Not touching this update until a few weeks out. With Apple and their history of bugs, it’s better to wait for the iOS 16.1 release and then update.

The ability to edit and unsend messages is a must-have for me. The number of times the inability to do this has gotten me into trouble is way too many. I'm setting both my phone and pad to install updates automatically and will check to see if 16 has been installed.

I might actually wait until iPadOS 16 is released. Feels kind of weird having two devices with different user experiences.
FWIW, even when iPadOS 16 is released, the user experiences are going to be different anyway since iPadOS is not getting the lock screen updates.

On that topic, why the hell do we need a camera button AND a swipe left for the camera?
Agree with you on this (although I always forget the swipe left action exists - your post actually reminded me).

I'd actually like to be able to change the camera button to launch my preferred camera app (I'm sure I am not the only person to mention this).

Wow, so customizable, and yet I can’t get rid of the flashlight or camera buttons that I constantly activate by accident.

i’m fine with the camera button, would rather have the option to disable the swipe for camera. This is irritating especially on an ipad where I never use the camer.

I have a 13 Pro and for the first time in forever, I am turning the auto update off. I want my phone running as smooth as possible, hope I'm doing the right thing.
I have NEVER (since 2008) had auto update "ON" - and very thankful that was so. at times.

I stopped installing public betas after I noticed the extraordinary battery drain they seemed to provoke.

I mentioned this to a friend that works at Apple and he pointed out that the betas are constantly gathering background data on processes and memory usage which increases the battery drain significantly.

Installing a Public Beta basically means you agree to this data being collected (and presumably sent back to Apple's servers).

What was more concerning was that even installing the final release did not seem to necessarily remove these background processes (but that was probably just my experience).

It all looks very nice, but I can't help but feel if I install this on my SE2 with its god-awful battery, I've basically turned it into a landline. Every new iOS they introduce just saps more and more battery power.

I'm probably waiting for uPadOS 16.2 or 16.3. I no longer trust the first release or two. Since the introduction of the beta tests I'm amazed at how many report "It's as good as a release candidate."

I've never found that to be even remotely true.

Honestly one of the features I’m most looking forward to is that deleted messages will now behave like most other apps, where they go to a deleted folder instead of just disappearing for good. This is something they should have had years ago when messages in iCloud was introduced, so the fact that I’m so excited for it is kinda sad 🤣

When getting a new phone with a new iOS on the way, I wait for my new phone before installing the new iOS.

Am I the only one that does this?

I would strongly advise to wait to upgrade, for sure.

I think it was my 11 that I got. I had upgraded the prior to a 'dot one' update, and when the new one arrived, it had the 'non dot one' update, and that update was tied to the specific model, and I couldn't get them to cooperate to transfer to the new device. I had updated to the dot-one like a couple weeks prior, thinking there wouldn't be a problem doing it. Yeah, no, it was a huge problem. I ended up having to wait over a month until they were both able to be updated to the next update putting them on the same version. I thought it was ridiculous that a x.x.1 update would be THE THING making me gaze at my new iPhone longingly sitting on my desk, unusable. So frustrating...

It's not likely to happen now, but just in case, I never do updates until everything is here. What a mess.

Once bitten... :rolleyes::mad::cool:

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, have Apple formally taken out the on-device CSAM-scanning syping software from iOS 16? Or do they still feel compelled to do blanket warrant-free searching of our property?

News about it has been pretty quiet, so I’m not sure. Or maybe they’re just quietly adding it without our knowledge 🤔

After having used iOS 16 for several weeks now, I think it's a pretty minor – even "meh" – upgrade. Maybe that's good if it means fewer bugs. And it's hard to introduce killer features year after year. But overall, once you spend 2 minutes customizing your first lock screen, there's not much different than iOS 15.
When is the last time Apple actually went on a bug-killing and optimization spree? Snow Leopard? That was, behind the scenes, to get an OS to run on hardware that would become iPhone.

I have the GM version on my 12 Pro and also experiencing this massive battery drain. Feeling like it's draining about ~20% quicker than it did on iOS 15. Was worse on the last beta (around 30% faster).

Apple does usually sort out battery drain fairly fast after public release, so I have my hopes up... even though I have a 14 Pro on order.
“After a public release” is too late.

I feel exactly the same way. The are neat to have on the screen, but give me the option to remove them. It can’t be that difficult.

Mostly it happens when I type
I’ve been complaining about this problem for years, across multiple OS versions on iPhone 6s and my friend’s iPhone 8(?). It came & went, no user influence (clearing/resetting keyboard data did nothing). Right now, on iOS 15’s current version on an iPhone SE3, I’m not experiencing it.

Well I reported 10 bugs, only one is acknowledged in the feedback app and that says unable to diagnose with info provided. Hmmm.

Enjoy all.
I’ve reported so many bugs to Apple via their feedback pages (I refuse to run official betas; the unofficial beta that is public release is bad enough). They’ve fixed almost none of them. That’s across seven years now.

Close Your Rings Without an Apple Watch

However, on my iPhone12mini (iOS16RC), there is no change in the moving ring.
The moving ring remains open.

I unpaired my Apple Watch two years ago,
From that time until now, the moving ring has not changed.🥺
Is that better or worse than my iPhones (was 6s, now SE3) interpreting keyboard activity and scrolling as “steps”? It’s ridiculous that I have to regularly delete BS steps data in Health.

It’s been marginally better since adding an AmazFit Band 5 to my daily life. I’ve managed to put the fitness band above the iPhone for priority of steps data, but that thing is inconsistent on its own, and the Zepp app is loaded with bugs.
