the imessage search still doesnt work. the display is option is also not there near standby

Some ‌iPhone 15‌ users have been able to search for older messages after transferring their data over from an older ‌iPhone‌. The Messages search feature only works for recent messages, but the update fixes the issue.
Why shouldn't I be able to search my entire message history?

Somewhat off topic, but on a semi-related note, I was planning on buying an iPhone 15 Pro, but something finally snapped in me, and I spat the dummy at Apple, and am about to jump ship from iPhone after nothing but iPhones since the iPhone 4, and am about to buy a Google Pixel 8. I can't honestly say whether or not I will prefer it, or hate it, but I am going to find out.

As a software engineer who most definitely makes full use of the wonderful power features of macOS, for example, the underlying unix system and terminal, I am really looking forward to the power and freedom of Android. I'm also intrigued by the many AI features of the Pixel which leave iPhones for dead.

And no, I have zero desire to leave macOS and my MBP. Nothing comes close.

But iPhones, I've had a fence sitting love/hate relationship with them for a long time.

The somewhat hilarious thing is that the one final nail that broke the camel's coffin, was the slow, and 20+ year old, USB 2.0 standard being foisted onto the base iPhone 15. Hilarious because I was going to get the iPhone 15 Pro, with the faster USB 3. However, it slapped me super hard in the face just how much Apple deliberately hold back their phones, just the right amount to push as many people as possible into forking out for the more expensive models. The absolute audacity to put the 23 year old USB 2.0 standard, instead of the 13 year old USB 3.0 standard, even though the wholesale price difference Apple themselves would pay to put USB 3 instead of USB 2 in the iPhone 15 would be somewhere in the ballpark of $0.01 per phone. It's pure madness, and pure greed. I am sick of it, and am jumping ship to give the Pixel a go.

Wish me luck! I'll be sporadically updating these forums with my extremely honest and blunt experiences with it, the good and the bad.

Um - all that rant and it IS USB 3.0 standard. Have fun with Android though.

Wait. Could you not favorite songs before?

well.....

in previous Apple Music you could hit a Heart on a song, similar to the Heart in Photos that was a FAVORITE...except it was more like a LIKE. Now you get a Star in Music to FAVORITE, and can still tell Siri you LIKE a song.

Seems strange that a Heart in Photos means FAVORITE and a Star in Music means FAVORITE

Automatically adding the songs inside a favourited album or playlist to your library is incredibly annoying and makes the whole thing worthless.

It more has to do with the fact that iPhone 15 uses the older gen CPU that only supports USB 2.0 (because it had only lightning), while the new chip in 15 Pro was designed for USB 3.0 support. At least they did not lower the speed deliberately with just a switch.

Maybe y'all can help me out :)

Does AirDrop over the internet work between an updated iPhone 12 Pro and a MacBook Pro that can only be updated to macOS Ventura 13.x (currently 13.6.1). The issue, of course, isn't with my 12 Pro as that can and has been updated to the latest iOS 17.1. It's my MacBook Pro that cannot be updated to Sonoma.

Anyhow, I'm just curious and would like to test, but I cannot imagine how I can have an AirDrop file large enough to transfer such that after initiation of AirDrop that I ran fast enough to lose WiFi connection, thus testing AirDrop via internet :)

iOS 17.1 fixed my indexing issue within Photos. After updating to iOS 17 the search results within Photos when searching for say 10.26 or Oct 26 or October 26 showed mixed results. It did not find all photos/videos taken on said date which it has worked flawlessly before iOS 17. I am happy to report that iOS 17.1 did resolve this issue for me. I am a happy camper now since I have a large Photos library and heavily rely upon this search functionality. It does frustrate me that it was broke but I'm stoked it is resolved now.

Can anyone confirm if the search by date bug has been fixed in photos?
Yes, it has been resolved. That is the first thing I checked after the update and it works as it did prior to iOS 17.

One of the problems with Apple Music, at least for me, is the failure to recognize some of the songs that I have uploaded to my library via CD's that I own. This seems to happen randomly, as I will listen to some of these songs and then one day, they will no longer be available. Yes, I understand that some of these are out of print, but I bought them, I paid for them, and therefore should be allowed to listen to them. The second problem is that upon subscribing I am all of a sudden hit with multiple copies of songs that I already purchased. Making playlists then consist of the painful task of having to delete these extra items. Lastly, their recommendations are practically useless and never seem to reflect music that I have purchased and downloaded. Lastly, with Apple Music, why does downloading a song onto my phone remove the song from my MacBook? In my opinion, things seemed much better before they decided to make iTunes and Apple Music two separate entities. The above additions to Apple Music are nice, but are relatively useless until they fix these underlying issues.

Don't care. No one asked.

So here’s something I have run into. Since the 17.1 update, when I create playlists in Apple Music, it used to default to album artwork as the cover photo for the playlist, but now it doesn’t. I don’t even see an option for adding album art like it used to be. The art is still there on my older playlists, but on any new ones that I create, It’s not. I am attaching a screenshot of what I see when I edit the new playlists. as you can see, there’s no option for album art as a cover photo.
I posted a similar issue above. Once you change from the original/default artwork for a playlist, there doesn't seem a way to go back to the original. Not super happy about that, as I was just testing the new feature, and don't like it, and want to go back to the original playlist artwork (which was a collage of the actual album covers within the playlist). I don't see a way to go back now, so I'm stuck with only the bland new choices.

I may be wrong but the chip being used in the non pro iPhones is last years chip, which does not have a USB controller capable of USB 3 speeds. It is integrated into the chip and cannot be changed. I would imagine that next year all iPhones will have USB 3 speeds as at the very least they will get this years pro chip which has the USB 3 controller integrated in the chip.

Not being a naysayer for your choice, just trying to understand the justification. Try Android, if your experience is awesome, that is fantastic, if not - Use that return policy, go with the pro model this year or wait a year and see where this lands.

The A14 in the iPad Air supported USB 3 5Gbit/sec. The A16 in the iPhone 15 will also have a USB 3 controller.

OP Said he was going to buy a 15 Pro. The Pro series IS USB 3 with USB-C. Details........
Which he literally stated: “Hilarious because I was going to get the iPhone 15 Pro, with the faster USB 3. “. But was so annoyed by the fact that the 15 got usb2, he bought an Android. Details…But yeah, let’s defend Apple using old usb2 on an almost 1000 euro phone in 2023.

Ah - when I was confirming the model, did so on the top sentence (yes I read his whole comment initially). I'll defend Apple, though, on using USB2 on anything today. They key question for technology is "purpose?" It's 2023, if ALL I'm planning on doing is scrolling the web, email, etc. why do I need USB2? Why do I need the best graphics card in my PC? Why do I need 32 Gb RAM? All of which are available for PCs/Laptops today. If USB2 meets the need, which on the 15 it probably does, who cares? The Pro line needs it if you want to do the cool video recording you can do with a USB3 cable and SSD. There's a use case. As for cost - there are other things that make up the cost. Consider, if the OP is right and the cost difference for the part is negligible, the design for the new chip may not be.

If all you want to do is bash Apple, why are you here?

Don’t get me wrong, they make fantastic products: my iPhone 13 mini (would have liked usbc on it though…) and 14 mbp M1pro are fantastic. Why is pointing out that Apple uses 23 year old usb2 speeds on their phone bashing? Lets say you want to transfer stuff from your phone (photos videos etc) you have to do this at usb2 speeds. In 2023. For a 1000 euro phone. That is Apple trolling loyal fans.
