iOS 16.1 Beta 5 ― Bug Fixes, Changes, and Improvements

I think we need to look at it as intended. It's white outlined when the phone is locked on lick screen. Once FaceID unlocks it goes black. I see the reasoning...

There is no reason for this abomination. Why don’t they outline the battery, time, and signal bars with various colored circles while they are at it.

Is Apple ever gonna give us Live Activities back in the TV app? Ridiculous they took it away. I want to keep up with the MLB playoffs today at work, and they still have yet to fix this. A feature they had all over the keynote for the iPhone 14 pros.

From my understanding, the Live Activities only come from the app, so like the MLB app would need to support it. They only allowed the MLB Live Activities for games that were televised by Apple TV+, which is why you probably saw the Live Activities there. For example, when the NBA season starts, it’ll likely be something that has to be supported by the NBA app, and not the Apple TV app, since Apple isn’t streaming any NBA games.

My guess is that Apple signed licenses with all of these leagues giving Apple the limited right to test the feature before launch and then to launch it along with 16.1. Or perhaps upon the conclusion of the Major League baseball season.

No idea whether you guys never actually used 16.0.x but the outline is and has always been very present on my 14PM with a dark background. This isn‘t new to 16.1, I have an identical outline on my device here ever since I got the device.

Are people only just now switching to dark backgrounds? How come people keep reporting the outline as a new „bug“ everywhere when a vanilla launch day device on stable has had it for weeks now.

Apps are loading marginally faster. Most noticeable is the App Store when going into do a manual software update.

I was gonna say. It used to take a sec or two on the last beta. Now it’s better albeit not as instantaneous as before.

I don't think this is true... The initial betas where it was supported I was following games airing on my local regional sports networks.

I suspect that there may be licensing reasons with MLB or something like that as an explanation for why we’re not seeing it. I suspect they will just have to flip a switch on their end and it will be back when 16.1 ships. I don’t see this slipping to next year.

Unless this isn't allowed to cover post season play.

Well when 16.1 comes out you’ll see, it’s not just a faint outline that’s only there once in awhile, it’s there almost all the time, and it’s VERY obtrusive and bright, and even changes colors depending on what it’s being used for.

On the lock screen it’s always there in AOD mode even with a slightly dark background. So if you’re using an oled black wallpaper to save battery there’s this bright hideous outline around the island for NO REASON AT ALL.

Some clueless boomer exec must have thought this was a good idea and forced the designers to do this as nobody with a brain or an inkling of design talent would completely destroy iOS on the pro series phones like this. Not even Android phones come with such hideous and pointless trash like this, Apple is scraping the bottom of the barrel with mistakes like this. The fact that it has not been removed already just proves they are absolutely lost.

Federico Viticci says Stage Manger is still a dumpster fire. I’ll be surprised if it ever gets released.

I can see this outline thing being the next home bar crusade ..it would be nice to know if this was on purpose or a true bug.. if its there on purpose its easier just to move on as Apple still hasn't done anything for the home bar folks...

You can swipe right on the DI to make the DI shrink, which also removes the outline.

Thought they said it would be released with 16.1, which probably means the public release, but that Devs now have access to the API to put it in their apps, which also won't be available (publicly) until 16.1 drops.

So I suspect they pulled their own apps using the feature so as not to be perceived as wielding an undue advantage..

Very true! Hopefully we get some good apps after this beta is over.
