I try out Apple Maps a few times a year, hoping that they would have made at least some progress in catching up with Google. So far, it has always been a disappointment. Apple can't even find many well-known addresses, not to mention names of restaurants etc. Maybe it works better in the United States than where I live. I sure hope so.

Waze is still miles better, apple maps doesn’t show you the speed your going and the camera support in the U.K. is very poor, I like having in CarPlay the speed limit and my speed
Why do you need the app to show you the speed you're traveling? Are you really so focused on the app for everything that you can't notice the speedometer in your own car? And what about looking at the road while you're at it?

That's what I hated about using Waze...way too much unnecessary info about accidents, speed, cameras, etc. that only distracts the driver.

I live in the USA, so I’m benefitting from all of Apple’s improvements to Maps, but I still don’t understand why people from other countries that have not been updated are SO upset about it. Like, having Apple Maps is some RIGHT that they are owed since they bought an iPhone.

Not many ever seem to state it, but I’m guessing most of not all complainers on here live in a country that does not have new Maps. Yes, Apple integrates their own Maps into their other apps, but that doesn’t stop anyone from using Google, Waze or a dozen other mapping apps available on the iPhone.

others on here also fail to know how to use Maps properly. Want to go to a destination along your route instead of the preselected restaurants, simply ask Siri.

“Hey Siri, directions to Chick-Fil-A along my route.”

Most of Apple’s “limitations” in Maps are there for safety reasons. Do you really think you should be able to type a restaurant in the search bar while you’re driving? You can do it when you stop or again, just ask Siri.

Happy to have anyone over in the Apple Maps thread pinned to the top of the iOS 15 forum if you want to see what’s new, get some tops, complain about what Maps doesn’t have… ;)

We’re upset because this is yet another feature that’s going to be promoted by Apple but the vast majority of Apples users does not have access to. This makes it a novelty feature that is only held back because Apple don’t want to spend the money to drive though the cities where we live - and guess what, we paid for the same Apple product as you, but we don’t get all the features.

Yeah, in nine countries in the world and not counting. At the pace Apple are rolling them out I will be driving my flip-flops or slippers by the time they reach France. 😋
Italy has few of the newer features. Maps is crippled here and is far behind Google Maps. The US improvements look great, but Apple is very US-centric so it will be years before we see that throughout Europe or globally.

Vast majority? . I think you’re confusing number of people with number of countries.

I’m guessing the the number of users in the USA, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Japan, and soon to be Italy and Australia outnumber the rest of the world using iPhone by a “vast majority”.

iPhones make of nearly half of the phones sold in the USA alone.

Added all this stuff and we still can’t search for something when adding a stop on a route. We’re stuck to only being allowed to go to a gas station or a restaurant. Very frustrating but I guess I’ll just keep using google maps

I literally tell you how to do that above.

Just in San Francisco.

Not true….whole US is getting all features eventually when iOS 15 is released. Certain cities are getting the added topographical and detail poi updates. San Francisco now on the beta with NYC, L.A., San Diego and Washington DC yet this year.

All streets will have the crosswalk, bike lane and 3D interchange info per their website.

So what you’re saying is that Apple will deliver this experience in all of the countries you listed? I’m pretty sure Apple needs to drive their mapping cars down every street and highway in order for all of this to work. And I’m also pretty sure Apple have not done this most places in the countries you listed.

Apple can’t even deliver bike directions most places.

Ummmmm…that’s exactly what they did which is why their own map data has been (or is soon to be) released in all of those countries.

Maps still doesn't have a "north up" feature. It's the one thing that really stops me from using it, other than the reliable reports from WAZE. I hope that they add this, really basic, feature into their IOS 15 version.

This is great, but fire away with your complaints and negativity everyone!
This isn’t great just yet. Great improvement of the current listing but there are needs that should occur:

1. Compass directions.
- North, East, South, and West. On one of the pictures above (copied below here) shows the compass direction. Yet none of the other screenshots that show the map has this, why?

Do you understand just how DUMB digital maps over the last 15yrs on smartphones has deteriated people’s sense of direction?! This isn’t just Apple Maps, but also Google maps as well. Microsoft and many others have had this issue in this time span on their smartphones. I also recall Nokia’s S60 platform - the FIRST smartphone OS to have a map also had this.

So you ask what’s the big deal?
- Order food from Uber Eats or Skip The Dishes or other delivery service app. Regardless of the current OS the delivery person uses ALL don’t know where their going 80% of the time (living in the same city). So They follow …

Turn Left at this road/intersection, turn Right, proceed 1km to street name/intersection. It’s Turn by Turn. The issue is such delivery map systems seems to (Uber/UberEats especially I’ve noticed in Toronto, ON) take THE MOST RIDICULOUS route vs a straight route to my place. I’m less than 5km away from most places I order from (fast at 1-6AM vs transit, no car).

Also If you have specific delivery instructions ’Please deliver between 2 buildings parking lot (or South Entrance) … I kid you NOT … 30 drivers this past 3mths and only 1, yes 1 new where South was!

2. Using VR to help find where to go.
Again this points to my complaint #1 above … N/E/S/W … if people would SEE this on the map it would be MUCH easier, and safer(!) to goto where they need to go.

Turn South on Oakwood and travel 100 metres to arrive at you destination.
Vs
Turn Right (which is relative to where you are. Moreoever holding up your phone to head level and panning around … STUPID! It’s also very obstructive on street corners. I can see teens and adults alike get hit by a cyclist venturing in the street or hopefully not hit by a car because their using VR when they SHOULD be using their eyes. Most importantly VR is useless with headphones and iPhone in your pocket.

Great improvements yes, but MUCH more needs to be done.

Waypoints are a GPS 101 feature. I had a Handspring Visor in 2001 and the springboard GPS I had let me set waypoints. 😂

Or one might say, it is so simple, why not just got to point A and then when you are done there, ask the phone for directions to point B, etc.

It's one thing if you are planning some really long trip and need to plan things out, but you can still do that. Waypoint planning is one of those things that I swear people complain about simply because Apple does not offer it, but 99% of the time, that is not how people navigate.
