FWIW folks I’m on 16.1 on my 14PM and have the white noise camera sound too if I listen closely. Stops when I close the camera app. Guessing it’s always been present?

That’s coil whine. Just for the record I’ve been able to hear it since day one

Coil whine seems logical to me.. my 14 Pro is only a few days old and I never noticed/listened on my old 12 Pro.

Face ID seems a bit un-responsive for me at times on iPhone 13, requiring me to put my passcode in.

I'm not sure if this is actually an issue or related to the screen protector I have on.

My battery life on my 13 Pro was noticeably bad on 16.4 and now it seems back to normal on 16.4.1.

I did have a weird glitch where the home screen search took over my screen and I couldn't get rid of it until I did a force reset.

If you have iPhone 13 with original battery then no way its still 100% battery health (unless you just unboxed it). So more likely the update recalibrated/analyzed your battery and it now more accurate and inline. Even 98% would he high I would think. But 100% would not be possible if you have ever used it and charged it since you got it.
Wrong. My iPhone 13 PM shows 100% battery health in both iOS 16.4.1 and iMazing, and it wasn't just unboxed. I am careful how/when I charge it. When it hits 30% I put it on slow, 5w, charge until it hit 80%.

OK so you are citing "stats" from what Apple is telling you. But the reality is that once a Li-Ion battery has been used ANY it will never be at 100% again. Especially after a year of charging and discharging. Apple cannot alter basic physics with software reporting code. So you can believe I am wrong if you wish, thats ok but incorrect. :)

All I am saying is that two different ‘programs’ could confirm my battery is still at 100%. I understand that it cannot possibly be as good as it was when it left the factory, you are right in that. But we can only go off the results we have, it’s a common yardstick that most users use. Level playing field.

Updated two iPhone13minis, a 12.9” iPadPro 4th Gen, and iPadAir 4th Gen, all went smoothly and are working well. No issues with FaceID (nor TouchID on the iPadAir), no camera buzzing, nothing out of the ordinarily in our normal uses. So far, it’s ok.

This is true. However, iPhone batteries are shipped with higher capacity than the designed capacity. The battery health won't change from 100% until the actual charge capacity is lower than the designed capacity. The actual charge capacity will vary from device to device but the design capacity value is fixed. This is why the battery health will show 100% for a long time before starting to show a decrease.

For example, my 14 Pro had a charge capacity of 3275 mAh when new and its designed capacity is 3200 mAh. The battery health display in the iPhone will continue showing 100% health until the actual charge capacity goes below 3200 mAh. My launch day 14 Pro is still showing 100% and actual capacity is 3215 mAh (read from coconut). So the battery does have degradation but still above the 3200 mAh design capacity. I expect that it will start going below the design capacity in the next month or two.

Face ID is just terrible anymore, it works maybe 30% of the time for me.

A couple months ago my Face ID on iPhone 13 Pro stopped working and it was nearly impossible to even set it up again. I discovered that my issue is some kind of an internal hardware problem. I purchased it brand new and it's never been taken apart.

After reading about Face ID problems being related to hardware, I tried and discovered that a couple of firm facedown taps of the phone onto a wood surface temporarily restores my Face ID. Look at phone, does not unlock. Firmly hit top of phone two or three times onto wood surface. Now look at phone, instantly unlocks... every single time. I may have to do this screen knocking thing 6-12 times a day, which is still more convenient/secure than poking my 6-digit code into screen.

Details:
  • Look at screen and Face ID fails.
  • Lightly hold phone in one hand normally.
  • Point screen face down at a desktop or other hard surface.
  • Hold at a 45 degree angle so top points downward.
  • Firmly tap top edge of phone on surface. Tap, tap, tap...
  • Look at screen and Face ID unlocks.
This is repeatable and hoping it gets me through until Sept.

EDIT: I have a bumper case, so the glass edge of my screen is fully protected from these mild taps.

In addition to the above, sometimes iOS doesn’t accurately report on battery health.

There was a bug in iOS that was reporting the wrong health for iPhone 12 phones until that was fixed in iOS 15.1. My 12 Pro Max was at 100% for, over a year. After the change in iOS, it dropped to 88% over the course of a month and then hasn’t moved for over a year.

Same here. I'm still on 16.3.1 on my iPhone 14 Pro.

Sounds about right. Further evidence that this may be the deal. This describes what you are saying and further explains why there are two different numbers between settings option and this utility reading the analytics file.

Not quite. Apple doesn't report battery levels or battery health in detail in its GUI, those are just general (cheerful) figures. For instance, I have a 13 mini, which after 166 load cycles is still well above even its design capacity, see attached screenshot from coconutBattery Plus. Mainly because I have charged it between 20 and 80 percent only. Such a regime greatly improves battery performance overall. But the fact that the battery's full charge capacity is above its design capacity is just down to luck, not one battery is chemically identical to another. Now, please don't second guess coconutBattery's stats, they are legit (the app uses iOS's own internal measurements).

My launch day 14 Pro Max started at 4500 mAh and is currently at 4361, above the design capacity of 4323. 206 cycles, primarily MagSafe charging, and I don't care much about the battery percentage except for having a hard stop at 20% before I start charging. I don't worry too much about this and after 7 months, I'm still over 100% (relative to design capacity).

I also use a MagSafe and since a few weeks I have started to charge to 100 percent, according to iOS's GUI (with the help of a battery alarm app). But I do not trickle charge after that and I don't charge overnight when I'm sleeping (which is also a safety choice). Instead I use Shortcuts to trigger low power mode on and off over night.

Funny how the folks that use alarms, tasks, and shortcuts to stop charging and dont charge before 20% or after 80% and never overnight or using a wireless charger or only a 5W slow charger seem to also be the same ones who get a new phone every year. :)

I, on the other hand, have a launch day XR, with orig battery, always use a 12W charger every night when go to bed. Couldn't care less if its at 1% or 99% when I plug it in, leave it all night until I get up, use phone however I want and my phone still reports 85% battery health. 🤣

Some users on this forum are far too obsessed with battery health...in fact, it's ridiculous at times, and unhealthy.

Use your device. Enjoy it. If the battery buggers up, it can be replaced. Nobody will care that you have the best iPhone battery health.

Again, wrong. I sold my 3-year-old iPhone 11 PM with 96% battery life. You worry what you want to worry about, and I will worry about what I want to worry about.

Huh? LOL Where did I mention anything about you to indicate I was "worried" about anything you have to say. I am totally not in the least worried about you or your phones or comments for that matter. But if you think I am wrong about my statement about how I use and charge my phone thats your problem. How about responding to posts directed at you and stop worrying about my posts since I am always wrong. Have a great weekend!

16.4 was rock solid on my 14 pro max but now I'm seeing some animation laggynes almost like it 15 FPS. I rebooted and it seems better for now.
