I got the buzzing noises even when not in apps that use the camera. That was yesterday night, this morning I turned off camera access for Instagram which has been known to provoke that noise. Right now it is silent but will check again later.
I get a faint hissing when I put my ear to camera WHEN ITS ACTIVE. so that appears to be normal from my internet research: happens to many people and only noticeable when ear right up against camera.

The more concerning issue is that you’re hearing it when instagram is not open.

You do realize that means Instagram is activating camera even when not being used. 🤨. F that app.

So far my theory that x.x.1 releases just cause more harm than good seems to be correct…

I for one will not be risking the camera on my 12 Mini. I browse the web infrequently enough that I’m sure I can survive without the security updates until 16.5.

Abysmal Wi-Fi performance now on 14 PM, it seems to cap out at 1 Mbps for a few seconds before slowly rising to 20. Upload is 2-3 Mbps. This is on a 1 Gbps symmetric fiber connection with no issue on my iPad Pro running 16.4. Very interesting

if I open the camera app, I can hear what is like white noise form the cameras.. not sure if that is a worry
Can confirm my 14 Pro Max is now inhibiting static sounds and clicky sounds when the camera is switching focal lengths / camera lenses.

Default camera app
That’s coil whine. Just for the record I’ve been able to hear it since day one

I hope it’s okay if I ask my question here. I’ve also posted on the iPad forum a few days ago but got no answer and my ‘problem’ is getting worse since I’ve updated to iPadOS 16.4.1. It started on iPadOS 16.4;

I see these gaps in my battery usage stats, do I have to worry? Because my old iPhone 7 had this behaviour as well and apple replaced it under warranty. I live very far from an Apple Store. That’s why I’m trying to find out if this is only a bug in iPadOS? Apple already had to replace this iPad Pro under warranty twice, because the first one couldn’t charge and the second one arrived damaged (damaged package/box and damaged iPad inside). So I really hope this is just a bug and I don’t have to send this one back too?

My iPad is a m2 IPad Pro 11 inch 2022 and I have it since January 17 this year. When the gaps show my iPad is was on and did not reboot.

I never saw this behaviour on my iPad 6th gen and on my iPhone 11.

Anyone else getting hours of backround activity from photos app? Does it check for duplicates every time I plug it in?

Never saw anything like this. Seems you have terrible luck with Apple if you have had this twice on two different devices. I would restore the OS before sending back to Apple (thats the 1st thing they gonna do anyway). Actually even "reset all settings" first and it that doesn't fix it then restore. The reset will keep your data intact and just have to enter wifi, bank cards, and other settings and such back. Not a huge deal tho. Good luck!

With battery at 97% (health at 99%), my 13 Pro Max just plain shut down while playing a song on Apple Music app. 1st time in my life had that happen to me where my phone felt like a cheap android knockoff. There was no event log under diagnostics to pinpoint the issue either. iOS 16.4.1

It didn’t shutdown with Apple Logo. Screen just went pooof!! and I had to hold power button 5 seconds to boot it up.

I am not on any beta.

Upgraded from iOS 15.7, 13 pro max. Everything works as it should battery is on par (thus far) with 15.7. No bugs that I can see.

Only downside was I went from 100% battery health to 98% in the 30 min or so it took to update from iOS 15.7 to 16.4.1.

Edit: Typo

Huh!! It’s weird for me to see so many people posting all of these issues. I’ve got a 14 Pro Max and did a wipe & restore from iCloud after 16.4 came out, and I’ve been mightily impressed with iOS overall, even thru to 16.4.1. I’m not having any hissing issues or glitches or scrolling issues or anything. I’ve got close to 600 apps installed (yeah, I know). I’ve got a bunch of music downloaded for offline listening and have had no issues streaming anything else. No CarPlay issues. Battery has been 👨‍🍳 💋excellent for me. I’m just saying I’d hold off on any “something’gate” references.

Thank you for your response!

I have contacted Apple today via the support app (chat) and then a senior advisor called me back (yes on Easter Sunday they’re apparently open in Europe). The senior advisor said it’s a known bug in iOS 16. So he assumed also in iPadOS 16.

So I hope he’s right about that. I think he might be, because it got worse (as in more gaps in the graph) after updating to 16.4.1. Luckily I’m in Europe and there I have two years warranty.

I will try to reset the settings too, though.

In my thread, in the iPad section, with my question there’s another iPad Pro owner with the same problem. So maybe it’s indeed a software bug. I hope!

Overall it’s a very good build of iOS, just mild issues that still need to be ironed out. The only things I can think of off the top of my head are CarPlay failing to launch occasionally and getting stuck in Spotlight without any way to get back to the Home Screen at times. Both require a 1 minute restart

Glad to hear everything works okay. I'm using a regular 13 with 15.7, it's probably time to (begrudgingly) upgrade to iOS 16 for security purposes...

I DFU restored and set up as new like I do with every major update. Only transferred back my contacts and photos from iCloud.

I am just trying to figure out why I lost 2% in battery health in a half hour that is the only thing bothering me, besides that it is stable and I haven’t come across anything out of the ordinary that I didn’t see on 15.7.

If you have iPhone 13 with original battery then no way its still 100% battery health (unless you just unboxed it). So more likely the update recalibrated/analyzed your battery and it now more accurate and inline. Even 98% would he high I would think. But 100% would not be possible if you have ever used it and charged it since you got it.

Something is very broken with my photos app this update (16.4.1), while my phonenis plugged in and not in use, I think when its checking for duplicates my photos usage gradually increase, its normally at 800mb, twice now Ive seen it at 1gb+ and once it even said 32gb, fixes itself with restart but happens again when plugged in and not in use

I have had it for about 10 months my 13 pro max, Normally finish the day with minimum of 70% battery life left so I am a very light user.

My iPhone 11 I had a couple years ago held on to 100% battery health for 13 months before dropping.
