Waze is still miles better, apple maps doesn’t show you the speed your going and the camera support in the U.K. is very poor, I like having in CarPlay the speed limit and my speed
These days "driving" mode that doesn't have speed limits, even as a user option, is a poor outcome. That is the case in Australia and, from the review above, is also the case in the USA. Even better is an option for a simple alert when over the speed limit by a user-set amount. I have been using a smartphone sat-nav app with these features for 10 years.
For road safety (let alone saving a speeding fine) this is far more important than finding the nearest pizza restaurant.

Ummmmm…that’s exactly what they did which is why their own map data has been (or is soon to be) released in all of those countries.
Sure, for major cities, but I highly doubt that Apple have covered more than that. I would love to be wrong.

Wow…how do people commenting on a thread like this not know this?

Apple has driven every single road in every country that has new Maps (exception is Japan which already had acceptable 3rd party data)

Yes, you are wrong.

One person saying they want speed notification on an app leads you to believe it is important in this country?

Every car has a speedometer, no one has ever given me a good reason why a mapping app needs one.

I don’t need a speedometer on an app to get a warning from an app that I am speeding.

Apple Maps does NOT have a speed limit warning, BUT it does show the correct speed limit in nearly every road it has mapped (assuming a sign was there or government data).

I’ll leave this one as a choice by Apple not to show for Either a cleaner UI or simply as a “not needed” option since they have everything to do it. For me, seeing the speed limit sign with correct speed limit is enough for me. I know exactly how fast I’m going and don’t need an app to tell me I’m speeding…I’m always speeding…

It’s sort of like my waypoint comment above. My guess is 99% of people would rather know how to get to the nearest pizza place.

You have an app that gives you a speed limit warning. If that’s more important to YOU, than use that app. Most of us just want pizza!!

Can’t you look at the road signs? Don’t you know what the general limits are in your country? I would quite like the speed limits on the map also, but let’s not over state its importance by proclaiming ‘road safety’. Drive properly and look at road signs for that.

Not true….whole US is getting all features eventually when iOS 15 is released. Certain cities are getting the added topographical and detail poi updates. San Francisco now on the beta with NYC, L.A., San Diego and Washington DC yet this year.

All streets will have the crosswalk, bike lane and 3D interchange info per their website.
Pure rubbish. To Apple, the “whole US” consists of the Bay Area and select other large metropolitan areas. Perhaps leave that comfortable small cocoon you seem to be living in and join the rest of the world. Then you might learn why Apple Maps is viewed more as a joke than a viable nav system.

Looks nice, doesn't work.

Most features not available in Europe.
No cycle routes
Very poor public transport details. Doesn't even show the only transport (a bus) which goes to my nearby airport, for example.
Driving instructions take little notice of road closures or heavy traffic

Google maps solves all of the above issues for me, so I don't use Apple Maps at all.

I'm not sure why Macrumors continues to say that 'globe view' is new, when it has been around for years....as someone else commented above, you get to globe view by enabling 3D satellite view and zooming out. I don't remember how many years this has been a thing, but it's pretty old and is also available in the Maps application on Mac OS.

If I’m wrong, how come Apple Look Around (“Street view”) does not cover most of the US? Bike directions does not work the same places that I’ve tested. Apple Look Around only covers 20 cities in the US.

Please tell us why Apple have driven all the streets of the US and not made photos and other data available? (My guess is that they have not driven most places, but prove me wrong)

I guess you just can’t understand what goes into creating LookAround.

The USA was first to be mapped and it is thought by some that Apple had to go back to re-do some streets due to changes in the technology.

I’m sure you are going to explain to me how Apple DOES have LookAround in 99% of Canada, Spin, Portugal, etc…

I can’t argue what is a very well known fact. Apple has driven every single street in every country where their own map data has been released. Look Around is different…cycling data is different…transit is different.

It really isn’t that hard to understand for most.

It was never available in map mode. Does anyone read the articles? They even show you the old way versus the new.

Satellite and drawn maps are different.

I guess this is where I ask you to explain anything that was wrong in my post that you quoted?

More detail in Maps is excellent.

"Mark my location" could also be in Control Centre...

It should be simple to name a marked location right-away right there. It isn't. Why?

To all those who defend apple maps, I am wondering if they have actually used them in countries like Spain, Italy, Greece, France, Turkey ,China, UAE because my experience is that they compare nowhere to Google maps. And I am not discussing major cities here. Sure Apple maps work in most european capitals (no proper POI) but pretty much that's it.

Even basic things are a disaster. For example I have a list of saved favorites but in order to access my list, I have to scroll through huge icons of forced Editor's picks that have nothing to do with my interest or places I wanna go.. And I can't even deactivate them ! Why should I have to scroll through the best beaches in the United States, or the Yunque forest! that is being forced among the search bar and my favorites???

And has been stated in these threads a thousand times, who ever disagrees with that? That is why Google, Waze and a dozen other mapping apps are available on iOS.

Btw…people in Spain may disagree moving forward now that they have new Maps. ;)

I tried to use Apple maps recently in Andalusia, Spain.. Went right back to Google maps. 😃

1. Compass directions.
- North, East, South, and West. On one of the pictures above (copied below here) shows the compass direction. Yet none of the other screenshots that show the map has this, why?
The compass only shows when the direction is NOT due north.

This is great, but fire away with your complaints and negativity everyone!
Like all new innovative Apple Maps features, it only work in 3 cities.... and next year they'll change course with a new and improved version in those same 3 cities.... so perpetually apple maps is great when you live in one of 3 places.

Interesting since 5 cities were announced from the start, one of which is t in the US….and that is just for the detailed landmarks, topographical and tree graphics. The rest of new maps is getting all of the road details San Francisco has in the beta today.

Or one might say, it is so simple, why not just got to point A and then when you are done there, ask the phone for directions to point B, etc.

It's one thing if you are planning some really long trip and need to plan things out, but you can still do that. Waypoint planning is one of those things that I swear people complain about simply because Apple does not offer it, but 99% of the time, that is not how people navigate.
Because that is impractical when you are planning a special route. Here’s an example; let’s say you’re out cruising on your motorcycle or out in your convertible with the top down. You’re having fun on the back roads, you have an idea of the route you want to take, but the GPS is constantly fighting with you trying to get you on the interstate.

Waypoints make that super easy.

Then Apple should just add that feature so people have one less thing to complain about. 😂
