What is that faint line under the icons? It shows up on my iPad from time to time, but I don't know what it means.

The design is still terrible though. UI Designers working for a 2.4 TRILLION dollar company, cant design a better battery display with percentage?
Honestly this latest round of hardware marked it highly evident they are being stretched thin and maybe losing a lot of people for whatever reason.

Upgrade to the newest model. It is as simple as that.

Except the iPhone 8 and all earlier phones got it, so it’s obviously not as simple as that.

And nobody would upgrade their phone just to see a battery percentage.

I disagree. Apple is a company that milks every dime from its customers. The latest round of HW is just more proof of that. Apple has plenty of employees.

Good! I was annoyed that this wasn't available on my iPhone 11.

Downloading the beta now. Can't wait for it to install so I can toggle the percentage display off. 😁

Thank god. There isn’t a louder more obnoxious group of people than the few that love their tiny screen phones

...why did they delay this? Did they just not think the screens were big or sharp enough? Because obviously, with this new 16.1 beta, they are...

Also, 16.1 beta already. Two days after iOS 16.0 released. Typical Apple.

Battery percent was not present on iPhones that have ‌Face ID‌ in iOS 15 because of the lack of space on either side of the notch that houses the TrueDepth camera hardware, but Apple's updated iOS 16 design adds the specific battery level to the battery icon, providing a better idea of battery status at a glance.

So I guess they managed to increase the screen size or shrink the notch on existing models? I prefer they shrink the notch. Can't wait to update my XR to find out!! That's the Apple magic we all rave about!

wow. Much wow indeed. No reason why my 13 mini can’t display battery like every other phone. It even has a higher PPI density than the new 14. I thought this was almost as stupid as STILL not letting us arrange our icons the way we want. I’m still astounded that it’s not possible without some kind of janky hack today.

It is? The company I work for doesn't even have offices anymore. We are 100% WFH and we are thriving because everyone is happier. Don't make general nonsense statements.

Is the company you work for Apple? Because otherwise I fail to see how one random company's experience with WFH says anything at all about Apple.

Obviously the only people with the necessary data to figure this out are execs at Apple but all anecdotal evidence suggests that Apple software quality has been getting progressively worse over the last 2ish years, neatly coinciding with the shift to WFH. The fact that Apple execs are insistent that employees get back to the office—even in the face of actual and threatened resignations—strongly suggests to me that they're seeing the same problems and linking them to WFH.

It’s there to show you that you can interact with that space. Pull it down to show the control center :)
