Any possibility they wait until a week after Ipad release. Like on monday halloween

To release iPadOS 16.1? No. It needs to be ready for three new devices which will probably ship with a slightly earlier version. But if course it all comes down to when the products are announced and available. I think today is now out of the question for a press release as they tend to do those around 8:30am Eastern time.

Oh. No I don’t think they will release them separately. Too many overlaps.
I read it's possible we get the RC next week and the final release the first week in November. It wouldn't align with what Gurman said but a lot of people online are speculating that.

I’ll take Gurman over “a lot of people online”. Gurman had reasons for saying what he did related to Apple’s quarterly earnings release and the timing of previous OS releases relative to that event in earlier years.

In addition, there is this:

Which is still on the Apple website. https://www.apple.com/ipados/ipados-16-preview/

It’s coming

People say RC is not released till press release of new devices because RC contains new device information, while betas do not contain such information.
I wonder how can Apple change the fundamental code in just one beta version - from no information about new devices to all information. How can Apple hide information in 5 betas and then suddenly reveal all in just one beta.

My guess is that they have two builds side by side during the entire process. One that is new device compatible and one that is not. Then once it’s time to release the RC they release the new device build. It’s probably a very small subset of the code.

They did it with AirPods gen 2, Apple Watch Ultra and have done it with other hardware before.
