my time to type about what I’m eating throughout the day, everyday. It seems to be like it’s work and it’s feeding a big data for free.

Good one. Maybe for that reason people are seeing blooms on the new iPad 12.9?

That hand washing thing is kind of questionable to me, indeed. But obviously people do use it, so it is something useful.

As for the food tracking: I am surprised to see a lot of people, who do not know, what they eat (...3 BigMacs are kind of ok) Show these people might really help them, because there is no proof of what they do, unless it is in a list.

I do not have to use it, It is not disturbing me, just beeing there as an option. Someone might finally discover, what is going on, regarding daily - eehm - intake...
The hand washing toggle was fine in the beginning. I think it was horrible to add words after it’s done “good job” etc wtf. Less is more!

There are a lot of dark mode UI elements in iOS that are pitch black for no reason, especially the clock app where the LED blooming is noticeable. Its such a dark void of space in that app that it makes no sense to need to have it be pitch Black. Honestly they’re better off with going with more Off Black tones like this forum for instance. It’ll mitigate a ton of complaints with blooming and technically make it more in line with the older iPads since those displays can’t even reach a close to pure black background Like the new 12.9 inch and their blacks are more grey black like this forum Is in dark mode.

It might just be me but I preferred the old design of the health app. Adding more to the health app feature wise is great.

as Apple has now officially entered the health space with Apple fitness +. Food tracking is the next logical step. They already have majority of the legwork done. They just need a food database.

Please include and "Auto" rotate feature for the screen. Not just lock or unlock. If Auto is on when the gyroscope sensor senses a rotation it could trigger the Face ID sensors to look at the orientation of your eyes and Auto align the screen to them. I've been waiting this for years and I still don't understand why nobody did it yet.

What would be more useful for many Americans is a fast food tracker - for example to open up a route in Apple Maps to the nearest Popeyes when you double push the crown on the watch. Maybe show a preview of the menu enroute, and have preset orders that can airdrop to the register upon arrival.

It would be great if Apple masters this challenge. This would be a great liberation for all diabetics:

if the camera identifies the ingredient of a meal and 3D-LIDAR recognition can also estimate the volume, AI algorithms could surpass the experience and estimations of these people, serve data to react appropriate.
I trust only Apple to be able and willing to solve this complex food database-software/hardware task.

All the scoffers and self-centered here at MacRumors:
There are people who actually need this data, please don't get catty or polemical.

Current Apps (Calorie Mama etc) are still far too inaccurate because one could not invest enough capital and recruit brainpower to make them fit for medical purpose.

I envision it working like this: Apple uses the camera to scan your food and ML to identify it, and the LIDAR to take a volumetric scan to determine how much you’re eating. From there it can estimate caloric intake.
This would be so imprecise that Apple is never going to do that.
