You know what’s absolutely hilarious about this; aside from the fact that the island is one of the most distracting and unintelligent designs Apple has ever done?

The fact that the Island has that gray ring around it like that, makes you instinctively go for it in certain apps with black backgrounds that have similar search bars, like on Reddit I’ve almost tapped the island to search like a dozen times.
You know what’s even more hilarious about this; aside from the fact the DI is awesome, is how much you hate it. Pretty funny how much it infuriates you.

It only shows when dimmed or active. So, no, there isn’t a gray ring in your face constantly.

On a serious note, it’s still in beta. Maybe they’re seeing what users reactions are and the feedback. I’m guessing you aren’t a beta tester. And if you are, there’s an app for that.

Leave some feedback, Pal. Is that the equivalent to your “Buddy”?

👊😬👍

Oh, look, no ring.

should be given as an option but I honestly i'm at a point where I don't have my eyes on it even when there's a full white background. It took me like 10 minutes to get used to the pill.

now when it comes to the pill cutting into videos in 18:9 yeah that's terrible.

Yeah exactly. And I really do not like that. Every phone gets satellite connectivity but only the Pro line gets an entirely reinvented notification system? This is just distasteful to me as the most obvious example yet of Apple withholding something that could easily have gone to everyone just for the sake of the upsell.
I’m not convinced it was a deliberate upsell on Apple’s part. We all know they’ve been having supply chain problems with displays for a while, so perhaps they just couldn’t get enough screens to cover both the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro lineups.

The fact that the iPhone 14 screen is identical to that on the iPhone 13 suggests they may just be using last year’s parts for the iPhone 14.

Remember that the iPhone 12 Pro was supposed to get the 120Hz ProMotion display upgrade, but due to a shortage the entire iPhone 12 lineup shipped with the same screen technology, with the brightness on the 12 slightly reduced. It’s the only time the standard and pro models have had the same screens.

Had Apple been able to stick to its original schedule, we probably would have gotten the AOD on the iPhone 13 Pro, and the Dynamic Island would have possibly been the big change for the iPhone 14 lineup.

We’ll probably never know for sure, but it does seem odd for Apple to split up the user experience this dramatically, and reliable sources indicate the entire iPhone 15 lineup will get the Dynamic Island next year. AOD and 120Hz ProMotion are more likely to remain the exclusive domain of the iPhone Pro, which does seem more in line with how Apple rolls; we’ve already seen those distinctions with the iPad Pro and Apple Watch.

IQ has nothing to do with being good at design, but I guess you just answered my question on that in a roundabout way. I've heard all I need to hear.
Oh dear lord…

IQ has everything to do with design… unless you’re strictly talking about the artist designs. See dynamic Island is a design in engineering. It’s a methodology to see background information displayed while you are on a foreground app. It is the epitome of unintelligent design due to its inherent distractibility.

I need not explain it further, I hope you understand now.

This is the opposite of what I want, lol, what a bizarre step backwards.

Isn't their whole marketing for the "Dynamic Island" centered around it being partially invisible due to UI magic tricks?
No, you understood wrong. The cameras are invisible due to the UI magic tricks aka as Dynamic Island. The Dynamic Island itself has been promoted in every way possible.

I would say people that don’t want to look at it use the dark background, so Apple is essentially ruining it.

It’s not distracting though. That’s actually the thing, people are so excited about it but you forget it even exists after a couple of days.

They are now making a bad situation with this floating notch & made it worse! Who wants this, when you simply want it to st lease blend in??

It is unbelievably distracting. It is the very definition of distraction.

It literally puts a moving waveform at the top of your display when you’re reading static content on the screen. Your peripheral vision picks up on that useless, moronic movement.

When you set a Timer, the morons at Apple even include the seconds countdown so every second you see large movement up there as the large orange numbers change.

Truly and utterly embarrassingly bad design.

Intelligent designers understand that everything in the status bar needs to be static. It needs to NOT draw a user’s attention to it. It needs to be merely background information that’s glanceable if a user thinks about looking there.

The dynamic island implores users to look there because Apple designers are that god damn stupid. It’s like if you had the clock in the status bar just strobing between different colors….lmao.

The people at Apple are probably also amazed at how some MR users here keep defending Apple no matter what they do so they're trying to see how far they can push just for the fun of it. Or, it's just that Apple designers are getting worse and more stupid.
Next iPhone model:

”We’re moving the dynamic island to the center of the display - it’s the best iPhone ever!”

It may look like garbage, but please don’t misunderstand the new 4D chess elegance.

Apple’s beta designers have now created a virtual version of a net around the dynamic Plastic Garbage Island of the Pacific Ocean.

It’s a reminder to recycle and also shows where you are if you’re racing on a track.
