Knew better than to upgrade to a .0 release. This is pretty terrible QC. It’s been awhile since I’ve considered another go at an Android phone but if the new pixel phones live up to the hype certainly going to be tempted to switch next time I’m due for a new phone.

Biggest reason I moved my main to Android a couple years back: bugs. Got tired of them. My work phone is an iPhone and I get to see the difference all the time.
I’m keeping my main off of iOS.

I checked the constitution, and it turns out that Apple is not the government.

Also checked the dictionary, and it turns out that Apple isn’t surveilling us.

Also checked the dictionary, and it turns out that reading a technical explanation of the cryptographic system being used, combined with a background in cryptography and international security, and then actually understanding what Apple is doing, is not “naive.”
Must be a knockoff dictionary or maybe you cant read what I said? Never said Apple was the government but that's an interesting take for sure. I am not sure how you know about the second part unless you work for Apple? If so, please get me a shirt from their store in California, please!

It's all right to be educated, it's not a conspiracy if it has been done in the past with other companies, just have to imagine what the future plans are. It's CSAM right now but what about in the future, they already have access to our photos, let's expand that to other services. Remember when apple blocked third parties from tracking us but you can literally go on settings and see Apple does it now and twists the name for ads....

:)

sure wish I could downgrade back to iOS14 at this point. Hoping they release an update sooner than later

A new OS with "several bugs" ?!?!?

Fetch me my fainting couch.

This is unacceptable!!!!!!!!!!!

After having done the entire beta on 15, this released version of 15 feels like it has more issues than most of the betas.
Wel yhe beta (even he public one) is generally deploed to far fewer devices than the release (duh) so less chance of hitting devises with tún avoidable manufacturing flaws, odd combinations of third oarty apps. thir party dongles/bt headsets etc, so it's kind of ubavoidable that you get some unexpected results cropping up, but I agree morte time in beta, but that would have delayed the iphone 13 launch right, not what the pr people want to hear etc

There are so many things to fix each year --- by the time they ever get close to accomplishing it, they force push yet another new major release out and the whole cycle starts again.

It's software suicide.

Why they are doing this to themselves (and the rest of us) is hard to understand.

Nobody wants or needs a brand new macOS/iOS/iPadOS release every single calendar year just because new hardware comes out.

Stretch out the release schedule and work on fixing things!!!

This. THIS.

This year release have been particularly rough. Mac Os is better... but not by much. I am afraid of the Monterey release.

Apple needs to seriously focus in their software QC. For god´s sake, they are Apple!. They used to be the best of the world at this.

Software optimization and user experience. That´s their thing. Or it used to be.

Don´t get me wrong, they are still better than the competition, I am still deep (DEEP), in their ecosystem and their current hardware is second to none, but the software... they need to seriously focus on that.

If necessary, they should abandon the annual OS release schedule. I personally think it's crazy.

If you have already installed iOS 15, how do you downgrade back to iOS 14?

Please share. :)
Sure!

You have to download the IPSW file from Apple for your phone/processor type - which is the file image for the version of iOS for your phone & connect it to your Mac or PC. Disable Findmy too.

Then you have to enter DFU mode - using a byzantine combination of button presses - which puts the phone into a factory reset state. The presses used depend on if your phone is FaceID or touchID.

Then you'll need to install 14.8 onto your phone by uploading the IPSW via Finder or iTunes. Then it's just like setting up a new phone, which you can do from scratch or back-up like usual.

Only the button presses on your phone is the tough part of this - and then it's more down to timing, which is tricky.

My best advice is to Google this as some of the web-pages I got for this were incorrect and I'm afraid that I can't remember which ones worked. Good luck!

There’s a part of me that’s pretty sure Craig Federighi gets paid plenty. He’s just not the perfectionist looking for Steve Jobs’ approval like Scott Forstall. A possible explanation of why Jony Ive was so heavily involved in iOS 7, perhaps? 😒
As many others have said, it's obviously the marketing driven yearly cycle of 'we must have new features to announce at WWDC'.

This then forces them into having just a 3 month or so beta cycle for very complex software and services updates.

They then have to ship by late August, early Sept as the latest iOS is tied into the most important Apple produce release of the year i.e. the new iPhones.

As these features have become more complex - way more complex than the Jobs era - I doubt that any company could ship at high quality in this time frame.

I wish Apple would stop trying to achieve the impossible as they are now shooting themselves - and us - in the foot on an annual basis.

I think often, Apple are far too respectful of the Steve Jobs playbook - forgetting that he could rip things up overnight if he didn't feel it was working anymore.

The whole thing is very puzzling, as I doubt that the whole world is really paying much attention to WWDC - just geeks - so I'm not sure why it's so important to Apple to have this marketing exercise.

The whole world is way more interested in the annual iPhone announcements.

Unfortunately that is not possible if your device came with iOS15. I wish I could go to 14.8 on my iPad mini 6 but I can not.

It is not possible to get every single bug during a beta test. There are also some bugs you have to be willing to live with during updates/deployments.

That said, this is also what happens as a function of everyone working from home. While I am a work from home advocate, going 100% remote has losses in collaboration which we are seeing here. While it was necessary for the pandemic, a post pandemic return to office, even part-time, is kind of necessary to facilitate collaboration and relationship building.

With all due respect, Apple completely messed up the first 3-4 months of iOS 11 and iOS 13 - both times when people were of course in the office.

They were terrible releases - 11 was always sub-optimal for anyone who didn't have an X and 13 only settled down by the time of the 'emoji point version'.

I think that there's something more wrong at Apple than blaming this on enforced WFH due to the pandemic.

And of course, iOS 14 was a pretty good release where 6 months of that was developed in the pandemic & they were launching phone redesigns & 5G too (12 was very good too).

If you have nothing to hide why is CSAM plans an issue... protecting the innocent or mentally challenged is society's responsibility. Download iOS 15 and embrace a company that unlike a lot of commercial bodies is open about the importance of personal privacy... I repeat if you have nothing to hide.. you have nothing to fear! Stop listening to the media and research the facts, CSAM does not allow anyone to view your private images.
In every conversation of this type, there’s always a clueless wonder making the ridiculous “if you have nothing to hide” comment. You’re that guy today.
