Did anyone get this to work in a BMW? The article mentions them specifically. I have a 2023 X3, which has the dual screens. I just finished the 11/2023.50 update for iDrive 7, but it doesn't seem to work.
So I have installed 17.4 beta into my 2022 X5 40d (uk model) as I was tempted to test if there are any extra features added. It's looks exactly the same as before the update. Pictures from today. You can see map on the central display and turn directions on the control display and HUD. Was hoping for more being honest especially after the car software update (11/2023.50)

HUD is a killer feature, you can brighten and dim it and there is a rotate function that will leave you scratching your head.... this has gotten me thinking to try Apple Maps since I never used it and on my BMW and Mini, the missing functionality of CarPlay has been no HUD for me. The visible feature has been that it's a bit crap and nails the battery.
HUD is the only reason I switched to Apple Maps for driving) I was using google, and just figured CarPlay wasn't compatible with by '21 X3, until I was riding with a friend of mine and she seemed to know where she was going all too well, while her infotainment was displaying music... That's how I found out)))

I’d love to have this but I have an older 2020 Mercedes and I doubt Mercedes is going to implement this.
Ha.
I have a 2021 A class, it never came with wireless CarPlay, but when Mercedes unveiled the current A class in 2017, they said the MBUX it would have would be able to receive updates such as that over the air.
They unveiled a facelifted version of the A Class last year, and that came with wireless CarPlay, the non-facelifted models will not receive it.
Even the new C class won’t receive the new version of CarPlay.

Yea I thought the fact that BMW just released a big software update meant that it would enable Apple maps in the display. The article specifically mentioned BMW, and the functionality would have to apply to iDrive 7 cars since iDrive 8 is running in the cars with the one giant screen (🤢), it should work in my car. The display can definitely do it, it shows 3D navigation for with the built-in Nav. Perhaps, like you said, it requires another update from BMW or perhaps it'll just work in the final 17.4.
I think iDrive 8 is treated as two different screens that just look like one big screen. As an iD7 owner I doubt we’ll get an update to include this. :(

You’re probably right. Updated to the RC and still no Nav support in the driver dash. Bummer

Yeah I also couldn't wait to update to 17.4 only to find out nothing changed. It seems that only iDrive 8 gets the full map in the instrument cluster and iDrive 7 only keeps turn by turn directions in the IC and HUD.

Especially if you have a HUD the directions in the IC don't make much sense because it shows the exact same information twice. That's why I was hoping to get more data in the IC.... ah well, maybe in a future iDrive update, but I don't expect it.

At least you get turn by turn. VW and Audi couldn't even be bothered to give us that.
