I thought there was usually a month between first and second betas of major releases?

It’s not a month but it’s not always 2 weeks either. For example, last year, Developer Preview 1 was released on June 7. Developer Preview 2 was released on June 24, 17 days later. The first public beta (which if I recall correctly was the same build as DP2) was released early, on June 30 (it was supposed to be “next month” or in July).

Any changes specifically for the iPad mini 6? Maybe layout optimizations? There is plenty space left and right on the home screen….
it's not only about the mini 6.. other iPads also suffer from this on iPadOS 15.. on my iPad Pro 2016 both in horizontal and vertical mode there's simply too much empty space on both sides.. I liked the icon layouts much more in iPadOS 14.. unfortunately in the 16 it looks exactly the same as in 15 from what I have seen on YT.

Has anyone been able to find “Craig Island” on beta one?

Wow, I didn't realize we could use our iPhone as the camera. I thought we had to wait on the clip.

Go to FaceTime, click on Video, then choose your iPhone camera.

Jesus, the camera quality from the MacBook Air M1 to the iPhone 13PM is drastic!

The clip is just to hold the phone. Not needed if you have some other way to hold the phone in place. Apple enhancing its MFI income by kind of downplaying that.

I mean... this feels like a bit of a stretch haha but I agree that it is surprisingly stable for a first beta.

It certainly does not have the feel of something “thrill seekers” should avoid, as Gurman alluded to about 3 weeks ago. If I didn’t have one non-functioning but absolutely critical app on my Phone, I’d have it on all my devices. Hopefully that gets corrected quickly.

I agree.

However, especially with the bad reputation iOS 15 had, understandably, I feel that delivering DB3 instead of DB2 as the first public beta would be a good decision Apple can make. If we assume that Gurman had insider information about the plans to release the third DB as the first PB, it might have been his interpretation that this implies the first two betas will be too unstable.

We all know that everybody can find the developer profiles freely on the web and whoever wants to install the betas asap would find a way to do so. If Apple wanted to prevent people from doing so, they would have come up with a process to check the user's Apple Developer Program membership status before installing each beta. I believe that Apple benefits even from those who install the DB betas sort of "illegally" to say, as these devices collect and send additional device usage information and analytics. By delaying the public beta releases, Apple can still gain the data it needs early on (via the developers and also from the devices of those who have installed the DB betas without actually participating in the ADP programme) while saving themselves from bad publicity for publicly releasing a build that can be too unstable or brick devices. People can also form their opinion on the new releases based on their beta experience as well.

Apple has said that the public beta will be available in July, so we may indeed see DB3 released as PB1. Time will tell.

Agree 100%. And, like last year when Apple seeded PB1 earlier than planned (on June 30, as opposed to July), they could do that again if things look favorable.

There was no information for the length of time for beta 1 for iOS 1 and iOS 2... the average length of beta 1 for iOS 3 - 15 was just over 15 days... shortest was iOS 4 (12 days) and the longest was iOS 10 (22 days).

A lot of decisions regarding UI elements in the OS are decided before the Public Beta hits, usually after everyone submits feedback after b1 & then b2. Once the public beta hits, most of the UI is set. Just fixing and accommodating changes. Apple does benefit, too. Look at last year’s Safari changes “debacle”. Regardless of what side of the fence you’re on with that, a lot of very early user feedback was listened to. This year, the changes aren’t so user facing “destructive” if you will. Just adding on top of what’s already pretty awesome.

(I’m still on 15. Waiting for word of Teams and MS Auth working reliably. But the FOMO got me)

I don’t think there was a beta for “iOS 1” (iPhoneOS), as it just appeared on the original iPhone in June 2007. Nothing to test it on!

I remember the 22 day beta for iOS 10. A lot of people here were melting down.

i just noticed with my motorcycle helmet bluetooth it will glitch ios 16 to have microphone always on even when it’s disabled i’m using the freecom +4
