I’ve got 100meg and it’s plenty fast enough. And yeah you could have 1,000,000Mbps, but sites limit the bandwidth you can have.
When we first got Verizon Fios our speed tier was their 150/150 service and now we have their 300/300. We briefly had their gig service more than a year ago when they provided that to all during the teeth of the covid outbreak. But we never noticed any difference in any function that we normally use. The only way we would know that we had been bumped up to the gig connection was when I ran a speed test. Otherwise there was no discernible difference. I didn’t even know they had ended our gig connection putting us back to our standard connection until I was running another speed test. I got the email informing us of having been returned to our contracted service a few days later.

Of course we constantly get emails encouraging us to upgrade to the gig service again, and I even spoke to one of their reps about it when I called in for another issue. I told him we had seen no discernible difference between our current service and the gig connection when we had it. For $40 more a month it would be stupid to upgrade for no benefit. My basic feeling is this is just a gimmick to stick you with a higher rate improving their profits while giving you little to no actual benefit. We don’t have a house full of teenagers streaming and gaming all day eating up potential bandwidth. There is simply just a certain amount that is needed for what most people use - Netflix, streaming videos, and basic web services, etc., all of which can be accommodated at far, far less than 1 gig. Our ios and macOS downloads are very fast and again no less quick than when we had their gig service. It is nice to see those higher numbers when running speed tests though, but that’s an ego thing that I’m not going to pay $40 more a month for.

That’s a really high ping. Try using a 3rd party DNS like Cloudflare’s. Typical pings shouldn’t be more than 50ms or you’re going to notice pages loading slower.
Depends on what server you use for test, I can have 25ms ping but slower speed and so on…

Location Services

After reading a post here, I removed my lockscreen widgets and just put in Calendar.
The always on LS has now stopped.

Had Weather (wide), AQI and Wind.

Coincidence?
hi, dk001..how can you see this is now off the location services? i want to try too ;)

13PM and everything (apps) seems slower. Not just Safari.
Might be just from the big sized update.

JMO

Just updated.

• No slow apps. (IP14)

Just an over all fluid sense of responsive performance. It’s definitely on par with 16.2 if not just that touch quicker.

I’ve been on my phone pretty much all morning. To then pic it up and keep using it feeling like it’s faster, must be a good sign for 16.3

Thats a placebo.

People say the same thing in every update, but the reality is nothing has changed on the performance side. Every animation stutter, lag, hiccup I've experienced since iOS 16.0.2 is still the same

Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services
You can tell which is currently active by the purple arrow.
If you have (at the bottom of the page) Status Bar Icon turned on you can see when it is active.

Mine was on 24/7 and it was always the same two in purple.
With the change, the status icon still shows but intermittently instead of all the time.

I did a couple of hard reboots (3) this morning and no change.
Flying around the Home Screen is swift and smooth. Some apps are taking a few to several seconds to become active and usable.

Proton Mail - 5 seconds once the screen appears
Heckfire - 7 seconds once the screen appears
Mail - 4 seconds or more to update
Safari - 2 to 4 seconds before it initially loads the page.
Telegram - 3+ seconds once the screen appears

It runs great just that a bunch of apps feel like they are bogging.

Another item I ran into is in Messages. Contacts with ringtones that are not default are silent. Working just fine on my iPad, also on beta.

I understand a placebo, but I don’t think so. Well for me works the other way too when you go back to your phone after an update and it feels slower, laggier.

You ether notice these sensitive small adjustments or you don’t, unless it’s a noticeable jump. Just depends I think on the type of person you are really.

Quick example on one end: I just turned on reduce motion and gave my wife’s phone back to her and said “you enjoying your new update to 16.2” she replied “seems the same to me”

That’s quite a big change to your phone animations and it’s completely gone unnoticed.

Wow, yeah
Mail 2 seconds if that.
And safari is instant pretty much.

Bad install?

Today I learned.

🤣😆😂

I wish we could drink a beer. My wife is also completely tech oblivious; she’s using my 13 Pro and has no idea how good she has it.
