Still getting the same error more than an hour later. Nothing “rapid” about this. And I’m not sure the slow rollout is the issue, either. If that was the case, why was even offered the update and then still was able to download it?

I was getting the same error, but it just now installed. I don't think it took two minutes to complete the install.

Mine too. Rebooted without warning. Coincidentally, my Mac Pro was knocked off wifi, literally at the same instant, but I don't see any possible way the two events are connected.

No release notes?
I’d wager to guess that this Rapid Security Response was more of a broad “non-beta” test than an actual security response.

There’s been a couple times during the beta process where a RSR brings Safari’s build number up or something, but I’m sure nothing worthy of release notes.

Holy cow this security update 16.4.1(a) screwed up my smart home 🙄

Apple TV, HomePod Mini, iPad 9th gen have issues communicating with each other, only a reboot allows a brief reconnection then cuts off.

Also, Hue Lights “unreachable” on Home Screen on iPad 9th gen and iPhone 13. Hue app works fine though.

btw last update 16.4.1 reactivated automatic updates without my permission, so here I am now with my first world problems.

I’m sure this is only temporary, but I’m getting annoyed AF with this vicious cycle of post update blues.

Considering all of the reports of network issues on macOS, it’s not surprising that a release on their other platforms would have issues, too 😆

Something’s really going on at Apple lately for this shoddy of behavior. I can understand “introducing a bug” during the beta process that might fix something later. But this was a “Rapid Security Response” 😝
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Considering all of the reports of network issues on macOS

What issues specifically? I only ask because I am also having the following new issues:
  • All wifi passwords in iCloud Keychain have vanished. On my iPhone, I have to re-enter wifi passwords at all friends/family houses, etc. I have unlimited cell data so I have no idea when this started but I noticed it about a week ago.
  • On my old Mac Pro (High Sierra), I have to manually re-enter my own wifi password at least once per day for last several days. I see it in the iCloud keychain on my Mac after I manually re-enter it it, but it does not survive.
  • Weirdly, no issues with my own wifi network password on my iPhone despite issues with it on my Mac. Maybe it's saved elsewhere on the phone?
I don't even know where to start with this one... and I cannot afford to dump iCloud Keychain and start over... the loss of wifi passwords is bad enough, I cannot even imagine starting over with all the other logins/passwords.

Ugh... that's something else since I am on latest High Sierra, and don't recall any recent updates.

What's really frustrating is that I have no idea if this is a High Sierra problem, an iCloud Keychain problem, or both. Something is blowing my wifi passwords out of iCloud Keychain, and yet my home wifi password on my iPhone is fine.

Maybe I need to start a new thread.

It’s hard to say how well Apple is going to continue supporting their various services on older version of macOS (is OS X). They’re always going to point you to make sure your device is up to date.

All of my devices are up to date. High Sierra is the latest OS for this hardware. Until they drop iCloud from High Sierra it should not be breaking things.

And why would I need to re-enter my wifi password daily on this machine suddenly, when nothing has been installed or updated recently? Periodically for last several days, I sit down to "no internet" and then notice the wifi is disconnected. When I try to connect I get a password prompt.... none of that is normal behavior.

Correct! Key word there being "should"!

What I was initially getting at, though, is that there seems to be a slew of network related issues with both the beta releases of iOS & macOS, and I've seen reports of other clunky oddball bugs since the RSR release. Who knows what's also broken in the services' backend let alone a very old OS. Wasn't 10.13.6 released towards the end of 2020?? I mean, a lot has changed...

I get what you mean. I was just pointing out that although my iOS and Apple TV have been getting slammed with crap updates lately, my old Mac Pro is still on High Sierra with no recent OS updates. Therefore, I am thinking that Apple is having some iCloud Keychain issues. Unless my Mac Pro is the root cause and somehow suddenly deleting all wifi passwords from iCloud Keychain, which I doubt is even possible.

Right... but now you're just assuming this is the root of the problem.

All I know is that my iCloud Keychain has lost all wifi passwords, which affects all devices using that same iCloud Keychain.
No, what I'm saying is that, because there's oddball issues that are impacting various things on current release, who knows how that would impact older operating systems.

Is it me or ram management has suddenly got so bad? Using a 13 pro and last Saturday and I had most of my apps refresh which is fine but now I noticed they refresh way too often. I was thinking maybe it was a recent update but I've had 16.4.1 since it released and it was good since then but now it's definitely gotten worse.
