Many things are good... but some I plain hate.
The globe is ever present. Zoom out to just see half of the US, or Europe and it shows curvature. You slide your finger in a straight line from right to left, but as a result of the map being a globe it pans with a curve.

Also, as a result of more detailed maps you cannot see or find things easily. Just look at this example Macrumors showed themselves. It's way harder to see the regions "Atacama", "San Juan", and especially the borders.

It's even worse in Europe!
You cannot really make out the names of the countries clearly, even worse the borders.
At this zoom level curvature starts. And I hate the new color palette Apple is using.

To me, these are all steps in the WRONG direction. And before anyone says anything I'm a HUGE proponent of Apple Maps and from day 1 said Apple Maps>Google Maps. To the point where I agree with Scott Forstall to NOT apologize.

Still waiting for the in-map review system to go live that came out with 14.5 instead of Yelp integration.
It‘s been there since iOS 14.0 beta days, it‘s just HEAVILY locked down to probably a handful of users out there.

I think there was an article about it a year ago that outlined how it works and where it‘s available (there‘s a privacy policy for it on Apples site that lists the countries this is being trialed in).
Like you can‘t just click a random POI and rate it, your device needs to have a physical check-in (something like Significant Locations in Privacy settings or a purchase via Apple Pay) to prevent abuse.

They are probably nowhere close to building their POI database for this to be rolled out properly, but it‘s getting there. Locations I report in my country sometimes get added as barebones POI not tied to any POI provider like Yelp.

Also: be happy you just have Yelp. Germany is still on vanilla Maps version and has 4-5 POI providers on a single street… it‘s a gigantic mess and literally means Apple Maps is still dead on arrival here. Google Maps just kills it with fire for anything POI related, it‘s not even close.

Pretty much none of this is working for me in the current beta. You can’t even get into 3D mode (using two fingers to pan vertically just scrolls at present). Intriguingly you can get 3D when viewing the map in Find My, which I would guess means they’ve not updated it yet to use the latest map.

I am anticipating using this improvement. My wife used to have the GPS in her Volvo, but in 2020 that was now an option after the lease. Rather than spend 1200 to put one on, the phone app will be great. I used to use Garmin before any of us used an app and it was detailed, much like the preview above. So When we are on the road, I am looking forward to this app. Hoping it comes out soon with no glitches. They should try it out in Northern Michigan in the upper penninsula, where gps units go bonkers.
You’re not in the Bay area. In northern Michigan you will get what I get in Florida. Yesterday I set Amelia Island as a destination and was presented with a map of upper Sweden.

All welcomed improvements. My biggest gripe in the past was when you'd search for a local spot and it would instantly route out a location 2000 miles away. Any search improvements is a big plus. One thing Google Maps still does better is planning out sensible alternative routes. Apple Maps seem to be dead set on one particular path that may split up into 3 but are essentially all the same route. Google gives you 3 unique ways to get somewhere all the time which I prefer.

Amazing, if you happen to live in one of the nine countries of the world covered by Apple Maps. If you are elsewhere in the world, Apple Maps can vary between being “adequate” or “meh”. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I love the amount of detail Apple have given to each zebra crossing, though, an art at its finest! /s

3D works fine for me. Make sure you’ve zoomed in enough.

I wonder how many cities that Apple can update in Maps per year to include that additional detail? That might be faster than doing the Look Around feature.

Gorgeous. I use the map in my Tesla for driving. I sure wish Tesla would let you use Apple Maps (although I totally get why they don't).

I drove 1500 miles over the past week to attend a funeral. Primarily interstate driving. I used iOS 15 Public Beta for the entire trip down (750 one way). Overall a vast improvement. The traffic slowdowns seemed to be more spot on than even cursory glances at google maps.

Two areas I still feel could use improvement: multi-stop trips and search within the app. If I wanted to detour to a gas station or restaurant off the interstate, it stopped my entire trip. Also, search within the app was horrible. Instead of being able to search for quick stops for food along my route, it seemed to show me only non-chain, local restaurants. While I can appreciate that sentiment if I am visiting a city and looking for somewhere unique and local, sometimes you need a quick stop along the route. Or the ability to search for the name of your go-to quick stop.

Overall, great improvements but still room to grow.

It's probably unimportant for most, but am I the only one annoyed that on the demo images, the latest version is on the left and the old version is on the right? I would definitely have put it the other way around.

Thanks for listening to my lecture.

Great. I like new features. Now, if they would only fix my address (wrong city/village name—the imprint of the village name on the map itself is correct; the businesses and school nearby are named correctly, but my house—nada—it uses a village name that is 10 miles away). I've only been asking ever since they introduced Apple Maps. Why have a report error feature if it the error is never fixed. 11 years of asking many times seems like enough to get this little fix done. Maybe the problem is elsewhere, in a different Apple app. I know the error affects other things. I've had people confused, looking for an address that doesn't exist in a village 10 miles away.

FYI, Google had the same error, but fixed it before the launch of Apple Maps.
