For me it’s because of all the bugs on the new hardware. Especially the stutter when swiping back to the home screen.

I guess 16.0.3 wasn’t ready for this week.
This. It‘s unforgiving that the swipe to home hiccups are still present. Worst iPhone launch I have ever experienced (worse than the famous iPhone 6 cellular and TouchID bricking iOS 8.0.1 that was at least remedied in a day). Has literally ruined my launch period when my new 14 Pro Max stutters along whenever I close an app.

Perfect, I said it for you! Problem solved!

I have enough self-awareness to know that I can be a Karen on that topic. But, sheesh, why risk messing up your phone without knowing what it will take to fix it. And this doesn’t take a computer science degree. Just do a little research online first. I’m pretty sure a Google search for “what should I know/do before putting beta software on a phone” would yield much helpful info. In fact, it does, starting with this one: https://beta.apple.com/sp/betaprogram/faq

Oh wow you guys are so helpful.
I’m sure you never f up in any field in your lives lol

Ok. Here goes.

The Apple Genius was correct. Unless you made an archived backup before you moved onto the beta, you will not be able to restore your phone until 16.1 is released. This is because your phone would have overwritten any backup made while you were in the publicly released version of iOS. If you are on the Developer beta program, you can restore back by downloading the 16.0.2 IPSW file. If you are on the public beta, you would use the backup the 11th FAQ in the Apple URL I provided above advised users to make.

I freely admit to messing up. I just don’t come here asking for information that I plainly should have researched first.
Ditto. I will always admit when I'm wrong, and I will also admit when I'm way over my head. No one likes to admit when they are wrong.

There are downgrade guides out there without data loss, but they usually come with a way worse price (like certain features going insanely buggy).

Shortlist of steps:
1) Download ipsw and shift + update your device in Finder
2) After downgrading, make a backup of your device (that should now be on 16.0.2)
3) Wipe your phone and reinstall the ipsw
4) Restore from backup you obtained in step 2

Used that method for years and the reinstall part is crucial for your device to not be pandoras box (had issues like Apple Music coming up blank or iCloud sync bricking otherwise).
It‘s usually better to just power through until the RC comes (should be in the next 2 weeks).

How do you go back to 0.2 from beta? Ive signed up for beta at the beginning of Sep, then deleted the profile from my phone 2 weeks ago (I’m on beta 16.1) and was told by a Genius Bar guy that I now have to wait until 16.1 will be officially released to be able to restore from backup. I use iCloud backup, so my current back up file is based on 16.1 beta. I can’t get a new phone and restore it for my back up rn. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.
Easy. I did it using restore on iTunes

I just don’t understand getting that far and having no idea. It’s like aimlessly walking into a tropical rainforest with no compass or hair straighteners.

AND on the wrong thread! 😆😂

Thanks for those who took their time and explain, thanks for the sarcasm as well.

From what I’m grasping here my best bet is to wait until 16.1 is officially released and that’s what I’ll do.

Cheers!

You can get a new phone tomorrow, but you’d have to skip through the set up quick, set up as a new phone. Don’t worry with all the details just the basics to get to the Home Screen.

Then Install the beta profile using safari.

Then Install iOS 16.1 public beta, this will match what your old phone and iCloud back up is on.

Once that’s finished, erase all content on your phone - you do this so you get the restore of your back up as an option as you only set up the phone as new at the beginning to save time as that purpose was only to get 16.1 public beta on your phone fast.

Then use your iOS 16.1 back up by selecting that from iCloud when prompted.

You’ll have your new phone working, from your old phones back up, just still on the beta train. But official 16.1 will be out in 3ish weeks, so depends how quickly you want that phone in your hand or just wait it out.

That is what I would do too. You will also have some more iOS 16.1 betas along the way, which could hopefully sort out any issues you have.

All I want is 5G enablement Carrier Update so that this damn iPhone 12 which was pompously announced to be 5G ready can work on 5G networks of India. Bloody hell $200 Androids have working 5G with Gigabit speeds where as all iPhone users in India can't yet latch on 5G network. What a frikking shame Apple !!!

It’s a carrier restriction, not Apple. They can only release the carrier update as per their request.

Basically, blame the carrier, not Apple.

I can’t imagine we’ll see the RC before they announce new hardware, so depending on when that is announced is when we’ll see the RC.
